Anyone arriving in Accra, Ghana without the designated safety gear and appropriate clothing (see below) will be turned back. CHECKLIST, Instructions and Recommendations 1. Prior to Departure Information Required by SEG prior to departure: Passport information: All participants must submit to SEGF their Passport information (name, number, country of issue, date of expiry) via the Medical Emergency and Travel Related Information Form, provided by SEGF. This is required for access to mine properties, and required by SEGF by Monday, January 29 th. Proof of Medical Insurance Coverage: Participants must provide to SEGF proof of medical insurance coverage valid in Ghana. Carry your insurance ID card with you at all times during the field course. Liability Waiver Form: Prior to participation in the field trip, you must sign and submit to SEGF a liability waiver form, provided by SEGF. Medical Emergency and Travel Related Information Form: Participants must complete all sections of this form, sign and date, and return with a photo copy of passport and proof of insurance (electronic versions acceptable). Visas: Ensure you have the visas required by Ghana for your nationality. Designated Safety and Field Gear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): All participants must bring the following PPE required for all mine visits there will be no opportunity to obtain these items once the field trip begins: Long pants and Long sleeved shirts Hardhat (lamp bracket optional) STEEL TOE boots NO EXCEPTIONS Safety eye protection (not sunglasses) Reflective vest Gloves 7811 Schaffer Parkway Littleton, CO 80127

2 Medications: Please bring all prescription medications and your written prescriptions carry these with you, do not place in your checked baggage. Photocopy your Passport: Carry a photocopy of your Passport with you, keep it safe and separate from your Passport. 2. Arrival, and While In Country Upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport (ACC) make your way to the baggage claim and collect your luggage. Proceed through customs and look out for the shuttle driver carrying an SEG sign. If there is no one with an SEG sign, wait outside the baggage area until the shuttle driver returns from his rounds. Participants will need money for incidental expenses. SEGF provides transportation during the course, plus lodging, lunches and some breakfasts. Although most establishments accept credit cards, you should have credit cards or cash (Ghana cedi) for meals not provided by SEGF and other incidental expenses. Participants can withdraw Ghana currency from bank ATM machines at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra, Ghana, or any ATM machines accessible during the trip. Shuttle Bus: Board the shuttle bus with signage for University of Ghana Guest House. At the University of Ghana Guest House, you will be met by Field Course Leaders Lipson and Kudzawu D'Pherdd. General Information Rael Lipson: (text is best) rael.lipson@rdlgeo.com Simon Meadows Smith simonms@sems exploration.com Raymond Kudzawu D Pherdd eforay@hotmail.com Climate: You will be travelling through the Ashanti Kwahu Region of south central Ghana close to 8 North Latitude, equal to Caracas, Venezuela, the Panama Canal, the southern portions of the Philippines and Thailand, Sri Lanka and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (northern hemisphere) and the Recife, Brazil, Trujillo, Peru, the Solomon Islands, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Luanda, Angola (southern hemisphere) at elevations ranging to 3,000 ft (900 m). The weather in Ghana will be close to one of their rainy seasons bring rain gear. The annual mean temperature ranges from 78 to 84 F (26 to 29 C) and the daily range only some 10 to 15 F (6 to 8 C) along the coast and some 13 to 30 F (7 to 17 C) in the north. Average relative humidity ranges from nearly 100 percent in the south to 65 percent in the north. Long pants and longsleeved shirts are required for mine visits NO EXCEPTIONS. Get some light colored, vented, tropical clothing. Carry sunscreen, insect repellent, lip balm, sunglasses, and a hat with a brim. Luggage: Pack lightly and use soft luggage where possible to save space in the bus. Sundries: Bring toiletries and be prepared to room with other courteous and interesting students. Page 2 of 16

3 Insect repellent: Times in the bush will be thick with insects. Please carry insect repellent at all times. Imodium (anti diarrheal): In case the food doesn t always agree with you, it is wise to carry some tablets for gastro intestinal distress. Time Zone: GMT/UTC +0 Mobile phone use: Travelers from outside the Ghana should avoid expensive roaming charges. Most carriers offer limited duration International call packages allowing affordable calling and text messaging to your home country while travelling overseas. Check with your provider before departure, and make sure your device will operate in Ghana. Purchase your coverage before arrival. Ghana country code is Electrical: Ghana uses mainly the British type AC sockets (see images), although both the French type as well as the South African types (see image below) are found on occasion. Try and bring a variety and extension cords. WiFi will often be available. Page 3 of 16
