4 VITI LEVU An island of unique charm with a myriad of sights and activities Viti Levu is the largest of Fiji s 333 islands referred to as the mainland. It is the hub of the Fiji Islands with travellers arriving at Nadi International Airport for their first encounter with the enormous friendliness of the Fijian people. The warm hearted native Fijians will welcome you with sunny smiles, an easygoing manner and their spontaneous good humour. Three-quarters of the population reside on Viti Levu, mostly in the three largest cities of Suva, Lautoka and Nadi. Nadi has a colourful market and a number of good restaurants and bars. Twenty minutes drive south of Nadi is Denarau Island, a man-made island of waterways, gardens and golf courses and the preferred locale for larger resorts. The island s interior s dramatic highlands and cooler temperatures offer national parks, waterfalls, local village, breathtaking views and a history of hill forts. 8 Dolphin Island - A PRIVATE ISLAND PARADISE Total Seclusion and Relaxation With provision for a maximum of just four guests at any given time, Dolphin Island offers a rare hospitality experience your own private island. 9 the MAMANUCA ISLANDS Palm-draped Beaches and Stunning Blue Lagoons A series of picture perfect coral atolls and small volcanic islands sprinkled like pearls through the large lagoons of the Malolo Barrier Reef and Viti Levu. The sea surrounding these islands is sublime: turquoise coloured and beautifully warm, excellent for snorkelling and diving and full of sea life. The small islands are encircled by soft, white sand and the evening sunsets are to die for. The twenty plus islands usually host just one resort. 11 NORTHERN ISLANDS - TAVEUNI Pristine Fiji in a Wilderness of Natural Beauty The Garden Isle of Taveuni is reminiscent of the old South Pacific; a land of copra plantations and small Fijian villages tucked away in the bush and accessed by narrow bumpy roads. 15 NORTHERN ISLANDS - VANUA LEVU A Hidden Paradise Vanua Levu is known for its extraordinary scenery and natural beauty. The rainforests, reefs and waterfalls are numerous and attract those that love sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling and hiking on an island less visited than its sister island Taveuni. The main towns are Labasa, a sugarcane town on the dry north coast and Savusavu in the south. The quaint little town of Savusavu is situated on the shores of a protected deep water harbour nestled on a peninsula which divides Savusavu Bay from the Koro Sea. Savusavu s excellent harbour makes it a favourite anchorage for yachtsmen from around the world. During the sailing season, from May to October, the town s restaurants and waterside bars are at their liveliest. The main attraction for visitors is the region from Savusavu east towards Buca Bay, the closest spot to the colourful corals of the world famous Rainbow Reef.
