8 Equestrian Endurance Ride On October 5 th and 6 th ROARS assisted in an Equestrian Endurance Ride in Pama Valley. This was an exercise to test the ROARS technical and communication skill before some of the BIG events coming early next year. APRS was used with a Portable Digipeater from Fred, WA0RT0, who helped plan the event with Paul, KF6QXP. Paul was gracious enough to have the ROARS Communication Trailer parked at his property and provide for tent camping, if you were so inclined. We had some trouble with the APRS trackers, but it provided ROARS a chance to repair and improvise in the field. One of the horses could not make it through the Sunday ride and ROARS coordinated the trailer for the pick-up. While that was happening, a rider was thrown and dragged in view of KF6QXP, who called Net Control for a Paramedic. We had some trouble with the Repeater phone patch but Randy, KF6ZPN, was monitoring and call Karen, KG6BAY, to stand-by while a nurse from a Pulse & Respiration station did a preliminary check of the thrown rider. All-in-All, the rider rode back to camp, slowly. Although ROARS had some problems, these are the very things that field exercises provide for. Thanks to Jim, KG6CKC, Camp Supervisor, Marlene, KF6QXP, Net Control, Clark, KJ6KF, Terry, N6AHE, Doc, K6DOC, Don, KF6AUP, and the family members for a fine weekend.
