Haunted Ireland Dates: September 25 -October - 3, 2019 Duration: 10 Days/ 9 Nights Start Dublin - End Dublin Discover the many wonders that Ireland has to offer, packed with features that are sure to fill your days with fun, your heart with song and your mind with memories for years to come. We will journey through Ireland at a leisurely pace and see the popular sights and some not seen by many tourists. Day 1 Dublin Welcome to Ireland! On arrival into Dublin Airport, you will be met and transfered to the hotel. You will start the day with a city tour of Ireland s capital city, Dublin. Originally founded by Vikings over 1,000 years ago, you will discover the city s charms, see the elegant Georgian townhouses with brightly-painted doors, the River Liffey, O Connell Street, St Patrick s Cathedral, the Guinness Storehouse and much more. Following this your spooktacular experience will begin with a visit to the Hellfire Club. Hellfire Club This lonely creepy hunting lodge in the Dublin Mountains was the site of a satanic club whose members dressed as Satan, drank whiskey and butter from a caldron and may have eaten a servant girl alive. It was founded in 1735 by Richard Parsons, the ridiculously wealthy first Earl of Rosse and the first Grand Master of the Irish Freemasons, who gained a reputation as a sorcerer dabbling in black magic, using ancient Dionysian scrolls looted from the Great Library of Alexandria in This later became the Hell-Fire Club, where it is said that the devil himself has made appearances. Guinness Storehouse Afterwards, you will visit the Guinness Storehouse and enjoy a complimentary pint of Guinness in the Gravity Bar which enjoys panoramic views of the City. Take this evening to explore the city on your own.
Day 2 Dublin After breakfast, you will explore Dublin City some more using the Hop On Hop Off Sightseeing bus as your mode of transport between the attractions. You will visit to St Patrick s Cathedral. St Patrick s Cathedral The ghost of a black Newfoundland dog has often been seen sitting at the base of a life-sized marble statue of Captain John Boyd in the Cathedral, and laying on his master s grave outside. The dog chose to starve to death at the grave rather than leave his master, after one of the largest funeral corteges ever seen in Dublin. In 1861, Captain Boyd, accompanied everywhere by his dog at his heels, became a hero when he organised the attempted rescue of more than 135 ships and their crews wrecked between Howth and Wicklow heads during a storm. Dún Laoghaire, then Kingstown, was a scene of carnage with bodies and wreckage everywhere, yet Boyd lashed himself to his crew and went to sea in a futile attempt to save lives and was drowned with his men. The Gravediggers Tour This evening take a spooky trip through Dublin on this unique 2-hour bus tour experience. Be spirited into a world of felons and phantoms as you pass by Dublin Castle, Christ Church, and hear the stories of Cork Hill en route to St Audeons, Kilmainham Jail and Bullys Acre. Accommodation: 3* Central Hotel, Dublin 2 nights Day 3 Cork This morning you will depart for Cork. Enroute you will visit to the Rock of Cashel. Rock of Cashel The impressive Rock of Cashel looms up in front of you as you approach the town. A spectacular group of Medieval buildings set on an outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale including the 12th century round tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral. This cathedral-fortress dates to the time of St. Patrick when he used the shamrock as the symbol of the Holy Trinity as he converted the King of Munster to Christianity. Blarney Castle Visit to Blarney where Blarney Castle, a 15th century McCarthy Castle, is legend. You will enjoy a stroll through the estate to the castle and then climb to the top and kiss the Blarney Stone. It is said that you will obtain the gift of eloquent speech by kissing the stone, otherwise known as The Gift of the Gab!. Alternatively, head across Blarney square and stop at the Muskerry Arms Bar, where you re guaranteed to get a traditional Irish meal and a chat with the locals. You will overnight in Cork.
Day 4 Cork Belvelly Castle Those who have seen the apparition of poor vain Lady Margaret one of several ghosts that haunt the tower house disagree over whether she has a face. In the 17th century, Lady Margaret Hodnett was something of a Jezebel with quite a number of suitors and an extensive collection of mirrors. Tired of being kept dangling, one of her men, Clon de Courcy, decided to starve her and her family into submission. After a year of this, the Hodnetts surrendered, but Lady Margaret had lost her beauty and was found surrounded by unburied corpses and skeletal beings. Rejected then by Clon, she smashed all her mirrors and to this day is seen wandering about the castle, a dark misty sphere around her shoulders, constantly rubbing at patches of the wall until they gleam like mirrors. Cobh Continue to the unique port town of Cobh, known from 1850 until the late 1920 s as Queenstown. Situated in one of the world s finest natural harbours, you will see a view of coloured houses which dot the landscape. You will learn of the origins, history and legacy of Cobh. Cobh is famous as the port of departure for over two million people who emigrated from Ireland in the century after the Irish famine of Cobh was also the last port of call of the Titanic on its maiden voyage in 1912 and the port where many of the victims and survivors from the Lusitania tragedy were brought ashore. Cobh s history tells a fantastic story which is emulated by the architecture of the brightly colored buildings and the many monuments to emigrants and maritime tragedies. Take some time to relax on the docks and take in the scenery. Optional Add-On: Midleton Distillery Accommodation: 4* Hotel, Carrigaline, Cork 2 nights Day 5 Killarney Today you will tour through the scenic West Cork countryside as you travel the very picturesque heritage town of Kenmare. The town offers a lovely choice of charming shops, chic spas, cosy cafes and friendly pubs and restaurants. Tour north through Moll s Gap to enjoy the Short Ring of Kerry, and stop at Ladies View for a panoramic view over the Lakes of Killarney and Killarney town. Enjoy the abundance of pubs and restaurants this evening in Killarney town. The Danny Mann is usually a great pub for traditional Irish music. Accommodation: 3* Central Hotel, Killarney 1 night
Day 6 Limerick Depart Killarney and you will travel towards Limerick. The Abbey of the Black Hag Hidden in a secluded valley southeast of Shanagolden, are the remains of a medieval convent where the prioress, a lady of the FitzGeralds from Shanid Castle, terrified the local population with her use of the black arts and sexual practices. The sacristy where she is buried is called Black Hag s Cell after the blackness of her face when she died. Other reported ghosts include the Countess of Desmond who was buried alive in the Abbey, a mistake that came to light when her menacing ghostly figure prompted an investigation of her makeshift grave, where her finger bones were found to be worn out and ragged from clawing. Today her screams are heard throughout the ruins. Bunratty Folk Park Next visit Bunratty Folk Park, a living reconstruction of the homes and environment of Ireland of over a century ago. Roam through the park and see the rural farmhouses, village shops and streets which have been recreated and furnished to a time that once was. Visit Bunratty Woollen Shop for your last chance to pick up some gifts. Afterwards you might like to visit Durty Nelly s traditional Irish pub for refreshments. Bunratty Medieval Banquet Join the Earl of Thomond for a glorious banquet at this majestic 15th century Bunratty Castle. The Earl s Butler welcomes guests from the four corners of the world toasting an era of great Irish taste with excellent food, fine wine and honey mead. Accommodation: 3* Central Hotel, Limerick 1 night Day 7 Galway Depart Limerick and travel to Galway. En-route you will visit to the Cliffs of Moher Cliffs of Moher The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions and are a designated UNESCO Geo Park. The Cliffs are 695 ft high at the highest point and range for 5 miles over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare. Tour on past the cliffs and visit the seaside village of Doolin. The Home of Traditional Irish Music. Set against the rugged Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by a spectacular bare limestone landscape, Doolin is a place of breathtaking beauty. Next pass through Ballyvaughan, an enchanting picturesque village on the West Atlantic Coast of Ireland. View Dungaire Castle as you tour through Kinvara village and on to Galway City for an evening at your leisure. Galway Ghost Ship Option There will be ghosts by the coast this weekend as a spooky ship docks at the Claddagh Quay over Halloween. The Galway Bay Ghost Ship is calling on brave trick-or-treaters to have their imagination ignited by the haunted fishing trawler on the scariest night of the year. The Bonny Roy (the Claddagh culture ship), which was built from oak in 1945, will emerge from history on 31 October to display a powerful image from a mystical after world, where kids and adults alike can visit the ship to get a sense of Halloween and the ghosts of this historical old fishing trawler. The ghost ship will be viewable all day, with a seanachai recounting scary stories at 5.30pm. Kids are invited to arrive dressed up in their Halloween costumes and will also be invited to trick-or-treat at The Ghost Ship before they make their rounds that evening. Carnevil Carnevil is the West Of Ireland s first scare attraction, housed in the haunted Printing Press of the Connacht Tribune, where, over 150 years ago, a seemingly innocent travelling carnival came to the city, only to leave its citizens so scarred and terrified, that all memories of it have been stricken from official records, never to be spoken of again. Until now
Galway Enjoy exploring Galway city and view Eyre Square, Spanish Arch, the Claddagh District and Galway Cathedral, built on an island in the River Corrib on the site of an old prison. Explore the pedestrianized streets of this vibrant city. Accommodation: 3* Central Hotel, Galway 2 nights Day 8 Connemara Travel through the Connemara region which is known for its mountains, the Twelve Bens and the beauty of the landscape with its changing colours. You will see the Connemara Marble Factory just outside Moycullen and then The Quiet Man bridge outside Oughterard. Enjoy the breathtaking views as you travel through the Maam Valley in the shadow of the Maamturk Mountains. Continue to Clifden where you will explore the Sky Road Loop then tour through Letterfrack before arriving at the picturesque Kylemore Abbey. Kylemore Abbey Kylemore Abbey was founded by the Benedictines and is now a private school for girls. Their Victorian Gardens are spectacular. Nearby is Connemara National Park which covers some 7000 acres of mountains, bogs, heaths and grasslands, with wildlife and scenic walking trails. Afterwards you will have the option to continue touring to the picturesque town on Leenane at the top of the Killary fjord where you will enjoy wonderful views of the beautiful landscape before returning to Galway to enjoy your evening. Accommodation: 4* Central Hotel, Galway 2 nights Day 9 Dublin Spend the morning exploring Galway before departing for Dublin. En-route, visit to Clonmacnoise. Clonmacnoise An Early Christian site founded by St. Ciarán in the mid-6th century on the eastern bank of the River Shannon. The site includes the ruins of a cathedral, seven churches (10th-13th century), two round towers, three high crosses and the largest collection of Early Christian grave slabs in Western Europe. The original high crosses and a selection of grave slabs are on display in the visitor centre. Food Folklore & Fairies This evening enjoy Food Folklore & Fairies at the Brazen Head Pub, the oldest pub in Dublin and listen to the magical tales of Irish Folklore which our ancestors shared when they gathered around the fire at night. Dublin s oldest pub provides a warm welcome and cosy setting as you relax into our rich culture of storytelling and folklore with a candlelit traditional Irish dinner and Irish music. You will leave this unique evening with a deeper understanding of Irish culture and the Irish landscape bringing the stories of Ireland with you on your journey. Accommodation: 3* Central Hotel, Dublin 1 night Day 10 Dublin Today you will be transferred to the airport. Fly home with memories that will last a lifetime
