From the floating markets and buzzing city streets in Ho Chi Minh to the serene Emerald Bay, filled with the miraculous limestone peaks that inspired hundreds of years of poetry, Vietnam is a destination that one must experience to believe. 2 DAYS 1/2 ~ NEW YORK/HONG KONG/HANOI PAN PACIFIC HANOI. (Meals Aloft) Board your overnight flight to Hanoi via Hong Kong. Land in Vietnam s capital city is a bewitching tapestry of lakes, shaded boulevards, and French colonial parks along the banks of the Red River Delta. DAYS 3/4 ~ HANOI PAN PACIFIC HANOI. (B,L,D Daily) Begin with a tour of the home and Mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh, the founding father of modern Vietnam. Take an afternoon walking tour of the Old Quarter and view Hoan Kiem Lake, containing an islet with the tiny Tortoise Pagoda. After dinner, lose yourself in a performance of the world-famous Water Puppet Theatre. The next day, visit the Vietnam Women s Museum, a beautifully presented tribute to the women of Vietnam. Explore the Temple of Literature, which serves not only as a place of worship but as an expression of the Vietnamese esteem for education and literature. Later, discover the authentic charm of a small pottery village called Bat Trang. This artisan community was founded in the 16th century and features over 800 kilns. DAY 5 ~ HANOI/HALONG BAY PARADISE JUNK BOAT. (B,L,D) Arrive by car to Halong Bay, the Emerald Bay of Vietnam and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This vast bay was the inspiration for generations of Vietnamese poets and is filled with more than 3,000 limestone peaks that jut from the deep blue water as far as the eye can see. Board one of the fabulous traditional Vietnamese junk ships for an up-close look at the seascape and the daily life of Vietnamese fishermen. Traditionally built, your junk has private cabins with en suite facilities, spacious public areas, and a large, welcoming dining room serving Vietnamese cuisine. As you glide along the fairytale passage of the bay, you ll spot floating villages, green islets, and mysterious caverns. Take a dip at Titov Beach before settling in for dinner and a night of sleep onboard the junk. DAYS 6/7 ~ HALONG/DA NANG/HOI AN HOTEL ROYAL HOI AN, M GALLERY COLLECTION. (B,L; B,L,D) Tune your body and mind this morning as you re guided through the majestic movements of Tai Chi on the sundeck of the ship. Today, you ll continue your cruise, stopping at Sung Sot Cave and the folk art village of Dong Ho. Once you re back on dry land, board your flight to Danang at the Hanoi Airport. You ll drive to Hoi An, a picturesque riverside town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next day, prepare to learn local cuisine as you re treated to a cooking class with the team of Street International Association. As this beautifully-preserved historic city is best seen on foot, your afternoon walking tour will include a visit to a lantern making cottage and learn how to make one. End your day with a luxurious one hour massage. YOUR ITINERARY DAYS 8/9 ~ HOI AN/HUE IMPERIAL HOTEL HUE. (B,L Daily) Stop by China Beach, a place of rest and recreation for US soldiers. Take a boat excursion on the Perfume River to the Thien Mu Pagoda and continue on to the Tomb of Emperor Minh Mang. This tomb is considered the most beautiful of Hue s many pagodas and monuments. In the afternoon, see the Imperial Citadel, a vast complex built in the early 19th century and modeled, in part, on the Forbidden City in Beijing. Visit the Dien Tho Residence, where the Queen s mother lived, Thai Hoa palace, and the Halls of Mandarins. Next day, bike to Thanh Toan village on the green shaded roads, passing by the communal houses along the rivers, canals, and the rice fields.the day is dedicated to learning the technique of rice cultivation, the center of this region s economy since the 16th century. Later, proceed to Tay Linh pagoda. Begin a spiritual discovery with a monk during the visit of the Buddhist sanctuary. The remainder of your evening is at leisure to relax at your hotel. DAY 10 ~ HO CHI MINH CITY (FORMERLY SAIGON) SOFITEL PLAZA SAIGON. (B,L) A morning flight takes you to Ho Chi Minh City, the effervescent economic center of Vietnam. Drive to Cu Chi tunnels, where after lunch you get to visit the underground city. You can walk through the area and learn about the day-to-day life of the Vietcong, examine their cleverly disguised entrances and elaborate booby-traps, and even venture inside the tunnels. Return to the city in the late afternoon. The early evening is dedicated to an original show in the famous Opera House of Ho Chi Minh City. DAY 11 ~ MEKONG DELTA/HO CHI MINH CITY SOFITEL PLAZA SAIGON. (B,L,D) Travel south to the Mekong Delta, a unique region where life on the water has remained unchanged for centuries. Stop by the Vinh Trang Pagoda, a temple and sanctuary for orphans and needy children. Board your boat and explore the narrow, mud brown waterways and fertile islands. See the step-by-step process of the making of Vietnam s well-known coconut candy. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the evening and settle in for dinner on board the Bonsai. DAYS 12/13 ~ HO CHI MINH CITY/NEW YORK (B,D; Meals Aloft) After breakfast, enjoy a tour highlighting the essential sights of this bustling city. Visit Notre Dame, an impressive neo-romanesque cathedral. Dive into modern history with a tour to the Reunification Palace. Next you re off to the Saigon Opera House, one of the most iconic buildings in the city. Later, continue to the War Remnants Museum, which memorializes the nation s struggles.
