2 Kiev T here are cities that symbolise a nation and Kiev is one of them. Kiev is the soul of Ukraine, playing a key part its past, present and future. A handsome city, Kiev offers parks, boulevards and gardens, as well as many historic sites. For almost 300 years Kiev was the centre of Kyivan Rus, a mighty Eastern Slavic state whose territory spread from the Western Buh to the Volga, from the Black Sea to the Baltic. Kiev is friendly and dynamic, a great introduction to the colourful and diverse traditions of Ukraine, and September is the perfect month to visit this warm-hearted country. Our journey takes us along the Dnieper River to some fascinating sites. At Zaporizhzhya, we experience a taste of a Cossack past, with a dramatic display of skilled horsemanship. We will also visit the little known and scenic Dnieper Delta and the settlement of Vilkovo, a myriad of waterways and backwaters where locals use gondola style boats as part of their daily life. A real highlight of this voyage will be our time in Odessa, well known as a vibrant Black Sea resort, and a remarkable city founded in 1794 by Catherine the Great. Here we will have the chance to explore the city s many churches and spend an evening at the beautiful Opera House. We then continue along the Danube River into Romania where we will take a half day to visit the ancient coastal city of Constanta. We are delighted to include Ukraine in our cruise portfolio and this journey promises a rich tapestry of culture and history, with a heartfelt welcome along the way. If you wish to extend your holiday time, we are offering a five night extension in the beautiful Romanian region of Transylvania, during which you will travel through some of the last untouched and least travelled areas of Europe. 3 Independence Square, Kiev Odessa Opera House THE ITINERARY Day 1 London to Kiev, Ukraine. Fly by scheduled flight from London to Kiev and transfer to the MS Dnieper Princess for embarkation. Join your fellow travellers this evening for the Welcome Cocktail and Dinner. Statue, Kiev Day 2 Kiev. This morning enjoy a guided tour of this vibrant and friendly capital city. Our visit includes the old city, located on seven hills on the right bank of the mighty Dnieper. We will also see St Sophia Cathedral, erected in 1037 by unknown architects in Russian- Byzantine style to commemorate the victory of King Yaroslav the Wise over the Petcheneg tribes. The cathedral contains a unique collection of mosaics composed of smalt of 177 different colours and shades, and frescoes on religious and secular themes. Return to the ship for lunch and this afternoon is free to explore Kiev at leisure, or alternatively depart on an optional tour to see the Open Air Museum. The museum was founded in 1960 and consists of more than 200 buildings and constructions brought from different parts of Ukraine and re-built here. This evening there will be opportunity to enjoy an optional Kiev by Night boat trip, including a folkloric show. Day 3 Kiev. After breakfast, depart for a trip to the wonderful Kyiv Cave Monastery, set on 28 hectares of grassy hills above the Dnieper River, the monastery s cluster of gold-domed churches is a feast for the eyes, and its hoard of Scythian gold rivals that of the Hermitage in St Petersburg, whilst the underground labyrinths are home to mysterious mummified monks. In 1051 St Anthony of Lyubech and his disciple St Theodosius journeyed from Mount Athos in Greece and took up residence here. Return to the ship for lunch and this afternoon depart for a rousing performance by the Ukrainian National Male Choir, an unforgettable experience. The choir performs an acapella of the best masterpieces of Ukrainian sacred music. Sail this evening. Day 4 Cruising. Today you will have a chance to relax and enjoy a day of cruising as we head towards Zaporizhzhya. Whilst sailing the ship will offer a Ukrainian national day, giving you the opportunity to experience Ukrainian cuisine as well as language lessons. Day 5 Zaporizhzhya. This morning we arrive in the town of Zaporizhzhya. Situated on the lower Dnieper, at the confluence of Lenin Lake and the Kakhovka Sea, Zaporizhzhya is an historic and important Cossack city with beautiful river vistas, and a place of pilgrimage for thousands of Ukrainians who visit nearby Khortitsa Island. Our morning city tour will include the small but interesting Museum of the Cossacks and later this afternoon we will attend a Cossack horse show, an exhilarating demonstration of Cossack horseriding, sword and whip fighting, gun shooting and dancing. Return to the ship and sail overnight to Kherson. Day 6 Kherson & Dnieper Delta. Arrive this morning into Kherson, a city with a past dating back to the ancient Greeks who were believed to have had a colony in the immediate area named Chersonesos Taurica. From here we will take a boat trip to the beautiful Dnieper Delta with a stop along the way to see a traditional fishing village. Return to the ship and sail in the afternoon and overnight to Odessa. Day 7 Odessa. After breakfast this morning depart for a tour of this elegant city, the gem of the Black Sea. Founded by Catherine the Great in 1794, following the Russian victory over the Turks, Odessa today is a busy port and popular resort. One of its most famous features is the Potemkin Steps which rise to a height of almost 500 feet from the sea to the upper town. During our tour we will stroll along the famous Promenade and see the acoustically perfect Opera House which is one of the most impressive buildings in Europe. Return to the ship for lunch and this afternoon is free to explore at leisure or join an optional tour to the Fine Arts Museum. This evening there will be an optional performance of ballet or music at the Opera House (subject to schedules and availability). Dnieper River Day 8 Odessa. Enjoy a full day at leisure for independent sightseeing or shopping in this dynamic resort. There will also be two optional tours available, firstly, a tour of the Churches of Odessa, a chance to visit some of the many historic and beautiful churches of this city. There will also be an optional trip by coach to the ancient city of Belgorod-Dnestrovski, located about an hour from Odessa in the historic region of Bessarbia. The story of the city began at the end of the 6th century B.C when people from the Greek city of Miletus founded the town Ofiussa- Tyre on the banks of the Dniester estuary. The Medieval fortress Akkerman standing on the bank of the Dniester estuary is one of the largest and best preserved in Ukraine. Return to the ship and sail in the evening towards Vilkovo. Day 9 Vilkovo & the Danube Delta. Arrive this morning in the unique town of Vilkovo, located on the border of Ukraine and Romania at the confluence of the Danube and the Black Sea. Known as the

4 Constanta TRANSYLVANIA PRE / POST-CRUISE EXTENSION 13 th to 18 th September* & 18 th to 23 rd September 2018 Danube Delta Transylvania is located in central Romania, a region of exquisite countryside surrounded by the arc of the dramatic Carpathian mountain chain and is home to some of Europe s best-preserved Medieval towns. We begin our five night tour in Bucharest, where we will visit the massive, communist-era Parliament Palace, Old Bucharest in the nearby historic Lipscani district and the mysterious Snagov Monastery situated north of Bucharest on an island in the middle of Snagov Lake. We also encounter stunning castles such as Bran, near Brasov a Gothic fairy-tale structure associated with 15th century Walachian Prince Vlad Tepes, the fairytale Peles Castle, and the dramatic citadel at Rasnov. Our final days are devoted to exploring enchanting Sighisoara and Sibiu, with its cobblestone streets and pastel-coloured houses. Ukrainian Venice, Vilkovo is a picturesque, cosy settlement with a myriad of waterways that take up almost half the town and where the local transport is more often than not a gondola-style boat. The area is made up of dozens of man-made islands, formed out of silt and clay, and surrounded by fabulously beautiful gulfs and backwaters. Also known as the town of fishermen and winemakers, the latter produce a delicious novak wine. We will enjoy a morning guided tour and this afternoon there will be a boat trip to the Danube Delta, one of the most important wetlands left in Europe. Day 10 Izmail. Arrive this morning into the historic port of Izmail, situated on a high bluff overlooking the Danube and strategically located to guard and control the upper reaches of the Kilia branch of the Danube an area once known as Bessarabia. After breakfast join a city tour to include a visit to the Diorama Museum. Sail in the early afternoon and cruise overnight. This morning we will continue our cruise along the eastern Danube arriving into Fetesti in the early afternoon. From here we join a half day excursion to nearby Constanta, a popular resort city with a colourful history dating back to ancient Greek and Roman times. Your tour includes a visit to the Archaeology Museum and the Peter & Paul Orthodox church. After some free time to walk along the popular promenade and marina, return to the ship and overnight in Fetesi. Day 12 Bucharest to London. After breakfast today we disembark and transfer to Bucharest (approx. 3 hours) for our return flight to London. For 2017 departures only we are offering a three night Bucharest extension. Full itinerary can be viewed at THE ITINERARY Day 1 Fetesti to Bucharest. Disembark the ship in Fetesti and transfer to Bucharest (approx. 2 hours). On arrival enjoy a city tour and lunch at the Phoenicia Restaurant before transferring to the hotel for our two night stay. Day 2 Bucharest. After breakfast at the hotel we drive to Snagov Monastery. This monastery was founded in 1408 by Mircea the Elder, Vlad Dracul s grandfather. Vlad, also known as Vlad Tepes is the historical character on whom Bram Stoker s book Dracula is based and is said to be buried here by the monks in Continue on to Mogosoaia Palace, built in the 17th century in the Romanian Renaissance style. Return to the city for a late lunch in Carul cu Bere, Bucharest s oldest beer house, with its colourful Belle Epoque interior, stained-glass windows and classic Romanian fare. Later we enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town and the remainder of the evening will be at leisure. Day 3 Bucharest-Sinaia-Azuga- Rasnov. After breakfast we depart Bucharest for Sinaia to see the fairy-tale Peles Castle, built by King Carol I in the 19th century. We then continue on to Azuga in Prahova Valley, home of the Royal Cellar which is the wine supplier for the Royal family, where we will stop at a local vineyard for lunch and enjoy some wine tasting. Our final visit today will be to Rasnov Citadel, a historic monument and landmark in Romania. Please note that the entrance to the citadel is a 15 minute uphill walk for those who wish to visit inside. We continue onto Brasov for our overnight stay and dinner at the hotel. Day 4 Brasov-Bran-Sighisoara. After breakfast join a morning city tour of Brasov including the City Hall Square, St Nicholas Church and the Old City. After lunch in a local restaurant we will visit Bran to see the world famous Dracula s Castle, built as a fortress in 1212 by the Knights of the Teutonic Order. Vlad Tepes, better known as Vlad the Impaler, used the castle as headquarters for his incursions into Transylvania. Continue on to Sighisoara for an overnight stay. Day 5 Sighisoara-Sibiu. After breakfast join a morning walking tour of Sighisoara including the Old Town with its cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches. Also visit the Clock Tower known as the Council Tower, built in the second half of the 14th century. Enjoy lunch in Dracula s House restaurant. This afternoon we drive onto the colourful city of Sibiu and have a guided walking tour on arrival. Check in to our hotel for an overnight stay and dinner. Day 6 Sibiu to London. After breakfast at the hotel transfer to the airport for our scheduled indirect flight to London. *Please note that the 13th September departure is a pre-cruise extension with arrival from London on day 1 and embarkation on day 6. 5 Sky Bar MS DNIEPER PRINCESS F or this culturally rich tour we have taken an allocation of cabins aboard the mixed-nationality MS Dnieper Princess which accommodates a maximum of 230 passengers. Built in 1976 and refurbished in 2016, this comfortable and well run vessel is ideal for exploring the Dnieper River. YOUR CABIN All cabins are outside facing and have a window which can be opened. Standard cabins measure from 9 to 10 square metres, Deluxe cabins measure from 15 to 18 square metres and Single cabins measure 7 square metres. They are equipped with private en-suite facilities, individual climate control, radio and hairdryer. Deluxe cabins also have a flat screen TV. Standard twin cabins are small but comfortable whilst Deluxe cabins are larger in size and offer a higher level of comfort. Standard cabins have fixed twin beds whilst the Deluxe cabins have twin beds that can be configured in the continental style (pushed together) to make a double. YOUR SPACE Spread over three decks, the ship s public spaces include two pleasant restaurants which accommodate guests in one sitting. There will be a mix of nationalities on board, mostly from Germany and Norway, and seating in the dining rooms is open at breakfast, with fixed seating at lunch and dinner. The Sky Lounge/Bar offers plenty of space for relaxing and socializing and large windows for you to experience unforgettable views as you enjoy coffee, tea or a light snack. The vessel also has a gift shop and a hairdresser. In favourable weather the Sun Deck offers an ample space to sit and read or watch the world go by as you sail along the river.

The food reflects the flavours of the region, with specialty dishes being served and the onboard team taking great pride in producing flavourful dishes. Breakfast is a buffet arrangement whilst lunch and dinner are a served affair. Vegetarian dishes are available and other special dietary needs can be met with advance notice. Tea, coffee and tap water are served with all meals. Outside of meal times you may purchase drinks from the bar.
