Thursday June 20 ARRIVE IN MONTEGO BAY Arrive at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica. You will be met a Travel to do Good Representative for your transfer to the Riu Hotel, a beautiful 3.5 star all-inclusive beachfront property located less than 20 minutes from the airport. Your accommodations will include all meals and beverages. The property has 4 restaurants, 5 bars including swim up bar, swimming pool and spa, complimentary water sports, 2 tennis courts and a health club. Following check in, take a dip in the pool, nap on the beach or just explore the resort and all it has to offer. You ll be able to unpack and relax for a bit before we meet for an evening Group Welcome Dinner and Social. 1

2 Friday June 21 YOUR VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE After breakfast, the group will meet for a briefing. A Travel to do Good Representative will accompany the group for a visit to the Melody Home for Girls. Volunteers may participate in day 1 or 2 of volunteer project activities or both. About Our Program Partner / The Melody Home For Girls Our project partner, the Melody Home for Girls is a privately funded non-profit organization that provides housing to abandoned and abused girls in Montego Bay. Executive Director, Clair Purkiss along with her staff of 3 house mothers provide love and support to 14 girls who currently reside at the home. They are tireless advocates for the young girls who simply have nowhere else to go. Ranging in age from years, many of the girls have been abused or discarded by their families. Upon graduation from high school, the older girls leave the home for college or work but often return to help mentor and guide the younger ones. The organization s mission focuses on education, social development and occupational skill development. While living at the home, the girls are nurtured and loved and given a sense of family and community. Upon graduation, they leave for college or work but often return to mentor and guide current residents. 2

3 Friday June 21 - Day 1 Volunteer Activities The group will gather for a volunteer orientation and briefing over breakfast. After breakfast a Travel to do Good Representative will accompany the group to the Melody House. The first day of the project will consist of transforming the community room into an Empowerment Zone where workshops can be conducted and the girls can spend time doing homework, reading or simply relaxing. Volunteer activities (room makeover activities) will consist of cleaning/prep work and painting. Saturday June 22 - Day 2 Volunteer Activities The second day of the project - after the paint dries, it s now time to pull it all together. Volunteer activities consist of clean up, computer set up and decorating. Onsite Volunteer Opportunities: Do it in a Day Project: In just 2 days, we will transform the community room, turning it into a bright cheery spot for studying, reading or simply relaxing.
