2 We d love to discuss your Antarctic travel plans Antarctica Travel Centre is the specialist Antarctica area of Tailor-Made Journeys. It s our first-hand knowledge that allows us to help you organise what could be described as the ultimate holiday. We will also look after your pre and post voyage arrangements, whether that s in South America or in New Zealand. We have hand-picked a number of vessels and operators that we know well and trust to provide you with that holiday of a lifetime. Our goal is to give you professional and independent advice to help you select the right vessel, voyage, operator and travel at the right time to maximise your enjoyment and value from your trip. meet our knowledgeable team Alex Burridge Managing Director In 2001 I undertook the first of many voyages to Antarctica, Falkland Islands, South Georgia and later the same year to the High Arctic (Svalbard/Spitsbergen). My experience and knowledge gained whilst working for several Polar ship operators, allows us to offer expert, independent, advice to ensure your trip south really is as special as it should be. Jennifer Boyd My inaugural cruise to Antarctica was in 2004, the experience was beyond all of my expectations. Magnificent glaciers, beautiful icebergs, impressive mountains and the wildlife encounters all contribute to the allure of the Antarctic continent. The second time round I experienced kayaking and camping on the ice as well finally experiencing the polar plunge. Alana Lewthwaite My experience in Antarctica can be described as nothing short of amazing. Taking a 2 hour flight from Punta Arenas, Chile in a purposebuilt BAe-146 plane to King George Island in the South Shetlands. From King George Island, it was straight onto a Zodiac to board the waiting MV Ocean Nova, a 68-passenger ship with all the amenities needed for an exciting journey along the Antarctic Peninsula. Hayley Crowden In 2015 I realised a lifelong ambition of travelling to Antarctica. I was fortunate enough to also visit the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, which I have to admit was my favourite (much to the chagrin of some Antarctic aficionados). Gold Harbour on the southern tip of South Georgia has to be one of the most stunning places on our planet. Rachel Callus In March 2017 I was lucky enough to visit Antarctica, South Georgia & Falkland Islands on-board the Luxury/ Expedition ship Sea Spirit. It was fantastic mind blowing actually (occasionally literally the winds down South have nothing to stop them). Nature lovers, history buffs, geology enthusiasts every one of them will be overwhelmed by what they see it really was a trip of a lifetime and an experience of my life. I d love to share with you my new-found experiences. Cinzia Mucciante I recently returned from the Canadian High Arctic (Baffin Island and Greenland) I struggle to find words to describe just how amazing the trip was. The scenery, the wildlife, the expedition crew and the ship were all amazing. I didn t realise just how powerful the ice would be, massive glaciers and near Illulisat thousands of icebergs. Getting There We can look after all aspects of your voyage including all of your international flights whether that s to South America or New Zealand. We are a member of IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators), as well as a member of AFTA (Australian Federation of Travel Agents) and of ATAS (AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme) who set the benchmark of quality for the travel industry. 4 expedition SHIPs Generally expedition ships have a greater emphasis on maximising time off the vessel or out on deck than on a larger more luxury ship. This is helped by most having fewer than 100 guests, hence all guests can go ashore at the same time. On most days an Expedition ship will offer two off ship excursions. The expedition team works closely with the ship s captain and crew to deliver a high level of service and a flexible approach which means they can react to local circumstances; like a group of feeding whales, if possible they will stop and launch the zodiacs. The cabins are comfortable, the food of a very high standard. An expedition client is someone who wants to maximise their opportunities to get off the ship and learn. Guests onboard are of all ages however you will be physically able to climb some relatively steep stairs and get in and out of a Zodiac. 12 expedition/luxury SHIPs As the name suggests these ships are a hybrid of an Expedition Ship and a Luxury Ship. Some are small ships with close to 100 guests and can offer two landings a day and focus on maximising opportunities for exploring as on an expedition vessel but with the added comfort of having larger, more comfortable cabins and common areas. Those with up to 200 guests generally offer one off ship excursion a day (largely due to time factors associated with the 100 passenger ashore limit) and still have an adventurous soul. Generally cabins are larger or perhaps the ship is newer than an Expedition ship. Meals are a mix of buffet and served courses and the cuisine is of a very high standard. By paying your non-refundable deposit to Tailor-Made Journeys Pty Ltd trading as Antarctica Travel Centre you are accepting these conditions. 1. Tour costs Tour costs Costs are based on ground costs, airfares and exchange rates at the time of booking. While we make every effort not to increase prices, in the event of exchange rate fluctuations, increases in hotel rates, airfares, entrance fees, fuel costs or increases in ground operator fees, we reserve the right to amend our prices, with or without notice, at any time up to and including the day of departure. Acceptance of this arrangement is an express condition of making a booking. Rates for voyages, flights are based on tariffs and exchange rates in effect at the time booking and are subject to change prior to departure. Substantial changes in tariffs, exchange rates and the price of fuel, services and labour sometimes increase the cost of expedition arrangements significantly. Antarctica Travel Centre reserves the right to alter prices or introduce surcharges accordingly, even if payment has been received in full. All travellers are required to pay for their excursions and additional purchases in conjunction with their excursions in the same currency. Discounts and Promotions; Antarctica Travel Centre has the right to limit, withdraw or change any and/or all discounts and promotions without notice and/or compensation. 2. Not included in your tour costs Airfares unless otherwise stated, visa and passport costs, travel insurance, excess baggage, airport departure and ticket taxes, laundry, postage, telephone calls and items of a personal nature, vaccination and medical expenses, meals not mentioned in itinerary, beverages, and gratuities. 3. Fly Cruise voyages ONLY: The operation of flights from Punta Arenas to or from King George Island are weather dependent. FOR CANCELLATION DUE TO ALL OTHER EVENTS OF FORCE MAJEURE, THE STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY. 4. Changes and transfers Should you wish to make changes (not including transfers) to your booking after confirmation has been advised, a fee of $75.00 per booking will be levied on each change made. Any changes requested by you after final documentation has been issued will incur a fee of $ per booking plus any other fees levied by hotels, ground/cruise operators and/or airlines. We will do our best to process and obtain confirmation of your changes but it is important to realise that changes, especially close to departure date, can take some time to confirm and some may not be possible. Transfers of Deposits or Payments to Alternative Voyages Should travellers be unable to take the expedition they originally booked but would like to travel on an alternative date, it may be possible to transfer deposits or payments from the original booking to an alternative voyage. Antarctica Travel Centre reserves the right to prohibit transfers on any of its voyages. Should a transfer request be granted, a change fee will be charged by the cruise operator. 5. Itinerary variations It is possible that circumstances beyond our control may necessitate a route or itinerary change and, in the event of such an occurrence, we reserve the right to cancel or re-schedule tour departures and itineraries. Where it is necessary to change a hotel, we reserve the right to substitute accommodation of a similar standard. No refund will be available in the event of an itinerary or hotel change. The itinerary described is subject to change at the discretion of the ship s Captain and voyage Expedition Leader. This is an expedition to a remote part of the world and the ship operator reserves the right to change the itinerary due to weather conditions, availability of anchorages, political conditions or other factors beyond its control, without consulting the traveller. It is understood that such decisions will be made in the best interests of all travellers aboard and with regard to the safety of the vessel. The traveller has no right to any refund or other considerations in the event of these itinerary changes. The traveller must be in possession of a valid passport and any visas, permits and certificates that are required for the duration of the services provided by Antarctica Travel Centre, and shall 28 arrange for such vaccinations as are normally recommended for the countries through which he/she intends to travel. 6. Cancellation If it becomes necessary for you to cancel your tour, you must notify us in writing. Upon receipt of your written notification, cancellation will take effect and the ship operator charges specified on your confirmation invoice will apply per person. You will also be liable for any additional penalties levied by hotels, ground operators and/or airlines. Cancellation by Ship Operator Antarctica Travel Centre and its partners begin planning voyages many months in advance of departure. Occasionally, changes have to be made both before and after bookings have been confirmed. Antarctica Travel Centre reserves the right to cancel any service prior to departure, in which case payments made will be refunded without further obligation on our part. Please note that, in the event of cancellation, Antarctica Travel Centre will not be responsible for the cost of any additional travel arrangements beyond the voyage, or other items not purchased through Antarctica Travel Centre. In such a case, Antarctica Travel Centre will not be held financially liable. However, in the event of any cost savings, Antarctica Travel Centre shall refund these monies to you. Antarctica Travel Centre or your travel agent is obliged to assist you in obtaining a return trip/flight, however, in such circumstances you are responsible for any costs incurred. Refund/unused services No refund is available for cancellation after travel has commenced. If you make any alteration to any portion of your holiday while you are away, costs incurred by such alteration will be at your own expense. After the holiday has commenced, no refunds are available for any services/ground content provided in the tour price but not utilised by you for any reason. Adventure Options (e.g. kayaking & camping) Prices quoted are based on group participation and no refunds will be made for any part of the program in which you choose not to participate, including kayaking, camping, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, or mountaineering, or which, at the discretion of the Captain and Expedition Leader, may or may not proceed for operational reasons or due to adverse conditions. It is understood that refunds cannot be made to travellers who do not complete the services for any reason whatsoever. 8. Health and immigration Medical forms, or, if applicable, a direct online link to the cruise operator s required forms, will be sent to you via once your deposit has been received. It is also your responsibility to provide information of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability that could reasonably be expected to affect your booking, as well as the enjoyment of others on the trip. Antarctica Travel Centre (or the cruise operator) reserves the right, at its reasonable discretion, to refuse your participation on a trip and/or cancel your booking. You accept that you may be travelling through areas of political or climatic instability, high altitude and remote areas, and areas without proper medical services, and you accept the associated risks. Should we deem it desirable for political, climatic or other reasons, to amend or vary any itinerary, we may do so by shortening, varying or completely re-routing the trip in which case no objection will be made by the participant. You authorise the company and its suppliers to take all necessary action in respect of medical treatment and emergency evacuation and agree that all associated costs are to be paid by you. The terms and conditions are incapable of alteration or waiver by us or any agent and by making a booking you, your next of kin, heirs, administrators and executors, accept all the conditions of contract and are bound by them. OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION NEXT STEPS Please call or contact@antarcticatravelcentre.com.au one of our specialists to discuss your ideal Antarctic adventure. We enjoy discussing your plans for a trip to the Great White Continent, we ll ask a number of questions including; what style or size of ship (both of which effect your experience), when and how long a voyage, preferred cabin type, do you want a fly-cruise and do you have specific interests e.g. wildlife must see King penguins, or want to see bull elephant seals. Once we have a good idea of your interests, timings, including budget, we will suggest the voyages/ships we believe best suit your requirements. Once you are happy we will hold a cabin/berth (usually for 5-7 days) during which time a deposit is due (ranging from 20% of the voyage price to a fixed fee of $2,500 it varies by ship/operator). The balance of payment varies between 90 and 120 prior to departure (we ll confirm the ship specific terms at time of booking). ADDITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS We can book all your flights, pre- and post-cruise accommodation and transfers (if needed), and any additional travel arrangements throughout South America. A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the total cost of these arrangements or $ per person, whichever is the greater, is required to proceed. ACCOMMODATION & TRANSFERS We require all clients to arrive in starting point no later than the night before the voyage departs. Some operators include a pre- and/or post-voyage night in their voyage cost, along with an arrival transfer to your hotel, while others do not. At the end of the cruise, most operators include a group transfer from the ship to the airport or into the town centre. If accommodation and/or transfers are not included in your voyage cost, or if you would like to spend extra nights in the city prior to your cruise and perhaps enjoy some tours and activities, we are able to book all your additional arrangements. VISAS/ENTRY FEES Most countries require you to travel with a passport that has no less than 6 months remaining validity. Australian passport-holders do not require a visa for Chile but must pay a Reciprocity Fee on arrival at Santiago Airport which allows multiple reentries within a fixed period. For requirements regarding other nationalities and/ or entry to other South American countries, check with us or your travel agent. HEALTH & VACCINATIONS An Antarctic trip may be somewhat strenuous at times and it is important that you are in reasonably good health with a high level of mobility, able to get in and out of Zodiacs on the excursions and to complete emergency evacuation procedures unassisted. No particular vaccinations are required to travel to Antarctica. However, if you are arranging pre- or post-cruise arrangements in South America, check with your doctor or specialist travel medical centre whether there is anything you may require. REQUIRED CRUISE DOCUMENTATION Once your booking is deposited and confirmed, you will be required to complete a number of forms providing personal and medical information, arrival/departure details and, if applicable, adventure option waivers, gear rental requests, etc. Depending on the cruise operator, you will either receive these as hard copy forms to be returned to us or to your travel agent or will be provided with an online link directly to the cruise operator. All completed information must be received or entered online no later than days prior to your travel date. 29

30 ship size The size of the ship, in conjunction with the style of operation (Expedition, Expedition/Luxury or Luxury), has an effect on your experience. SMALL Less than 121 What do we mean by a small ship? In simple terms a ship that can land all of its passengers at one time (you do not have to wait), which in Antarctica this means those ships with a maximum of 120 guests. Most ships offer kayaking options for guests, as they are not going ashore they are not included in the 100 passenger total; hence ships with up to 120 total guests fit into this small ship category. MID-SIZED 122 to 150 These ships cannot land all of their guests at one time, some of the guests will have to wait before they can go ashore. That said they only have 30 or 40 more guests to take ashore (excluding any kayakers). Often ships of this size will also offer a zodiac cruise either as an alternative to, or prior to, going ashore. This means you don t necessarily have to wait on the ship; you may have a choice to go ashore, to enjoy a zodiac cruise or both. Of course if all 150 guests wish to go ashore it will take more time to allow everyone to do so. This will effect either; the number of sites you visit or the total time you spend at each site. LARGER 151 to 240 Whilst in cruising terms a ship with less than 240 guests would normally be considered small, in Antarctica those with are considered large as they cannot land all of their guests at one time. If all guests wish to go ashore then it is likely that, compared to a 100 passenger ship, these vessels will either visit fewer sites in a day, or spend less time ashore at any sites visited. Some Expedition/Luxury category ships may run simultaneous zodiac cruises and landings and then offer clients the chance to swap. Many Luxury ships with 200 or more guests make one landing per day. It is in part why the on-board part of a luxury Antarctic cruise is of greater importance; as you spend more time on the ship. There are many valuable IAATO & Antarctic Treaty Guidelines here are just five; A maximum of 100 passengers may be ashore from a vessel at any one time, unless site specific advice requires fewer passengers, e.g. Prion Island (breeding site of Wandering Albatross) South Georgia maximum 20 people at a time. Only one ship may visit a site at any one time. During landings from vessels, maintain a 1:20 guide to passenger ratio at all sites, unless site specific advice requires more guides. Ships with over 200 guests have a limited number of sites they can visit Vessels with more than 500 passengers shall not make landings in Antarctica.
