Illustr. Rolls-Royce Pages 6-10 Pages on a new ship for Denmark Pages editorial Despite the crisis of the shipping industry we can see first signs of the market recovery. Around the world the number of new ship orders rose over the last few months. However, as the shipbuilding industry slowly picks up speed, special ship types are gaining in importance. Shipping in Europe is going through a period similar to that which was experienced in the XIX century, when we went from sail to steam. But at that time the change was commercially driven. Now we are looking for an alternative ways of propelling and fuelling ships because of the environmental regulations. There are challenges ahead: as of 2015 no ship fuels with a sulphur content of 0,1 per cent or more will be allowed. As of 2016, the NOx emissions of newly launched ships must be reduced to about 25 per cent of the current value. And as of 2020, all HFO is expected to be banned within emission control areas. It looks that most of ships will have to be converted to other fuels, retrofitted with exhaust gas scrubbers or scrapped by then. One interesting solution is LNG - the general trend towards this kind of a fuel is undeniable. For instance DNV GL expects the LNG powered fleet to grow to 3200 ships by the year The speed of introduction of LNG largely depends on the refuelling infrastructure, the fuel savings compared to diesel fuel and the required legal framework, but the number of gas powered ships ordered, destined mainly for short sea shipping has been increasing. Experts also agree, that billions will be invested in offshore energy over the coming decades, whether in the oil, gas Why we care of niche markets or wind sector. The offshore oil and gas business will continue to grow on new more difficult, deeper and less accessible areas like in the Arctic. As the global energy requirement increases, so does the oil and gas industry s demand for special ships. The safety requirements get stricter and the equipment more complex - offshore service vessels (OSV), high-powered special ships equipped with advanced dynamic positioning (DP) systems, have moved into focus. European shipyards are main manufacturers of both ship types mentioned above because of their good reputation. And not only of them, but also of cruise ships and yachts, as well as naval vessels. In these segments s still count on quality made in Europe, problem solving capabilities, quality of execution and adherence to delivery schedules. In executing more complex projects, European yards continue to hold a strong position in the market. And Remontowa Shipbuilding, member of Remontowa Holding is among the most trusted ones in these niche markets. In the recent Clarkson Research survey of the world shipbuilding (as of May 2014) in the category of the construction of large platform supply vessels above dwt we have the 6th position in the world and the 1st in Europe. In the same survey when taking into account entire offshore vessels production we hold the 14th position in the world and the 3rd in Europe. Please, read about our new and ongoing projects on the next pages of the magazine to get more familiar with our activity. A new contract for the construction of AHTS destined for operation in harsh environment conditions was signed on 8th of May The vessel will be built for Canadian-Norwegian joint venture Secunda Canada, than she will be chartered to one of the largest oil companies in the world - ExxonMobil. Secunda Canada, which is 50% owned by Siem Offshore, for which we are building dual fuelled LNG powered platform supply vessels at our shipyard, has entered into an agreement with Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd and ExxonMobil Canada Properties for the charter of an AHTS vessel, for a five years firm contract, with a total of 15 years options, to support the Hibernia and Hebron fields offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. 2 ISSUE 2(10) June 2014 magazine 3

offshore The ship able to break pack ice The vessel is destined for satisfying the general demands of the offshore industry as well as ice management including monitoring of freezing level and - if necessary - correcting course of moving icebergs to protect offshore installations in the region of Labrador and Newfoundland. Furthermore, the vessel will be used for passenger transport and evacuation, oil recovery and fire-fighting protection. These tasks will be carried out around one of the world s biggest offshore platforms - Hibernia and on the Hibernia and Hebron offshore fields. The vessel will be equipped with a water monitor, which will break the pack ice around the platform and prevent from formation of ice cover. The Rolls-Royce Wave Piercing hull will cut through the waves, minimizing the green water intake and ensure a safer and more comfortable journey. The robust hybrid propulsion system will increase the vessel operational flexibility and reduce fuel consumption. - This contract is an important next step in Secunda s plans for fleet renewal and growth in the Canadian market - Idar Hillersoy, CEO of Secunda commented. The AHTS will be built according to Rolls-Royce Marine design. The ship will feature a Rolls-Royce integrated power and propulsion system. The overall length of the vessel will be 87.3 meters with a beam of 20 meters and a dead weight of approximately 4000 tons. The vessel is due for delivery at the end of The design has been optimized bow to stern for the demanding scope and harsh Grand Banks conditions including all the latest technologies related to safety for vessel crew and operation Idar Hillersoy added. Contribution to the Hibernia project It is worth to remind, that Gdansk Ship Repair Yard Remontowa S.A., member of Remontowa Holding and one of the largest repair and conversion yards in Europe, contributed to the Hibernia project in the late 1990s. The Yard built two barges for transporting the platform topsides to her destination and mating topsides with gravity base structure (GBS). The topsides were positioned over the GBS and the two structures were coupled together by simultaneously de-ballasting the GBS and ballasting the barges. For safety execution of the lift-off, transportation and mating operations the barges had to be suitably prepared. The Hibernia platform with a supply boat off the east coast of Newfoundland. Photo: Reuters/STR New In order to provide the necessary capacity with respect to buoyancy and structural strength one of the barges was extended and both were reinforced internally and with deck tank structures, a total of 3300 t of extra steel. The construction, modifications and additions to the barges were performed at Remontowa S.A. In this way, Ship Repair Yard Remontowa S.A. - contributing to the construction of fixed offshore platform in widely publicised, high profile offshore project - has earned its position in the offshore market. Now, Remontowa Shipbuilding will produce the ship for supporting and protecting the Hibernia platform. The Hibernia Oil Platform The Hibernia field was discovered in 1979 and lies 315 km east south-east of St. John s, Newfoundland, in a depth of 80 m of water. The platform is comprised of a concrete gravity base structure with storage for 1.3 million barrels, 83 wells, a crude oil loading system, subsea installations, and topsides for the drilling, production, processing and shipment of 110,000 barrels/day of crude oil for a period of 18 years. Remontowa Shipbuilding has a vast experience in building offshore support vessels. During the recent 10 years the yard has delivered 40 offshore support vessels enjoying an excellent reputation and recognition. 4 ISSUE 2(10) June 2014 magazine 5

In the background this is how the vessel will look like First steel cutting for a minehunter for the Polish Navy Special ship in a special hall The construction of a first Kormoran II (Cormorant II) minehunter commenced with ceremonial first steel cutting held at Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., member of Remontowa Holding on 25th April 2014 attended by Polish Navy commanders, top officials, including vice-mod and Commander-in-Chief of Polish Navy. The contract for its construction was signed on the 23rd of September 2013 with the Polish consortium led by Remontowa Shipbuilding in Gdansk including also Naval Shipyard Gdynia and Marine Technology Center (OBR CTM S.A.) in Gdynia. The program assumes the construction of three ships. The delivery of the prototype ship is expected to take place until November 2016, while the next two ships will be delivered after the first one. Non-magnetic steel The non-magnetic steel was chosen for construction material. Polish Navy Vice-admiral Waldemar Gluszko explained that an important reason for choosing steel and not composites were lower operating costs of ships. The construction costs of the ship are only 25 percent of the total cost, and 75 percent are the costs of maintaining the ship after its construction. Additionally, ships built with non-magnetic steel will be easier to modernise in the future. The ship is dedicated to mine hunting tasks in Polish EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone), as well as in tactical task forces in the Baltic and the North Sea and other auxiliary tasks defined by Polish Ministry of Defense. The vessel is designed with great care to achieve low signature and high manoeuvrability, thanks to use of cycloid propellers driven by diesel engines. The ship with length of 58,50 m will be operated by 45 persons crew. In the fourth quarter of 2013, model tests of creating the shape of the hull were carried out in Ship Design and Research Centre (Centrum Techniki Okrętowej) in Gdańsk. The result of the test was to define the seaworthy of the ship and its maneuverability. Thanks to detailed analysis of the parameters it was possible to improve the hull s shape and precise calibration of power system. 6 ISSUE 2(10) June 2014 magazine 7

navy ships New production hall Secretary of State Czesław Mroczek activating the cutting machine. The construction of the ship began! The first steel cutting is the milestone ending the phase of technical investigations, as well as starting real construction of the ship. On the occasion of the first steel cutting, a new production hall, devoted to naval ships construction, was officially opened at Remontowa Shipbuilding. The hall has been fitted with special devices, monitoring and filtering systems to prevent air pollution inside the hall by intake of iron filings from the outside production site which contains a substantial amount of highly polluting materials and to comply with stringent requirements (temperature, humidity etc.) necessary for works with non-magnetic steel. 8 ferries Installation of a cryogenic tank and a superstructure on a new ship for Denmark The ferry is shooting up! The construction of the first LNG powered car passenger ferry destined for the Danish waters is in progress. In April another two important milestones were reached a cryogenic tank and the ship s superstructure were installed. Cryotank lifted up by the shipyard s crane. Photo: Media4Sea This project currently executed at our shipyard was described in details in the previous issue of the magazine. Just to recall we are building the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) ferry designed for domestic trade (within one country) in the European Union (EU). The ferry is destined for year-round service in local car and passenger traffic between island (Samsø) and the mainland (Jutland), namely on the route Saelvig Hou. The hull of this modern, double-ended, car and passenger ferry with gas-electric propulsion being built for Samsø Kommune, Denmark, was Huge superstructure in the heights, lifted by the REM 220 floating sheerleg Photo: Grzegorz Landowski was shifted and lowered onto the ferry s deck. Photo: Grzegorz Landowski launched at Remontowa Shipbuilding, member of Remontowa Holding on March 27, Currently, the ship is being outfitted. It s estimated, that companies operating in the Remontowa Holding group will contribute to the project some 60% of total workload. The detailed design and workshop drawings of the vessel are prepared by the Holding s in-house design office RMDC, while complete ro-ro handling system will be supplied by Hydroster. The ferry will be equipped with luminaires manufactured and installed by POLAM-REM, and FAMOS will fit all interior spaces with furniture. What is more, the heart of the ship s propulsion LNG system with a special cryogenic tank and cold box, entirely designed in Poland will be produced and delivered by FUO RUMIA. Recent months have seen two operations which have constituted important milestones on the pathway of this project. The first occurred on April 14, The cryogenic tank for LNG, was transported from the FUO RUMIA company facilities in Gdynia to the shipyard, where it was painted and prepared to be shifted on board. There were dual - fuel supply units installed on the ship prior to shipment of the tank. The operation started on April 26 early in the morning and took a couple of hours. The tank integrated with a cold box (a module containing heat exchangers, piping and other related cryogenic equipment) was lifted up by two cranes, transferred above the ship and lowered onto the open car deck, then moved towards amidships and lowered again into a destined compartment under the main deck. This is the first cryogenic LNG tank destined for the sea ever built in Poland. Until now, such tanks installed on gas driven ships built at our shipyard had been imported from China, Norway and other countries. The second operation on the site took place on April 29, That day, a huge superstructure weighing some 82 tons was lifted up from the shipyard s quay, transported onto the ferry and installed on the hull. In the installation, the Remontowa owned sheerleg REM 220 floating crane of 200 t lifting capacity was utilized. 14 ISSUE 2(10) June 2014 magazine 15

ferries events Two companies of Remontowa Holding involved in the construction of modern ships for Canadian BC Ferries The first dual fuel in the fleet! RAL representatives visited Remontowa Holding The long-time relationship In July 2014, BC Ferries has awarded us contracts totaling $165 million to build three new intermediate class vessels. Rendering of BC Ferries new Intermediate Class Ferries to be built at Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. Illustr.: BC Ferries Our shipyard has been entrusted to execute the contracts after the completion of an extensive competitive bidding process. Criteria for shipyard selection included the design and construction plan, recent experience building intermediate ferries, capability of introducing new technology such as LNG, satisfaction (references from other s), delivery schedule, price and payment terms, financial stability and ability to provide guarantees. - These are design-build, fixed-price contracts that provide BC Ferries with substantial guarantees related to delivery dates, performance criteria, cost certainty and quality construction - said Mark Wilson, BC Ferries Vice President of Engineering. The new intermediate class vessels, to be built to Lloyd s Register class, will be the first vessels in BC Ferries fleet to operate as dual-fuel capable using Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or diesel fuel for propulsion and power generation. - This is an exciting initiative for BC Ferries that can reduce upward pressure on fares due to lower fuel costs for LNG, and reduce the environmental emissions substantially since LNG is a cleaner and greener fuel compared to current alternatives - said Wilson. Two of the new ships will replace the 49-year old Queen of Burnaby, which sails between Comox and Powell River and the 50-year old Queen of Nanaimo, which services the Tsawwassen Southern Gulf Islands route. The third vessel will augment peak and shoulder season service on the Southern Gulf Islands route, plus provide refit relief around the fleet. These new 105 metre vessels will accommodate 145 vehicles and 600 passengers. The first two vessels are expected to be delivered in 2016, while the third one, in It worth mentioning, that basic design and workshop drawings of the ferries have been prepared by Remontowa Marine Design & Consulting (RMDC), the largest marine design office in Poland, which is also a member of the Remontowa Holding capital group. The RMDC company has been co-operating with Remontowa Shipbuilding for years, due to its vast experience in designing of double sided, environmentally friendly ferries built (or being under construction) for European owners. From left: Andrzej Wojtkiewicz CEO of Remontowa Shipbuilding, Jens Andersen CEO of Royal Arctic Line, Piotr Soyka chairman of Remontowa Holding, Ole Frie chairman of Seatruck Ferries and Jan Paszkowski board member of Remontowa Shipbuilding. On 14th of April 2014 representatives of Royal Arctic Line paid a visit to our shipyard, which belongs to the Remontowa Holding capital group. Jens Andersen, CEO of Royal Arctic Line and Ole Frie - chairman of Seatruck Ferries Ltd. and the RAL supervising board member were also warmly welcomed by Piotr Soyka, chairman of Remontowa Holding in his Gdansk based headquarters. Both companies have got familiar each other since 2005 when a 572 TEU, 113 m-long, container carrier was built for RAL at our yard. The ship was contracted in 2003 by Remontowa S.A. and Piotr Soyka was the chairman of the company at that time. After a christening ceremony held in Copenhagen, with the Danish Princess Mary Elizabeth, as the Godmother of the ship, Mary Arctica started its service carrying to Greenland everything that is indispensable to its inhabitants. And now Remontowa Shipbuilding is carrying out the construction of further five ice-going special cargo ice-classed container ships destined for Greenland s Royal Arctic Line again. The largest one, able to carry 606 TEU will be basically a slightly modified sister to Mary Arctica mentioned above. Its hull is taking shape on the shipyard s assembly line and is expected to be launched soon. There are also two approximately 108 TEU ships and two 36 TEU carriers on order and their hulls are also being assembled. The contract fills the order book until 2015, providing continued occupation for 1500 persons strong workforce of the yard and subcontractors. Therefore, the meeting was an excellent opportunity to renew mutual acquaintance and to talk about current projects. Ole Frie visited our shipyard for the first time. 16 ISSUE 2(10) June 2014 magazine 17

events SMM 2014 in Hamburg is getting closer Meet us at our stand! In Hamburg, on 9-12 September 2014, the SMM trade fair will be held. We cordially invite you to visit our stand B4.EG.305. More than 2000 exhibitors from over 60 countries worldwide and industry visitors are expected to attend the event. This year fair is the first ever SMM to assign a specific theme to each day. On the eve of the opening day financial topics will be discussed. The opening day (9 September) will be dedicated to the protection of the maritime environment, while the next day will focus on security and defence. On 10th of September the booming offshore segment will move centre stage and the final day s theme is new to SMM Recruiting Day. With newbuilding prices at a low level and tough environmental and efficiency requirements ahead, the time is right for shipowning companies to invest in modernising their fleets. Ship technology is becoming more important. Energy efficiency, green shipping, ship deployment to extreme regions, and niche markets are some of the catchwords. As the global energy requirement increases, so does the oil and gas industry s demand for special ships. As oil and gas production advances into more demanding environments, the safety requirements get stricter and the equipment more complex - offshore service vessels (OSV), high-powered special ships equipped with advanced dynamic positioning (DP) systems, have moved into focus. They transport crews and supplies to and from offshore platforms. A study by Clarkson Research Visit us at our stand B4.EG.305. during SMM You will be warmly welcomed! Photo: RSB sees the anchor handling tug (AHT) and platform supply vessel (PSV) market growing at nine per cent annually. But there are also other challenges: as of 2015 no ship fuels with a sulphur content of 0.1 per cent or more will be allowed. As of 2016, the NOx emissions of newly launched ships must be reduced to about 25 per cent of the current value. And as of 2020, all HFO is expected to be banned. These limits are now being implemented in the emission control areas (ECAs) in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and along the North American shorelines. Sustainable, ecologically feasible, affordable: no fuel is a better match for the requirements of modern ship operation than liquefied natural gas (LNG). - I am convinced, that by 2020 most shipowners will be ordering LNG - powered ships - says Henrik O. Madsen, CEO of the classifi cation society DNV GL. In Remontowa Shipbuilding, we produce both advanced offshore service and LNG powered vessels as well, so we meet these challenges on a daily basis. We are ready to help owners with building such state-of-the-art and tailor made vessels.
