1 3rd - 8th March Ray Warner founder of the Dover Film Festival. There is an opportunity to slip back 40 years to view the events in Dover in 1978 following the interval. At the end of World War II, Ray had his own photographic shop in Townwall Street. 5 Love Kearsney Abbey Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens parks received an award for 3.1m from Heritage Lottery fund. The plan is to restore these two historic parks to create a unique heritage, community and event venue. Visit the Hub in the Charlton Centre 4

6 Dover Big Local has been entrusted with 1m Lottery funding to spend on central Dover over a 10 year period, which began in Following detailed research and working with residents, a plan for Dover was developed that includes work on: Business and Tourism Green Spaces Arts and Culture Health and Wellbeing Communications Dover Big Local has a Community Hub providing support, training, and networking opportunities, that help residents access services, develop plans to improve their area and empower them to find solutions that work to make Dover an even more vibrant and attractive place to live, work and play. Funding in Dover The Port of Dover Community Fund provides grants between 2,000 and 10,000 to support charitable activities across Dover and the surrounding areas. 7 St George s Day Hundreds of people lined the streets of Dover to pay their respects to those who were killed and wounded during the Zeebrugge Raid 100 years ago which was the most audacious amphibious attack of the Great War. The raid on the Belgian port was a desperate attempt by the Royal Navy s Dover Patrol to stop German submarines wreaking havoc among allied shipping. During the raid on 23 April 1918, 277 men were killed and 356 wounded. The Royal Marines Band march down the High Street. DOVER LIONS CLUB Are you interested in joining us? 8 Charity Concert An Evening of Entertainment featuring 3 s a Company in aid of Pilgrims Hospices at Dover College raised over 3,000. 10 Mayor Making Councillor Mrs Susan Jones succeeded Councillor Neil Ricks as Mayor of Dover at Mayor making ceremony in the Stone Hall at Dover Town Hall. The award of Honorary Freeman is the highest mark of distinction the Town Council can give and is for exceptional service to the Town and its community. Mrs Adeline Reidy is the first female Honorary Freeman of Dover. Reverend Michael Hinton, Mr Pat Sherratt, Mrs Adeline Reidy, and Mr Jim Gleeson have all, in different ways, given unstintingly over many decades to make Dover a better place to live and work and were made Honorary Freeman of Dover. 19 Youth Theatre Dover Youth Theatre ran a course in theatre combat Founded in The Dover Youth Theatre was conceived as a means of expanding the opportunity for young people to learn more about drama and dance and related subjects. Dover has had a long tradition of theatre and music and DYT provides a means of introducing new talent to the arts. Many of the students of DYT have gone to studying drama in higher education and with professional companies. Many more have participated purely for the enjoyment of the theatre. 21 Events A Halloween Trail was organised for the children in the Halloween half term. Pudsy Bear was there to encourage the children to take part. Restoration work is taking place in St Mary s Church Dover. Port of Dover Community Regatta is a major event in the callendar. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) sea rescue display.
