4 OLD MOTU ROAD + EAST COAST HISTORY OUR EXCLUSIVE JOURNEY + HERITAGE VENTURE & TE KAHA BEACH RESORT YEARS HISTORY & MOTU TODAY - Monday 5 th & Tue; 6 th March - (overnight) Join Rick & Kae for our very popular and exclusive Journey over the Old Motu Road. - This tour is a real trip down memory lane as we venture from The Bay of Plenty through the scenic and historical Waioeka Gorge, travelling over the Motu River & newly built bridge to arrive into Matawai. We stop and talk about the history of Matawai and chat about life in Matawai Country & Township now. We see the historic Matawai Hotel, which was once located in Motu until the Waioeka Gorge was opened in the 1930 s. Unfortunately, the Hotel has just recently closed. We leave Matawai to head for Motu, past the old stock yards, seeing the remains of the old railway line bridge to arrive into Motuhora once the end of the Gisborne rail-line to Motuhora & Motu. Hearing all the amazing history and seeing Motu countryside as it is today. Land that once was covered in large NZ native trees, before pioneers fell the bush to create the profitable farmland before developing there was not even enough grass for a horse to graze! - Stopping for lunch, seeing the local Motu school, old buildings, the village as it is today, the paddock where the Matawai Hotel once was located. see the Motu River as it thunders over the Motu Falls - the New Bike Trail. We climb out of Motu to travel along the Old Motu Road, which was once the main road out & to Gisborne before the Waioeka Gorge was opened in the 1930 s. What an unforgettable stunning trip this is - The views are memorable feel like an early pioneer who travelled The Old Motu Road by horse - traversing the saddles - through fords you will love this venture as we chat to you about the history and beauty. Stopping at Toatoa once a bustling country village where there once tearooms, plus a dairy factory, post office, school, boarding house and more. They are all long gone now Following a meandering river, we continue our journey to the summit of the Meremere Hill, to come down onto the East Coast Road. Then head for the Motu River Mouth & arrive into Te Kaha where we will be staying the night at the Te Kaha Beach Resort. Another memorable trip over an Old Heritage Trail. 6 Lake Waikaremoana, Mahia Peninsula & Gisborne 21 st to 23 rd March THE FRESH NEW LOOK AT LAKE WAIKAREMOANA! Join us for this memorable Tour. We travel through the stunning native bush clad hills of Te Urewera National Park, travelling around the Lake edge to arrive at Lake Waikaremoana Head Quarters, where we are staying the night in the freshly decorated Villas: - Lake Waikaremoana is a huge Lake in the middle of the largest tract of native forest in the North Island - is home to one of New Zealand s Great Walks and is surely a place to experience true wilderness in the North Island of New Zealand - The views are so picturesque. Lake Waikaremoana was formed 2200 years ago by a huge landslide, which blocked a narrow gorge along the Waikaretaheke River. Water backed up behind this landslide to form a lake up to 248 metres deep. In 1946 a hydroelectric development lowered the lake level by 5 metres. The area is formed from young mudstone, siltstone and sandstone, mostly about million years old. These sediments were originally part of the sea floor, but about two million years ago uplift brought them above sea level. The mountains and hills of the area have been shaped by continuous erosion. Major valleys like Aniwaniwa have been carved deeply from soft mudstones, while the more solid sandstones have tended to form ridges like Panekiri. How exciting! We enjoy a Cruise on the magnificent Lake with breath-taking panoramic views: such a spectacular place of natural beauty - we visit the site of the Old Lake Waikaremoana Hotel, plus showing you all the mystics of this unique area. Take short bush walks if you wish. View beautiful waterfalls and inspiring native bush sights we explain all the history and then travel onto Mahia Peninsula We chat about the old ship-wreck sights - sight Portland Island, including observing the Portland Island Lighthouse keepers home which has been moved to Mahia witness the site of where Moko the dolphin first swam. With our own exclusive Itinerary, you will take a step back in time to how life used to be! We will explore the Island, visit the historic & heritage sites and learn of the fascinating history shaped by years of isolation, of the Moriori s, Maori, sealers, whalers, missionaries, farmers & settlers. - Surrounded by the Ocean full of crayfish, paua and bluecod. The magnificent Chatham Islands, approximately 870 km east of the mainland, is a must-see and a very special place to visit. we have included so much Spectacular ever-changing scenery, rugged landscapes, volcanic peaks, picturesque country-side and sandy beaches. The Chatham Island locals are such genuine, friendly, welcoming people who have a strong community spirit. You will really enjoy meeting them. Visit Blind Jim s at Te Whanga Lagoon and may-even search for fossilized sharks teeth. Kaingaroa via the Ocean Mail Reserve and Torotoro Memorial - home of the Moriori Tree Carvings. Hapupu National Reserve, take a short walk (only if you wish) to the only accessible seal colony, Kaingaroa town and the site of Broughton Landing 1791 (early whaling village). We will see the Sunderland Flying Boat which is being restored. With our daily Island ticki-touring we will really appreciate the size, beauty and culture of the Chatham Islands. What a fun and memorable colourful trip this is, and this time you re invited this time to join us! The South Island by Train and coach is described as one of the World s Most Scenic Journeys. We show you and do so much. In our exciting personalised Itinerary, we start seeing the stunning Autumn colours as we drift South through central North Island and then the delightful Manawatu countryside. Stopping the night in our capital city Wellington before we cruise across the Cook Strait, through the beautiful Marlborough Sounds arriving into the South Island!! From Picton your adventure begins, we show you around Picton and onto Blenheim and its many wineries before stopping for wine tasting at one of New Zealand s big brand wines (which one is a surprise). All included. We then travel inland to see the Nelson Lakes, Mount Roberts, before passing over Lewis Pass down into Hanmer Springs. After looking around Hanmer and spending time in the pools, then onto Kaikoura where we have arranged to experience the amazing Whale Watching Venture. The next morning, we make our way to The Garden City of Christchurch, where we enjoy a City Tour of Christchurch and we get to know this South Island city well. We stay the night in Christchurch. Then we are off again taking our seats on the TranzAlpine Scenic Train to travel across the Canterbury Plains to then climb through the spectacular Southern Alps, with scenic stops along the way, descending through the famous Otira Tunnel emerging into the wilderness of the rugged West Coast arriving into Greymouth. We head down to Hokitika and then onwards for a relaxing evening stay in Franz Josef Glacier village, sighting the incredible Franz and Fox glaciers.

10 After viewing the Franz and Fox glaciers. Travelling across the Haast Pass down into the stunning colours of Wanaka, Queenstown and Arrowtown regions. We stay in Queenstown overlooking Lake Wakatipu and next morning are treated on a local guided tour of this history enriched areas. Places which have been described around the World, of exceptional colourful beauty and especially in the Autumn time. Now we are in Central Otago. Leisurely days just enjoying it all. Departing in our coach, we travel past the impressive Clyde dam, through the timeless tussock landscape & ancient mountains of Central Otago, stopping at iconic country townships. Staying the night in historic Art Deco - Ranfurly. Next morning arriving into Pukerangi to connect with our historic Taieri Gorge Railway Journey.
