1 Kastle Kurrents The Toga: a distinctive garment of Ancient Rome, was a cloth of between 12 and 20 feet in length, draped over the shoulders and around the body. It was usually woven from white wool, and worn over a tunic. The Toga Party: a type of costume party with a Roman or Greek theme in which attendees are expected to wear a toga, normally made from a bed sheet with sandals. At Blair Atholl camp this means... A Mad Toga Party! The parties on Blair Atholl are always a blast with cracking themes in and Toga is the ultimate theme. Everyone dressed in togas jumping up and down to the beat of the music having a brilliant time. Leaders and Scouts both attended the party. Carmen, Celia, Cristina are from Murray Subcamp and the reasons they went to the Toga party is because they wanted to listen to the music, to have a fun, fantastic night, to see friends and to dance till they put us out. They went to the party with their new Spanish friends. They each wore a toga and they were glad they did as the beats went on and it was getting very hot and steamy by the end of the night.

2 Subcamp BBQ s with the extended Camp Family Sunday the 24 th of July. In the morning, all Blair Atholl fell silent for a spectacular (if wet) Scouts Own. In the afternoon and evening, however, a burst of life raced all through Target Park, as the Satellite Campers joined their matching colours of Subcamp for a BBQ. The Satellite campers were treated as camp family, with the majority of them being fed inside the large marquees, at the heart of a each Subcamp. Before this, however, some Subcamps provided entertainment for the Satellite Campers. Murray, for example, held some games, while trying to stave off the rain. MacDonald took them on a site tour, and Stewart took them for a relaxed, but wet walk through Hercules Garden, before stopping at a derelict church for a sing song under the shelter of tarpaulin. When all was done and it was time for dinner, the aid of the buddies in all Subcamps was greatly appreciated by the Subcamp staff. The buddies cooked dinner for everyone in Stewart while they were away for their walk. Overall the BBQ s were a fantastic success. Murray claims that their sausages are the best of all. 3 Irn-bru reaching new heights with The Mountain Hike Team today We did a survey and the survey was : You can pick your friends, You can pick your nose, But you can t pick...?? More than 3 cooked meat items at breakfast Who is sleeping in the next tent When you need to go to the toilet after you have just got comfy in your sleeping bag The pipe band led the parade of international flags together with the scout flags from satellite down the drive to the castle on Sunday morning for the Scouts Own. Halting the tourist trips and attracting loads of attention! Sandy opened with this is our song and the theme this year was Imagine. Each Subcamp presented a letter and offered some thoughts, I stood for International, and scouts from the represented countries explained in their own language why they are a scout. M, after a number of failed guesses involving marshmallows and chocolate money, stood for Magic, the magic of scouting. A represented A body (everybody), G for Good Deeds and I for intelligence. N was for New Experiences and New Friends whilst Satellite was Excited, Enthusiastic and lots of other E words. A number of participants and staff then took to the stage and sang John Lennon s Imagine to close the event.

4 Primordial mud from outer space is oozing its way towards MacDonald Subcamp. Attracted by all the shiny metal in evidence it will creep into the smallest spaces and loves a nice smelly boot to live in, check your shoes before you put them on, it might be hungry! Beware Stewart Subcamp, we have had rumours of tremors in your area, the mudwormus gigantikii have been spotted around the tree and they are looking hungry! If you value your toes leave them offerings of muddy marshmallows. MacLean campers.. if you hear any funny noises during the night it might be Frankenmud awakening from his daytime snooze in the muddy puddle at the QM tent, squelchy footsteps will be heard so keep quiet and still while he passes OR ELSE... Arroooooga, arrooooga! Robertson there is a mud-nado heading your way, grab as many bin bags and as much duck tape as you can lay your hands on and Be Prepared the siren of doom will sound as it approaches so keep your ears peeled and your chainsaws at the ready! TAKE COVER Murrays, warnings of killer mud in your Subcamp, the only way to defend yourself is to play the cheesiest music you can find at full volume and drive it back underground to weep quietly in its lair Precious Morrison campers, a quest has begun to find the Irn-bru ring pull that rules the Amy, search carefully and choose your companions wisely. Beware of mud lurking gollums who will try to delay your progress, keep a few smelly socks to hand to ward off evil. Dear Aunty Freeze, I have a problem. In my tent someone seems to have extremely smelly feet. Even when they are wearing multiple pairs of socks, the smell still seeps through Anonymous from Stewart What a wiffy problem you have sweetie, I m afraid the only thing that I m able to suggest to you m dear is that you have to use a peg on your nose. This will maybe allow you to get away from the smell. Dear Aunty Freeze, I have a problem, last night whilst I was at the Toga Party my Toga got covered in mud after the heavy rain Anonymous from Murray. You mucky pup, what I suggest is taking it into the shower with you and using a half cap of travel wash, and if all else fails, have your granny rinse it out when you get home, cause we are always here to help. Dear Aunty Freeze, I have a problem, I have a lazy Scout who is always runs away from the cleaning the dishes and is never here to help. What can I do? Well what your dear old Aunty Freeze would do is hold out his hands and use your duct tape and tape a cloth, a scrubbing brush to his hands and feet. This way there is no getting away without doing the dishes. I hope this helps you, and you get more help with the dishes. Dear Aunty Freeze, I have a problem. I HAVE NO 3G. I have never been without 3G for so long, and the Wi-Fi won t work on my phone. I feel cut off from the world and believe I cannot manage the rest of the camp. SEND HELP Oh dear that sounds awful for you pet. However you are surrounded by so many people. You should make friends with them and they will help you through it. You don t need the internet to have fun. In my day we barely used to use a phone, have you tried two plastic cups and a piece of string? The good auld days.

Happy 14th Birthday to Caoimhe McEnroe for Ireland who is on MacDonald Subcamp National Explorer Weekend Scotland 2 nd - 4 th of September at the Bonaly Outdoor Centre in the Pentland just outside of Edinburgh. The almost-all-inclusive (you will need to provide your own food and transport to and from the camp) price for the event is 35 per participant, and 15 per Leader. I VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU! I m back! It s my time! Every two years I return to the fields of Blair. Call me a mess, call me the black whale, call me anything you want. I love getting on your clothes, in your hair, between your toes, inside your tent. Ha ha ha ha ha. I wait for this time. It s so long coming but when it arrives, I love it! You will take me away for home stay, I can hardly wait. You will take me back to your country, I don t need a Passport. I promise to be invisible and quiet. I don t need water, but I m more fun with it. You can dry me out, but I can come back. I ll be in places you never think of. Your mom will find me when you can t.
