I'm particularly excited about this cruise because, although Nancy and I have spent a great deal of time in the Mediterranean and have explored nearly every corner of it, from Gibraltar to the Levant, we have never visited the Dalmatian region before. It will be a first for us too! I'm especially looking forward to seeing historic Dubrovik and the remains of the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, with lots of wine and good food in between. This is a storied land, washed over by civilizations ancient and modern. I'm eager to see it with you and to share our impressions together. 3 Yale Study Leader Anthony Kronman Tony Kronman is Sterling Professor of Law at Yale Law School. He was appointed to this position in Professor Kronman served as dean of the Yale Law School from 1994 to He joined the Yale faculty in 1978 after teaching for two years at the University of Chicago School of Law and for one year at the University of Minnesota Law School. His teaching areas include contracts, legal philosophy, and law and religion. He also teaches philosophy, literature and history, and politics in the Directed Studies Program in Yale College. Professor Kronman is the author or co-author of five books and many articles on various scholarly subjects. Education s End: Why Our Colleges and Universities Have Given Up on the Meaning of Life was published by Yale University Press in His most recent book, Confessions of a Born Again Pagan, was published by Yale in Professor Kronman was born in Los Angeles and attended Williams College in 1963, graduating in 1968 with highest honors in political science. Following college, he studied philosophy at Yale and received his PhD in that field in During his four years as a graduate student, Professor Kronman was a Danforth Fellow. In 1972, he began the study of law at the Yale Law School and received his JD in While at the Law School, he served as a senior editor of the Yale Law Journal. Professor Kronman is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Council on Foreign Relations. In June 2004, he was named Commander of the French National Order of Merit. He has served on the board of various nonprofit organizations including the Foote School in New Haven, Yale University Press, the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, and the American College of Greece. From 2002 to 2006, he served as a director of Adelphia Communications Corporation, and was the lead director of the company for three of these years. He has been of counsel to the law firm of Boies, Schiller & Flexner since June He is married to Nancy Greenberg and has four children, all graduates of Yale College. BAY OF KOTOR HVAR Monday, May 28 Cruise to the island of Hvar, known for its fields of fragrant lavender and beautiful walled city. Stroll along the elegant main square, with views of St. Stephen s Cathedral, distinguished by its tall, rectangular bell tower, and the 15th-century Franciscan Monastery, whose refectory contains a 1524 edition of Ptolemy s Atlas. This afternoon cruise to the picturesque Kornati Archipelago, a dense string of karstlimestone islands that arose from marine sediment in the distant past. TROGIR Tuesday, May 29 After cruising along the beautiful Dalmatian coast, arrive in Trogir, enclosed by medieval walls on a small island. Enjoy a walking tour of the city s UNESCO World Heritage palaces, churches, and ramparts, including the 13th-century Cathedral of St. Lawrence, which houses the Renaissance Chapel of St. John. Climb the cathedral tower for panoramic views of Trogir. This evening, enjoy a musical performance by Croatian folk singers.

Explore the remarkable Roman ruins of Diocletian s Palace, which dominates the waterfront of Croatia s second-largest city. Continue to the Mestrovic Gallery, housed in the former home of Croatia s best-loved artist and sculptor, Ivan Mestrovic. KORCULA Thursday, May 31 Korcula is the sixth-largest island in the Adriatic Sea, rich in vineyards and olive groves, picturesque villages and a glorious old town, and age-old religious ceremonies, folk music, and dance traditions. Sample some of Croatia s famous wines, including the white wine made from pošip grapes that grow primarily on Korcula, as well as local specialties. Depart for Kotor, a World Heritage site that is part of the larger Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor, this afternoon. KOTOR, MONTENEGRO Friday, June 1 The Running on Waves enters Montenegro s dramatic fjord-like Bay of Kotor through its triple bays, which are surrounded by the majestic Dinaric Mountains. Upon arrival, disembark for a walking tour of the town s historic Venetianinfluenced center. Enjoy time for independent exploration of this tiny jewel-box walled city before returning to the ship and cruising once again through the breathtaking scenery of the Bay of Kotor, passing by the man-made island of Our Lady of the Rocks en route to Dubrovnik. 6 Program Rates, per person Running on Waves Launched in 2011, Running on Waves combines the look of a classic threemasted sailing vessel with contemporary design and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. She is modern, high-speed, and environmentally friendly, with a High Ocean Class rating that allows her to sail anywhere around the globe. All thirteen sails are deployed hydraulically from the deck by a four-man crew in a ballet-like sequence of steps. The vessel meets all current SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) requirements for navigational and safety equipment. Navigating uneven terrain at archaeological sites, walking on cobblestone pavement, and standing for up to two hours at museums or other sites are the most strenuous activities.
