2 Introduction Bathurst Harness Racing Club, Panorama Cruise & Travel, Bathurst Tours and Bathurst Self Contained Accommodation have come together to produce the inaugural Harness The History Of Bathurst Tour. The Tour will run in concurrence with the 2018 Gold Crown Carnival and will also highlight the abundant features of the Bathurst Region and the Central Tablelands. We hope that you can join us to harness the excitement of the carnival and enjoy the many wonders of the district. DAY ONE : Saturday 24th March 2018 More than just a bus ride, you ll be treated to a private transfer from Sydney domestic airport terminal to your accommodation in Bathurst in the comfortable Bathurst Tours Toyota Coaster. Enjoy commentary along the way about the history of the Blue Mountains, a scenic drive through the Leura and Katoomba villages with a photo stop at The Three Sisters at Echo Point in Katoomba (weather dependent). Gold Crown Heats Race Meeting Enjoy a buffet meal in the marquee with a private tote and bar. Watch the heats of the Gold Crown and Honouree Stakes Heats. Depart : 6.00pm Return : 10.00pm DAY TWO : Sunday 25th March 2018 Gold Crown Yearling Sale : Spend the day watching and enjoying the sights and sounds of the Gold Crown Yearling Sale held at the Bathurst Showground. A short walk from your accommodation. Lunch available at the canteen on site with coffee and ice-cream from Mr Whippy or a cold beverage from the mobile bar, or Alternatively.. Mayfield Gardens & Mt Panorama Race Circuit: Words cannot describe Mayfield Gardens. The passionate dream of one man, his family and over 50 full time staff, Mayfield has grown to become possibly the largest privately owned cool climate garden in the southern hemisphere. You ll be treated to a driven tour of the owners private garden (not open to the public at this time of year) and enjoy a full commentary of how Mayfield grew from a sheep paddock at the time of purchase in 1983 to the magnificent garden it is today. Upon arrival back in Bathurst, we ll do a lap of the world famous Mount Panorama Racing Circuit. This 6.2 km racing circuit is internationally renowned. You ll be given an insight into Wahluu (the traditional name of the mount itself) and the importance of this area to the local Wiradjuri people.

3 DAY THREE : Monday 26th March Gold Bracelet & Gold Chalice Heats : Come and join us for an afternoon of racing from 1.00pm. Enjoy the 3yo qualifying heats. The day includes pick up, gate entry and a racebook voucher. Lunch will be available at your own expense at the Gold Crown Restaurant. Depart : 12.30pm Return : 6.00pm Gold Crown Calcutta & Barrier Draw : The Calcutta and Barrier Draw will be held in the Trackside Marquee on Monday Night. The evening involves the Official Barrier Draw for both the Gold Crown and the Gold Tiara followed by a 3 course buffet meal. The Calcutta will run after the meal with the auctioning of the horses involved in both finals. Depart : 6.45pm Return : 10.30pm DAY FOUR : Tuesday 27th March Visit to The Lagoon : Come and join us for a visit to The Lagoon, the heart of harness racing in the Bathurst District. The trip will include a visit to Steve and Jenny Turnbull s training centre plus morning tea. After leaving Steve and Jenny s the tour will also include a visit to Brooklyn Lodge the home of Janet & Doug Moore and Ben & Melanie Settree. One of the biggest breeding facilities in the Central Tablelands. Depart : 8:30am Return : 12.00pm Gold Crown Honouree Dinner The Gold Crown Honouree Dinner is held at the Bathurst RSL Club and includes a sumptuous 2 course alternate menu (main and dessert). The Dinner is hosted by the Mayor of Bathurst Graeme Hangar and celebrates the life and times of this year s honouree. Depart : 6.45pm Return : 11.00pm DAY FIVE : Wednesday 28th March Historical Bathurst Tour As Australian s oldest inland settlement, Bathurst has a rich, fascinating and sometimes tragic history. You ll learn about life in early Bathurst from With its excellent mix of preserved Victorian and Federation architecture, you ll be intrigued with the history, from workers cottages made from local bricks dating back to the 1830 s to grand 3 story homes. You ll also learn why so many of our historical buildings have been preserved and how the future is looking for one of Australia s fastest growing inland cities.

4 Throughout this bus tour, you ll see Australia s oldest inland church, Cobb & Co s early Bathurst offices and historical mills. Learn about the gardens, parks and so much more. This two hour historical tour is not to be missed. Depart 9:00am Return 11:00am or Depart 1:00pm Return 3:00pm Gold Crown Carnival Ladies Night Ladies Night is one of the features of the Gold Crown Carnival. You will be joining us for a lovely 3 course Buffet Meal with gate entry and race books included. The night features the Lexus of Dubbo Lady Drivers Invitational along with Fashions On The Field and a beautiful Fashion Parade featuring designs from Gorgeousness Boutique. Ladies please don your finery. Depart : 5.30pm Return : 10.30pm DAY SIX : Thursday 29th March Gold Crown Ambrose Golf Day Come and join us at Bathurst Golf Club for an Ambrose Competition. The cost includes a round of golf and lunch. Prizes will be on offer. Tee Off : 12.30pm Finish : 5.30pm OR Historical Hill End Tour Originally settled in the 1850 s, Hill End was a gold town from the beginning. But it was the early hours of 19 th October 1872 that put this little Australian town on the map when the world s largest gold nugget (specimen) was found in the Star of Hope mine. Weighing in at 286kg, the Beyers Holtermann nugget, which produced over 80kg of pure gold, created a gold rush never before seen. Arriving in Hill End, we visit the History Hill Museum. Hear from the owner himself, Malcolm Drinkwater, in his welcome chat. See the actual tip off the Holtermann nugget and marvel over hundreds of rare gold related artefacts. Visiting this museum will take you back in time. You will never forget the quirky Malcolm Drinkwater and his lifetime collection that is History Hill Museum.

5 Lunch will be at the Hill End Lodge followed by a leisurely afternoon of wandering the old town. Enjoy a beer in the Royal Hotel (built 1872), or a coffee in the General Store. You can sit back and relax on a driven town tour including a visit to a beautiful lookout to see where the world s largest nugget was actually found. Depart 8:30am Return 4:30pm Gold Crown Cocktail Party The Gold Crown Cocktail Party will be held at the Bathurst Goldfields situated on Conrod Straight with a great lookout over the Harness Racing Track. The night includes a two-hour drinks package (beer, wine and soft drink), 2 course Buffet Meal (Main & Dessert) plus a DJ and dancing. Cocktails will be available to purchase. Depart : 6.45pm Return : 11.30pm DAY SEVEN : Friday 30th March (Good Friday) Cowra Japanese Garden Tour After a delightful drive taking in the beautiful countryside until, we will arrive at Cowra. After morning tea, we visit the WWII POW camp and Japanese Garden. You ll be free to roam this amazing traditional Japanese garden, admire the work of the dedicated team and at your leisure, enjoy lunch in the garden s café. Depart 8:30am Return 4:30pm DAY EIGHT : Saturday 31st March (Easter Saturday) Old Town Square Walking Tour You will be collected from your accommodation by Bathurst Tours for the old town square walking tour. Based in and around Machattie Park, this 1.5hr walking tour will help you appreciate how carefully this beautiful garden was laid out in Learn about the convict history in the park, the people who created the park as you see it today and hear about its darker side during the convict years. You ll also admire the Courthouse, the Carillon and learn about the history of the 1830 s Ribbon Gang of bushrangers. We discuss the 1876 public school and so much more. Finish this amazing tour with an ice cream or coffee at one of Bathurst s institutions Annie s Ice Cream Parlour.

6 Charles Darwin thought the Bathurst area was a God forsaken place when he visited in the 1820 s. We re sure you ll have a much better opinion of Bathurst than that of Mr Darwin when he visited here. Depart 9.30am Return 10.30am Abercrombie House Private Tour Do you fancy walking through someone s home that just happens to be a 51 room Scottish Baronial Castle with 7 stair cases, 31 fireplaces and a gold leafed 8.1 meter ceiling in the ballroom? This is a tour not to be missed. This amazing home today belongs to the local Morgan family and was built in 1878 from bluestone, granite and sandstone. Admire the marble fireplaces in the drawing room; see the grand master s staircase and the hidden servants stair cases; learn about its sometimes tragic history and how a 50 year work by the Morgan family has allowed this mansion to be open for you to view now. This tour will be led by your own bus driver whose intimate knowledge of the property will leave you fascinated. This is a very private tour of the mansion, the Stables Village, the Chapel and so much more. Depart 1:00pm Return 4:00pm Gold Crown Final Night Come and join us in the Trackside Marquee private function to witness the Gold Crown and Gold Tiara 2yo Finals worth $100,000 each and also the Gold Bracelet and Gold Chalice 3yo Finals worth $50,000 each plus many more exciting support races. The night will include a three course buffet meal, racebook and gate entry.
