It was used with the rare 1835 musket but more commonly with the Condition is very good++ with the metal being gun metal grey mixed with some light age staining. Condition VG to fine with solid brass mounted scabbard. Call for details and price it will be priced friendly! #133) - Rare and Early US Bayonet: Here is a darn scarce bayonet. It is for a 1795 US or 1798 Contract musket from the War of 1812 era. It has a 14.5 blade deeply stamped with a large US stamped sideways as well as two other letters struck so deeply that I cannot read them. There is a narrow fuller in the face of the blade running 7 back from the tip. Socket is short at 2.75 inches long with large crude mortise. Overall length is a hair more than 18 inches. There is a bridge covering the mortise at the base of the socket like on an 1816 bayonet. Attic untouched condition. Grey steel with areas of moderate pitting. Very honest, very nice, and very, very scarce Far rarer than the Sharps and Spencer Bayonets which command nearly twice this amount. $ #134) - Rare and Early 1795 US Bayonet: Here is another darn scarce bayonet. It is for a 1795 US or 1798 Contract musket. It has a 14.5 blade deeply stamped with a large US. There is a narrow fuller running 6.5 back from the tip. Socket is 3.25 inches long with large crude mortise. Overall all length is a hair more than 18 inches. Attic untouched condition. Grey steel with some areas of light pitting. Virtually identical to the Brown Bess bayonet but shorter and with mortise cut out for use with a bottom mounted bayonet lug. Blade is 14.5 long. 3.6 socket length, overall length Very fine condition, overall rust brown patina. I wish I could tell you which specific gun this fits, but at this price I don t think you will worry about it. No markings that I can see. $ #136) - Nice Age Brown Enfield Rifle Musket Socket Bayonet: This is the standard bayonet for the P-53 Enfield as used by both North and South. Rates a very good condition grade. Overall beautiful plum-brown patinated steel with crisp edges and great appeal. Letter W stamped at the ricasso. There is a slight bend at the neck which connects the socket to the blade. Would be a good match for a musket worth $1200 to $ $ #137) - Fine Enfield Rifle Musket Socket Bayonet: This is the standard bayonet for the P-53 Enfield as used by both North and 37

South. Rates a fine condition grade. Overall steel grey patina mixed with plum-brown patina on the socket, with crisp edges. Stamped into the ricasso are two interesting small markings. One is a tiny crown over a letter B over letters STA over 5. Also present is a marking of S??? 5. Very interesting and nice condition. Would be a good match for a musket worth $1200 to $1400. Tgex $ #138) - Belgian Made? Enfield Rifle Musket Socket Bayonet Fine Condition: This is the standard bayonet for the P-53 Enfield as used by both North and South. Rates a fine condition grade. Overall steel grey patina mixed with plum-brown patina on the socket, with crisp edges. The interesting thing about this bayonet is that it is stamped F & T on the ricasso, and on an upper flat of the blade is capital letter L, and on the other upper flat are two dots. This F&T marking is seen on large bore Belgian muskets made by Falisse & Trapman in Liege. Whether they made socket bayonets for the Liege Enfields I do not know, but this marking makes me believe that such may well be the case. If you are familiar with any English firm using these markings please let me know, or if you can confirm that Falisse & Trapman made these please advise. In any event this is in Very nice condition and would be a good match for a musket in the $1500 to $2000 value range. ZGE $155.0 #139) - 58 Caliber Socket Bayonet and Scabbard: Just as Billy Yank carried on his waist belt. Bayonet is VG condition w/visible US mark. Steel is grey mixed with light patina and some light pitting. The scabbard is the standard Civil War seven rivet style in VG condition. When inserted into the scabbard the bayonet sticks out about an inch and a half. There is some dirt or debris in the bottom of the scabbard that a little effort should dislodge. Perfect for display with a 58 caliber musket, or with field accoutrements of the Union Soldier. Super fair price $ #140) - 58 Caliber Socket Bayonet and Scabbard: Just as Billy Yank carried on his waist belt. Bayonet is VG attic brown condition w/visible US mark. Marked w/ J Davy makers stamp. $ #156) - Cw Large Size Army Pistol Cartridge Box: Identical to the above but unmarked in any fashion which may indicate earlier period of manufacture. $ #157) - Cw Pistol Cartridge Box: Standard issue Union Army cavalryman s cartridge box for use with the troopers Colt or Remington (or other) revolver. This is the so-called.36 caliber size with the front flap measuring 6 inches wide. This size is more commonly found than the larger size described above. The box is solid russet leather with an implement pouch on the front of the box and a wooden block drilled to accept 24 musket cartridges. The box is eight and a half inches wide, the rectangular flap is nine inches wide. The box is also four and a half inches tall and just under three inches thick. Attached to this is the original well aged linen shoulder strap which attaches to the box by means of two circular leather buttons or rosettes sewn to the back of the box. This is unquestionably the original sling that has always been with this box. The linen strap has a button hole on each end for securing to the leather buttons on either side of the back of the box. The front flap closes by means of a twine loop that engages a peg on the bottom of the box. The twine may be an old replacement for a leather thong??? There are no belt loops to facilitate use of a waist belt. Condition 39

is about excellent save for the shoulder sling which is torn completely through at the point where it once hung on a hook. This could easily be repaired but I believe it should be left as is. It hasn t been altered in nearly 200 years best to leave it this way. This rig is unquestionably from the 1812 period and possibly a bit earlier. Very appealing and very solid condition. It seems odd that such an early artifact sells for less money than the far more common Civil War counterparts. Luckily for 1812 enthusiasts such is the case Almost 200 years old. $ #162) To 1820 s Cartridge Box and Waist Belt: Another attic condition and unaltered early cartridge box rig. This one is slightly smaller than the above rig. This box measures 6.25 x 3.25 x 2.25 inches and has 24 individual tin tubes inside to hold the 69 or 72 caliber paper musket cartridges. It resides on the original waist belt and was made for use ONLY on a waist belt no provision for use on a shoulder sling. The front flap closes by means of a leather strap which passes through a crude roller buckle on the bottom of the box. The leather strap is gone the buckle is intact. The waist belt is 2.8 inches wide and closes by means of two narrow billet straps engaging small roller buckles. One closing strap and both roller buckles are long gone but the belt is still full length... and you can plainly see how this rig functioned. Overall very good condition. Very solid and still supple. $ #163) - Smooth M1858 Us Army Canteen In Excellent Condition: Just the canteen (no stopper) but a very solid example with rich green tin patina and standard pewter spout with rolled lip. This is a rare large format image. Views of Rufus King are extremely rare, and this Wisconsin portrait is truly superb. The image itself is wonderful. The damage to the mount is of no consequence as it will be hidden under a mat when framed. Of the hundreds of images I have owned this ranks in the top two percent of great views. $ #203) - Albumen Photo 9th Conn. Officer: Fine 8 x 10 inch albumen photo showing Union officer wearing frock, straps, sword, sword-belt, sash, and some sort of rosette on his breast and kerchief or award tucked into a button hole. Inscribed in ink Major Frederick Frye 9th Conn Regt plus some family data. This fellow served as Captain in the 3rd Conn. (when this photo was taken). And then served as Major in the 9th Conn. As well. He fought at Bull Run with the 3rd. Then he saw action in Louisiana (Baton Rouge, Grand Gulf, Pass Christian, ) and then back to Virginia in 1864 at Winchester, Cedar Creek, Fisher s Hill. A fine CW photo $395.00

#204) - Stereoview of a Captured Whitworth Gun - It s always neat to see how large these Artillery pieces really are, and you can even see the ornate detail on the wheels in this image. The British Whitworth was the Confederacy's most modern artillery piece $ #205) - Rare from Life Image of President Johnson by Brady - - -Brady views of this president are pretty darn scarce... A good one.. $ #206) - CDV of Gen Louis Blenker - A superb early war Brady photo showing Blenker in his 1861 grey colonel's uniform while he was commanding the 8th New York. In 1861 and made a name for himself at the battle of 1st Bull Run where he successfully covered the retreat of the Union Army after its' stunning defeat. Image bears Matthew Brady / Anthony imprint on the back. Blenker died in 1863 of battlefield injuries sustained after he was thrown from his horse $ #207) - Pair of Seth Kinman related images by Brady - Yes this rough looking man is Seth Kinman, the famed rough neck California hunter and trapper who presented the Elk Horn Chair to his dear friend President Lincoln. on Nov. 26th Excellent condition as you see and very realistically priced. Both views were taken by Matthew Brady and bear his imprint. $ #210) - CDV Photo Spencer H Mc- Coy 81st Indiana: A fine standing view w/ minor crease signed on the bottom in period pencil. McCoy served from August 1862 through June 1865 seeing action at Stones River, Chickamauga, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Nashville etc.. A very nice carte of a fighting Hoosier. Gem Gallery/ Market St. back mark. $ #211) - CDV 2nd Penna Artillery and Signal Corp Sergeant: Nice standing carte showing Wm M Thompson wearing his variant artillery jacket with low collar and single loop of collar piping. He also sports regulation trousers with sergeant's stripe on outer seam. Signed in ink on bottom front. He served from 1862 to 1864 in the 2nd Pa Artillery then transferred to the Signal Corps. Signal Corps subjects are on the scarce side... Nice uniform view. $ #208) - New York Infantry officer - A plain backdrop sets of this sharply dressed infantry line officer. he wears an officer s version of the enlisted fatigue blouse, with four buttons and an exterior pocket with something poking over its edge. Holding his hands clasped behind his back. He really shows off his foot officer s sword with its sword knot. He wears his officers sash under the belt and partly draped over it, and proudly shows off his NY rectangular officer s belt plate. A single ar on his shoulder strap shows him to be a first lieutenant. His cap seems to have a darker band at the base and a lighter crown. The insignia on its front seems to be two identical digits or letters in a wreath, maybe the 22 NYSM or 55 NYVols $ #209) - Exceptionally Clear Ambrotype of Union Army Field Officer - This is a wonderful 1/6 plate ambrotype of a sharply dressed officer carrying the rank of Major or Lt. Colonel. He wears the regulation double breasted field officer s frock coat and proper shoulder straps with oak leaf rank insignia. Incredibly sharp and clear and in perfect condition... you can make out the some of the eagles on his buttons. This one comes with mat and frame and glass but no case. Very appealing and very scarce... It is incredibly difficult to find hard images of field officers... in the 35 years that I have collected and sold Civil War photos I have owned less than a dozen hard images of field officers. I have owned thousands of enlisted images and line officer photos. $395.00

#212) - Sixth plate images Confederate Soldier: First is a sixth plate tintype of our hero wearing a Confederate depot made shell jacket with contrasting collar and cuff material. Condition is good with some light age spots. This is housed in a half case with mat, frame and glass. Second image is either our same hero or a nearly identical family member. This one shows the subject in his finest Sunday Church clothes. Great southern images. For the pair... $ Dave Taylor s Civil War Antiques #213) - Quarter Plate Tintype The Bible Reader: What a wonderful CW image. Our warrior is interesting on several fronts. First he is reading his Testament. That is pretty cool. This would be perfect to display in your collection with a Bible or Testament. Second, our soldier is wearing a rare state issued five button fatigue blouse. This style blouse is known to have been worn by Wisconsin troops and also soldiers in the 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics. The buttons on the coat are clearly rimmed staff buttons typical of both Wisconsin and Michigan. Third, the soldier is armed with his M-1816 musket and wears an eagle NCO buckle. A fine clear image, rare subject, superior condition, housed in a half case. $ #214) - Sixth Plate Ambrotype Armed Yank with Canteen & Haversack circa : This yankee has it all... gun plus equipment we seldom see in studio photos of soldiers. His musket is a monstrous 72 caliber European fire belcher of some sort. Look at the diameter of that barrel. He has a state issued shell jacket which could be New York, or Ohio, or??? He has his cloth haversack and smooth side M-1858 canteen clearly displayed to the camera as well. The canteen strap is leather which is generally an early war element. The light color haversack likewise is an early war feature. Clarity, contrast, and condition are excellent --- top shelf. Housed in a full case... $ #215) - Outdoor Civil War Time Sixth Plate Tintype: A very appealing slice of Americana --- sort of like looking through a window into the past. Early 1860s bearded traveller sits astride his trusty nag in front of a brick building. I believe Lincoln and Grant are having a meeting inside the building... are perhaps it was Lee and Davis. Or maybe its just an old warehouse in town. Either way it's a great early 1860s outdoor image housed in a full case and priced pretty darn low. $ #216) Tintype Heavy Artilleryman Armed and Ready to Kill: A CDV size tintype or 1/8th plate showing a derelict bearded Yankee wearing the regulation uniform of the Union Heavy Artillery and holding a bayonetted Enfield rifle musket that I will bet a nickel was a captured blockade gun. The Enfield has a socket bayonet affixed. Clearly visible on the forage cap are crossed cannon insignia showing that this bearded wonder was one of the Heavy Artillerymen that Gen. Grant handed muskets and said go forth during the 1864 campaign toward Richmond. Image has incredible clarity and contrast. There are some rust spots at the top and right edge. This is just the tintype, no case. Neat image. $ #217) - Tintype Sny Buckle, Bowie Knife, Western Arms Revolver: Sixth plate tintype showing all of these elements... unheard of! This is a crystal clear sixth plate tintype showing a curly haired New York Yankee (no,... not a ball player) with all the rare gear. He has an enlisted frock coat with New York state buttons down the front. His belt clearly shows the SNY buckle (State of New York)... the SNY is clearly visible to the naked eye and not needing any magnification. Tucked into his belt is a large cutlery handle Bowie Knife and what appears to be a Western Arms Co belt revolver with the solid frame and half fluted cylinder. The clarity, condition, and contrast are all superior, Housed in a full case. This is one hell of a cool image priced well below market value... Great Deal at... $ #218) - Quarter Plate Tintype Soldier on a Bender: Neat pose of yankee soldier in his shirt sleeves and holding a bottle of spirits of some sort. I am sure for medicinal purposes only. Note his uniform blouse draped over the chair and the fine patriotic backdrop. Very good condition though edges of the tin were trimmed. Housed in a quarter plate half case. $450.00

#219) - Cross Eyed Armed 10th Legion Soldier: I hope this guy aimed with one eye closed because his vision must have been somewhat skewed judging from this photo. He is a member of the famed New York 10th Legion with the distinctive uniform jacket with shield and Roman Numeral "X" (ten) on the breast. He holds his half stock fowler or rifle upright at his side. We can guess the fowler was a studio prop or that the 10th Legion was about to depart for the marshes and a good old fashioned duck hunt. I have occasionally seen these 10th Legion uniforms shown in photos but in nearly 40 years I have never seen a physical example of the jacket. The 10th Legion was the 56th New York Infantry and saw lots of combat in Virginia and the Carolinas. It lost 64 men killed or mortally wounded, and 216 more died from disease. A great ninth plate tintype housed in a full case. Neat image... $ #220) - Rare Tintype of a Lincoln Supporter - A "Wide Awake": Here is something we don't find every day... a wonderful tintype of a Lincoln Republican Wide Awake wearing the distinctive garb of the oil cloth cap and cape. The term Wide Awakes became popular during the 1860 presidential campaign. Members donned their oil cloth capes and caps and made torch lit parades across the north during the election. This image is very fine. About ninth plate size and mounted in a paper CDV size frame. Inscribed on the reverse is "John ord Hamburg Fremont Co. Iowa... My pen is poor and my ink is pale and my love for you shall never fail." Lincoln spent only three days in Iowa as best I can discover, but his supporters were staunch. A fine rare image. $ #221) - Superb Quarter Plate Ambrotype The Reading Matron: What a wonderful ambrotype photo, very artistic with the dark background. This buxom and beefy older woman has as much character as you could hope to find in a photograph. Charismatic even through a lens and a veil of 160 years. She is hefty, attired in the finest of cloth and lace, intelligent of face, and wonderfully posed as she reads for the viewer, She appears to be in her 70s in terms of age. The image was taken around 1850, meaning she would have been born around 1776 when the "US and A" was being born. A striking and artistic image housed in a full case. While our precious armed soldiers are wonderful collectibles --- this image really is a great piece of art. Housed in full case... $ #222) - Sneaky Armed Yankee: Sixth plate, about perfect condition, and crystal clear. This guy is posed so he looks a little sinister and sneaky. His musket is an Enfield, note how tanned his hands are. Housed in full case with gilt eagle on the cover. (spine split) A dandy CW photo... $ #223) - Sixth Plate Tintype Armed New York Soldier: A fine crisp view in excellent condition and superb contrast. Soldier is hatless but sports the state issue jacket that I believe is from New York. Hard to improve upon the quality of this one. Housed in full case (spine split). $ #224) - Armed Soldier Enfield Musket Patriotic Backdrop: Crisp CDV size tintype showing our Yankee boy in near perfect clarity and contrast. Very striking and very sharp. Excellent condition with just some mat marks in an oval near the top. Just the tintype, no case. $ #225) - Baby Yankee Artilleryman and His Pard: Sixth plate of two incredibly young federals. Hell, they look like 7th graders! The one kid is sporting a variant artillery shell jacket and forage cap. His pard looks like a junior desperado in training. What a marvelous character study of 19th century American youth. About perfect condition with superb clarity, contrast, and condition. Housed in a full case (spine split) One of my favorite CW photos currently on hand. $

#226) - CDV Federal Artillery Officer: Note the plumed hat and the huge crossed cannon insignia on it. Quite a sad countenance on our man's face. His weapon of choice is a cavalry saber. Great CDV blank back. Stinking with strong contrast, some age staining. $ #227) - Rare CDV of Gen John Logan by Famed Photographer John Goldin: A super carte with excellent clarity, contrast, and tone. Shows Logan with his hair as long as we ever see, and the fabulous mustache. He is wearing his Army of the Tenn medal on his left breast (partially visible). Back bears Goldin - Washington DC imprint. Condition is excellent showing only the lightest of handling. A rare view of this famous Western Theater General $ #230) - Brady CDV of Col. Edmund Cobb Charles 42nd New York: He enlisted on 5/19/1861 at New York City, NY as a Lieut Colonel. On 6/28/1861 he was commissioned into Field & Staff NY 25th Infantry. On 1/7/1862 he was commissioned into Field & Staff NY 42nd Infantry and became their colonel on Jan 7th He was severely wounded and captured at the Battle of Glendale Virginia on June 30th 1862 and he died 4/26/1863 as a result of these wounds. A most historic piece of Civil War photography. There is another portrait of him shown on the civilwardata page on the internet. Great carte. note his cap insignia w/ numeral 42, has Brady back mark. bottom of card slightly trimmed. $ #232) - CDV Photo War of 1812 Navy Officer w/ Flag Ship Cane: This tough old bird is Captain Champlin of the US Navy. He was a hero of the War of Leaning against the studio pillar is a walking stick which I believe is one of the many sticks made during the mid 19th century out of Admiral Perry's flag ship. A most historic piece of historic US photography. Back mark Fredericks of NY. $ #228) - CDV Gettysburg General David B Birney: Fine image with outstanding clarity, contrast, and tone. Back has McClees Philadelphia imprint. He organized the 23rd Pennsylvania regiment and rose to rank of general seeing action at Yorktown, Williamsburg,Manassas, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville, and, upon the death of Gen. Berry, succeeded him as commander of the division. In the battle of Gettysburg he commanded the 3rd corps after Gen. Sickles was wounded, and on July 23, 1864, was made commander of the 10th corps. Fine view edges of card have been rounded. $ #229) - CDV Photo Truly Unusual Civil War Uniform View 56th Illinois Mechanic Fusileers : The photo illustration should tell the tale. The carte is signed A. Fengler and National Park Service records show him to be Albert Fengler of Chicago... 56th Illinois Mechanic Fusileers... weird title for the regiment. I do not know why he is wearing the Russian shoulder knots, nor the aiguillette, and look at those pleats in his uniform blouse. Pretty dang wild. Photo has Little Rock, Arkansas back mark. Unit served and saw action at Champion's Hill, Big Black River, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Bentonville, and more. Pretty rare, definitely interesting... I'll price it at... $ #231) - CDV Confederate General Sterling Price: A most heroic southerner. This sums it up General Van Dorn in his report on the battle of Pea Ridge Arkansas said During the whole of this engagement I was with the Missourians under Price, and I have never seen better fighters than these Missouri troops, or more gallant leaders than Price and his officers. From the first to the last shot they continually rushed on, and never yielded an inch they had won; and when at last they received orders to fall back, they retired steadily and with cheers. General Price received a severe wound in the action, but would neither retire from the field nor cease to expose his life to danger. Nice historic carte. $ #233) - The Corporal Stole My Sword: CDV photo of Youthful NY corporal wearing his state issued jacket poses with an officer's M-1850 foot sword. Some NCOs carried foot officers swords, some photographers kept such swords on hand as props, but maybe this little weasel stole his lieutenant's sword after bludgeoning him with a brick and secreting the body in an ammuntion wagon behind the Colonel's tent.... Or not... Nice photo though... $85.00

#234) - CDV of Lt. Col. Henry Achilles (or Achillis) 105th New York: Nice photo with nice ink inscription. Back mark of Addis - Washington DC. Went into the service in 1861, was promoted to Lt. Colonel and then resigned in March of He was 55 years old. Neat carte de visite of a New York field grade officer. $79.00 #235) - Matthew Brady Outdoor CDV - Giant Cannon: A stupendous outdoor view showing the giant guns at Farnhold's House on the York River in Excellent condition just showing light handling wear. These outdoor views by Brady are getting very difficult to find now... $ #236) - Superb Western Theater 84th Regt. Officer: The illustration should tell the tale on this tough mid-westerner with huge gauntlets, boots, and unit IDed hat. Hat has regimental numeral in bugle "84"... likely 84th Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois??? A truly superb character study with the wrinkly coat and great face. $ #239) - CDV Photo Col. James Fry: Fry graduated from West Point in 1847 and served for a time as assistant instructor of artillery there. He was stationed successively in Oregon, Louisiana, and Texas, and at West point in He was adjutant of the Academy from 1854 to In 1861 he acted as chief of staff to General Irvin McDowell in the American Civil War, and in 1862 held a similar position under Don Carlos Buell. He served as the last provost marshal general of the United States from 1863 to 1866, when this office was abolished. Subsequently, he served as adjutant general and was successively brevetted colonel, brigadier general, and major general in the Regular Army. Excellent CDV with Brady/ Anthony back mark. $ #238) - CDV Full Standing Zouave with Musket: It takes about a month of Sundays to find a CDV of a Civil War zouave. They are very scarce. This is a very nice full standing view with J. Cady - New York back mark. Our stone faced warrior has his bayoneted musket at "order arms"... appears to be a model 1816 conversion musket. Look at this guy's face... I don't think the word "joy" was in his vocabulary. Very rare view... $ #240) - CDV Photo Connecticut Pards: Beautiful view, near mint, stark contrast, superb condition. Has backmark of D. Erekson of Bridgeport CT. Reverse has 3 cent proprietary green revenue stamp. $ #237) - CDV Truly Dashing Yankee Mounted Soldier: The cocky pose nearly says it all. Look closely at his trousers and you will see the distinctive interior seams of the reinforced mounted trousers of the Union Army. Our boy was a cavalryman or artilleryman. Back mark is John Holyland Washington DC. Superb condition, clarity, and contrast. A great pose... $55.00 #241) - CDV Photo A C Starret & Friend Living it Up in New Orleans: What a pose! This is about as cool as it gets in terms of Civil War pards. The only thing missing is the bottle of whiskey. Back of carte notated in period brown ink "A C Starret and Friend". This is Adrian C Starrett of the USS Mariah S Wood - West Blockading squadron. His pard remains anonymous. New Orleans back mark. Corners of card trimmed. Superb clarity and contrast. New Orleans of the 1860 s was wilder than it is today... Yanks there whooped it up pretty good. $195.00

#242) - Genuine Ford s Theater Broadside April 14th 1865 Saved by a Witness to the Lincoln Assassination: 18.2 x 6 This is the genuine article, a true April 14th, type-ii printing of the play bill advertising the play Our American Cousin. There were three actual printings of the April 14th handbill, one so rare reportedly only one specimen survives, the other two forms are well known to historians. This is an example of the revised, last printing which carries the paragraph relating that a PATRIOTIC SONG AND CHORUS HONOR OUR SOLDIERS will be performed. This element of the performance was added to the play bill when it was learned that President Lincoln would be in attendance that evening. I purchased this broadside directly from the descendants of the officer who secured it on April 14th 1865 and who was present at the theater that evening. Accompanying this broadside is a copy of an 1895 news clipping the Hegeman family gave me. It states that on the night of the assassination John W Hutchinson 13th NY Cavalry in the company of Captain Hegeman went to Ford s Theater principally in hope of seeing General Grant. obtained seats in the orchestra near the center of the house Hutchinson describes the pistol shot, Booth leaping to the stage, and he and Hegeman running into the alley with their revolvers drawn. Captain Hegeman and myself both drew our revolvers on the instant, the assassin had disappeared beyond the stage we hurried around to the alley but when they reached the alley a woman told them that Booth had mounted a horse and was gone. Not only is this broadside a rare item at face value (the last two sold for over $15,000 each at auction) it is further an actual piece of the assassination. The bill is in overall good condition with some separations at the folds, and some slight paper loss near the bottom fold. All four corners have tape residue from being mounted in a scrap book. Written in pencil in the upper left corner is the historic note The night Lincoln was shot. This is the genuine April 14th edition not one of the day after copies made by theater door keeper John Buckingham. After the murder every handbill in Washington City was taken as a souvenir. When door keeper Buckingham realized the demand for these hand bills he returned, reportedly on April 15th, to the original printer and ordered more so that he could sell them as souvenirs for ten cents. The printer had already dismantled the type from the April 14th printing, so had to reset it. And in the process the April 15, 1865 examples have numerous type variances from the true April 14th examples. (Reference Walter Brenner s 1937 essay The Ford Theatre Lincoln Assassination Playbills). The specimen here offered is absolutely, unequivocally, and without question the genuine article and so guaranteed for life. You can look for decades and not find a genuine April 14th example of this rare piece of ephemera. This is the first I ve been able to buy in the 40 years I have been collecting. Sometimes it seems like you have to wait until later in life to be able to afford the really great things in life. So be it. In terms of how I found this Had I not had a web page, the family would not have been able to find me and I would not have had the chance to buy this. Luckily the family found me on the internet, and fortunately I had the savings to be able to afford the purchase price. (The family s initial asking price was near what I have priced it at here.) Here is your chance to own a true national treasure. I doubt the opportunity will present itself again this decade. $11, #243) - Custer s 7th Michigan Cavalry Recruiting Poster: Superb condition and early 1862 printing asking for recruits for the famed 7th Mich Cav which fought with Custer at Gettysburg and all the eastern cavalry campaigns. Named for congressman Francis W Kellogg and designated Mounted Rifles. These boys were the ones issued Spencer s full length rifles just in time for Gettysburg. A super cavalry item and very rare. Measures 18 x 12 inches and is mounted on a scrap book page from where it was taken. Scrap book page is a high grade acid neutral page from the period. Super item. Super Unit. $3,800.00
