1 Scenario 1 The Local Election The town of Walden is holding an election for mayor. People in Walden get very excited about elections, so the candidates have been campaigning for over a year. Candidate #1 is Julia Phillips. She has some city council experience and she has supportive friends and family. In fact, her best friend Henry has invested thousands of his own dollars into her campaign because he is confident she is the best candidate for the position. Candidate #2 is Charles Lawrence. He doesn t have much experience, but he is well-liked in the community and was able to raise enough money through small donations from supporters. Election Day! 2 Scenario 2 The Sinking Ship Mark Engel is a self-made millionaire who has made his money in the vacation cruise business. He currently owns four cruise ships. In June, one of his ships took off from Baltimore, headed for The Bahamas. There were over 5,000 passengers onboard. Somewhere near Myrtle Beach, the cruise ship encountered a mechanical issue due to a mistake made by the captain. It was at risk of sinking, so all unnecessary cargo including the food in the kitchen had to be thrown overboard to save lives. In the end, four people passed away but everyone else made it to land with only minor injuries. 3 Scenario 3 Goofing Off Andre is a straight-a student who always works hard at school. He typically turns his homework in on time and participates regularly in class. Sarah is the class clown. Her grades aren t too bad, but she is always goofing off in class. When she and her friend Kayla end up in the same class period, all bets are off. On Tuesday, Sarah was feeling especially goofy. She shouted something funny to Kayla across the classroom, and most of the class started laughing. It took about 5 minutes to get everyone fully back on track.
