7 Třebíč is a strategic place for businessmen and investors who wish to expand their business to other European markets. Most of the available lands and buildings are connected by a radial road directly to the main D1 motorway. 17 LABOUR MARKET Qualified labour force In Třebíč there is enough qualified labour force, especially in traditional industries (such as machinery, shoemaking, leather industry, furniture production, energy production or electrical engineering). There is also a company kindergarten, where children are taught English by the well-established method of Wattsenglish, as well as other kindergartens, primary and secondary schools with specialized classes, high schools and language schools which also teach Czech as a foreign language. The level of education and the share of people with higher education are very important factors enhancing quality of life in the town. The level of education among the inhabitants of Třebíč is higher than the average of the Czech Republic. Třebíč Technical High School The school website: Střední průmyslová škola Třebíč (Třebíč technical high school) has a 60-year-old history and currently it has 1180 students in 50 classes. The fields of study are: energy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and many others. In all the education activities the school cooperates with partner companies from the region. The land is also connected to the road network and it has a separate sewage system. BROWNFIELDS A good example of a successful brownfield project is Borovina which has become a very lively place. 23 The Saint Procopius Basilica, originally dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin, was being built since 1230s as a part of a Benedictine monastery. The Basilica was built in Romanesque style and it is considered one of the masterpieces of medieval architecture of European significance. Beneath the eastern part of the Basilica there is a crypt which is one of the most precious parts of the Basicila. The Jewish cemetery in Třebíč is one of the largest and best preserved Jewish cemeteries in the Czech Republic. Approximately 11 thousand people are buried here, on the area of 11,722 m 2, and there are some 3 thousand gravestones. The Jewish Quarter is lis located on the left bank of the river Jihlava and it is one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. There are 123 buildings the Front and the Rear Synagogue, Jewish municipal house, rabbinate, poorhouse, hospital, school and other buildings. Typical feature of the quarter are the narrow streets between the houses, public passages, straining arches, romantic squares, verandas and balconies. There is also the House of Seligmann Bauer, which, in 2011, has been made into a Jewish museum showing the life of a Jewish family in between the wars. OTHER IMPORTANT MONUMENTS The Town Tower The tower of the Saint Martin Church is a dominant feature of Třebíč. The tower is 75 m tall the viewing platform is 35 m above the ground. Measuring 5.5 m in diameter, the clock-face is one of the biggest in Europe. Charles Square With an area of 22,000 m 2 the Charles Square is the largest square in the Czech Republic. It is surrounded by a number of significant buildings and monuments such as the sculptural group of Cyril and Methodius or the Painted and the Black House with sgraffito façade. The Castle The former Benedictine monastery is located next to the Saint Procopius Basilica. In the 16th century the monastery has been rebuilt as a castle where noble families including Pernstein, Osovský and Waldstein resided. Currently the premises of the castle serve as a Museum of the Vysočina region, featuring four modern and interactive expositions dedicated to history, nature and lives of people of the region. In the renovated wing of the Třebíč castle there is an interactive exposition titled Cesty časem (Travelling Trough Time) which allows visitors to find out more about the history of the town as well as the traditional handicrafts in an unconventional way. The exposition is designed especially for children and youth. The interactive showpieces included in the exposition allow visitors to try out the traditional crafts themselves. More on the website:
