Overlooked by Table Mountain and bordered by the Atlantic, Cape Town is one of the world's most picturesque cities. Before we leave, we take a tour of the Cape Flats, one of the city s intriguing townships, where we visit some of the local people and community projects in the area. Afterwards, we head north through South Africa's Western Cape and through the fruit-growing regions of Citrusdal to our campsite near the Olifants River. Settling in to our campsite, we ll get properly acquainted with the rest of the group, indulge in the option to sample some of the local wines of the region, and enjoy our first night under the huge African sky. -Cape Town township tour -Wine tasting Day 2 - Western Cape Citrus Area to Gariep (Orange) River Continuing north, the landscape gradually turns drier and rockier as we head towards the Namibian border. We set up camp tonight on the South African side of the Gariep (Orange) River, which makes for a stunning backdrop. Our site provides you with the necessary comforts like hot showers, flush toilets, grassy floors and even a bar (hello, sundowners!). Take the option to explore the Gariep (Orange) River on a canoe safari, take a dip in the safe swimming waters, or hike to the lookout above the campsite. The camp by night is illuminated by the stars of the Richtersveld, making for a wonderfully tranquil experience.

Day 3 - Gariep (Orange) River to Fish River Canyon This morning we take an optional canoe safari on the river (if we didn t get the chance the previous evening) or simply relax on the water s edge, before entering Namibia via Vooilsdrift Border post and arriving at the awesome Fish River Canyon by mid-afternoon. One of the natural wonders of Africa, the canyon is some 500 metres deep and over 160 kilometres long, and considered the second largest in the world after the Grand Canyon. Prop your camera lens for amazing photos this afternoon, especially when the sun begins to set over the sharp bend in the river known as Hell s Corner. Trust us, it s nicer than its name implies. -Canoe safari Day 4 - Fish River Canyon to Namib Naukluft National Park After a night near the canyon we continue north until we reach Sesriem, the gateway to the Namib Naukluft National Park, containing the world s oldest and highest desert sand dunes. The Namib-Naukluft National Park contains part of the Namib Desert and the Naukluft mountain range. With an overall area of 49,768 square kilometres, it s larger than Switzerland, is the second largest game park in Africa and the fourth largest in the world. Here we set up camp for the evening under the starry Namibian sky. Day 5 - Namib Naukluft National Park to Solitaire This morning we enter the National Park to trek to the top of famous Dune 45 and marvel at the majestic open desert. A spectacular sight but be warned, it s an energy sapping climb to the top as some dunes are over 300 metres high! After a well-deserved breakfast, we continue deeper into the park for an optional nature walk in Sossusvlei, amidst Namibia s unspoilt natural environment. Be sure to bring your camera the shifting colours of the desert as the sun climbs throughout the morning offer some brilliant photo opportunities. Departing from the dunes, we make our way to Solitaire and our accommodation for the night. -Dune 45, Sossusvlei shuttle and guided walk -Sesriem Canyon

Day 6 - Solitaire to Swakopmund Leaving Solitaire, we head for the Atlantic coast for two nights, crossing over the Tropic of Capricorn, and stopping for a photo opportunity en route. Swakopmund makes for a refreshing change with cooler Atlantic sea air, a taste of civilisation and a swathe of exciting adventure options. -Sandboarding -Quad biking -Skydiving -Deep sea fishing -Scenic flights -Swakopmund township tour Day 7 - Swakopmund A small town redolent of Namibia's colonial past but with modern adventure oriented attractions for the visitor, Swakopmund is Namibia's main seaside resort, sandwiched neatly between the desert and the ocean a delightful coastal oasis. Try some desert-based optional activities, such as quad biking, sand boarding, skydiving (weather permitting) and more. For those not that way inclined, peruse the town s many shops, restaurants, museums and art galleries or simply stroll along the promenade admiring the ocean. -Sandboarding -Quad biking -Skydiving -Deep sea fishing -Scenic flight -Swakopmund township tour Day 8 - Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe Leaving the coast we turn inland to the beautiful Damaraland region and stop at Spitzkoppe to admire ancient bushman paintings still visible on peculiar rock formations. The rock formations peak at approximately 2000 metres above sea level and form a spectacular view, with one of the most impressive being the 'Bushman Paradise'. Take your time to explore the area and enjoy its delightful calmness and keep an eye on the ever changing colour of the rocks, especially during sunrise and sunset. -Spitzkoppe Bushman paintings

Day 9 - Spitzkoppe to Etosha National Park We make our way north to Etosha National Park, a vast reserve of over 20,000 square kilometres surrounding a central salt depression or pan. The pan is seasonally full of water but specially managed waterholes sustain some 114 mammal and 340 bird species. Pitching our tents near a floodlit waterhole, we embark on a short afternoon game drive upon arrival. As dusk falls, keep your eyes peeled for a range of nocturnal visitors including elephant, giraffe, zebra, hyena and even lion, making it one of the most memorable wildlife encounters in Namibia. -Etosha National Park game drive Day 10 - Etosha National Park Etosha National Park is the ultimate definition of the perfect game-viewing destination. Picture this: a barren landscape teeming with neon flamingos and pelicans and surrounded by nothing but native bush, grasslands, scrubland and saline lakes. Trust us, you'll be in awe of this magical spot. Today we dive straight into the heart of Etosha National Park and enjoy a full day game drive, keeping a keen watch for more of the local residents. -Etosha National Park game drive Day 11 - Etosha National Park to Windhoek Departing epic Etosha, we head south to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, which is located in a basin between the Khomas Highland, Auas and Eros Mountains. Windhoek is home to approximately two hundred thousand people an extremely small capital by global standards. The city centre is characterised by a proliferation of German-style buildings, a lasting reminder of Namibia's early colonial history and atmosphere. Take the opportunity to enjoy a night out at one of the local restaurants or visit the famous 'Joe s Beer House'. Day 12 - Windhoek to Ghanzi Leaving Windhoek we travel west into the Kalahari region and cross into Botswana. Our first stop is at the town of Ghanzi. Here, in the midst

of this (seemingly) barren terrain we meet the San Bushman and embark on a guided bush walk. Discover how the fascinating locals harness nature and manage the resources around them to their maximum, without damaging the fragile balance found in this ecosystem. Your support of this ecotourism venture gives the San Bushman a sustainable income and helps keep their culture alive. Around the campfire, marvel at the ancient dance rituals of the San Bushman as they demonstrate a healing or trance dance, which can be an intensely spiritual experience for both participants and visitors alike. -Kalahari Bushman walk -Traditional dancing Day 13 - Ghanzi to Maun Gateway to the Okavango Delta, Maun is the fifth largest town in Botswana and is an eclectic mix of modern buildings and native huts. Since Maun's founding in 1915 it has had a reputation as a hard-living, wild-west sort of town, built to supply local cattle ranching and hunting operations. Today, Maun is a thriving tourist hub and is particularly infamous for its influx of donkeys (and to a lesser extent, goats), which are used by local traders and farmers alike to transport their wares to sell on the roadside. -Okavango Delta scenic flight Day 14 - Maun to Okavango Delta

Leaving the campsite in Maun we begin our excursion into the Okavango Delta by an open 4x4 truck to the mokoro station, where we'll be introduced to the local Tswana Polers who will be guiding us on the expedition. We travel by mokoro (dugout canoe) amongst the giant lily pads, tall grasses and labyrinthine channels in search of hippo, crocodile and a variety of bird to our island tented camp, before exploring the area on a walking safari. The Okavango is a natural wetland spreading over some 1,600,000 hectares of northern Botswana. The Okavango River rises in Angola (further to the north) and flows south, dividing repeatedly after crossing into Botswana, to form an intricate floodplain of channels, which spread out into a broad flat inland delta the only one of its kind in the world. -Okavango Delta excursion with mokoro/walking safari Day 15 - Okavango Delta to Maun Leaving the Okavango Delta, we begin an easy-paced mokoro ride back to the station, then back to Maun. Spend the rest of the time here on your own watch, taking in the natural scenery from camp, or by setting out on a number of optional activities. -Okavango Delta excursion with mokoro Day 16 - Maun to Elephant Sands Next up, we roll onto Elephant Sands a bush lodge and campsite in the northeast part of Botswana where majestic elephants meander at the natural waterhole right in front of the lodge. As there are no fences, the wildlife roams freely from one waterhole to the next so expect to see any number of species during your stay. Observing wild elephants at such close proximity will easily be one of the most amazing experiences you ll have in Africa. -Morning bush walk -Evening game drive Day 17 - Elephant Sands to Chobe National Park Today we make our way to Kasane in the northeast corner of Botswana and the gateway to the wonderful Chobe National Park. By size, Chobe is the third largest game park in the country and home to the largest diversity of wildlife, including elephant, lion, buffalo, hippo and

abundance of birdlife the most famous of the latter being the African Fish Eagle. We take our own Fish Eagle cruise on the Chobe River, which is a great opportunity to see hippo and, perhaps elephant or buffalo, coming to the river to bathe and drink. Cameras, at the ready! -Fish Eagle boat cruise Day 18 - Chobe National Park to Livingstone Moving on from Kasane we take the ferry across the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers into Zambia. The Zambezi River is the fourth longest in Africa (after the Nile, Congo and Niger) and the largest flowing into the Indian Ocean. Home to one of the world's largest waterfalls, we visit Victoria Falls and try to take in the immensity of one of nature's Wonders of the World. At various times of year, the spray from the Falls can be seen from up to 20 or 30 kilometres away, hence the local name 'Mosi au Tunya' the 'smoke that thunders'. Hint: pack a raincoat to protect your precious camera equipment! -Chobe National Park game drive -Mosi oa Tunya - Victoria Falls -Victoria falls bungee -Mosi oa Tunya National Park game walk -Chief Mukumi Village tour -Gorge swing -Zambezi jetboating -Half day canoe safari -Zambezi sunset cruise -White water rafting -Helicopter ride -Fishing -Bridge tour -Full day abseil Day 19 - Livingstone Welcome to our picturesque Livingstone campsite, perfectly placed on the doorstep of the Mosi au Tunya National Park. 10 Today we make tracks for Zambia's urban metropolis city, Lusaka. A commercial hub and centre for the government, Lusaka is home to dusty tree-lined streets, soviet looking buildings and bustling local markets that ooze African flair. Our campsite for the evening is set in a tranquil and relaxing spot on a farm, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Day 22 - Lusaka to Chipata We leave early and take the Great Eastern Road through lush countryside and small villages, crossing the Luangwa River to Chipata. Formerly named Fort Jamerson, Chipata has a population of approximately 100,000 and is the capital of the Eastern Province of Zambia. This unique town has colourful fruit and vegetable markets and a surprising amount of ornate mosques due to its large Indian community. If time allows, we will stop in Chipata before continuing to our campsite to overnight. Day 23 - Chipata to South Luangwa National Park Today we swap Chipata for the remarkable South Luangwa National Park. This area of outstanding natural beauty is rightly known as one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. The concentration of animals around the Luangwa River, and its oxbow lagoons, is among the most intense in Africa. On arrival we set up camp and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the many activities on offer, from walking safaris, night game drives and village walks. -Village tour -Walking safari -Game drive Day 24 - South Luangwa National Park What better way to start the day than with a morning game drive along the river s edge to see the abundance of animal and birdlife inhabiting the area? After the game drive, take advantage of The Warthogs Bar and swimming pool (which is the best place to cool off during the hot hours of the day) and the many activities on offer that you may have missed the day before. -South Luangwa National Park game drive

Day 25 - South Luangwa National Park to Malawi Beach Leaving Zambia behind, we cross the border to Malawi stopping at the capital, Lilongwe, before taking the eastern road to Lake Malawi. Formally known as Lake Nyasa, Lake Malawi covers almost a fifth of the country s area and provides the livelihood for many of the Malawi people. Fishermen, fish traders, canoe and net makers all ply their trade on its shores, so expect to see fisherman in their Bwato, (dugout canoe made from hollowed out tree trunk) fishing on the lake at the break of day. We arrive at camp on the lake s shore in the afternoon and have the rest of the day to swim and explore the beach and surrounding area. -Horse riding -Village walk Day 26 - Malawi Beach While here, try some of the water sports typically available, go horse riding or just relax by the lakeside and go for a dip in its warm waters anytime the need arises. It s also worth taking the time out to get to know some of the locals, often regarded as amongst the friendliest in Africa, to gain an insight into their way of life. Please note: Although we do our best to adhere to the campsites described in this itinerary, the crew may need to make some alterations to the itinerary published here. -Horse riding -Village walk Day 27 - Malawi Beach to Lake Malawi We take a scenic drive through rubber plantations to Mzuzu, the capital of the northern region and the third largest town in Malawi, where we stop for a short while to grab supplies and check out the markets before arriving at Chitimba Beach for the next two nights.

Day 28 - Lake Malawi Enjoy time on the beach or shop at a large curios market, where you can test your bargaining skills and buy some of Malawi s famous ornate and carved chairs. Alternatively, take an optional hike to Manchewe Falls or embark on the Chihanga walk with a local guide. These trails are beautifully serene, but can take up to 10 hours so be sure to rest up beforehand! -Livingstone day hike Day 29 - Lake Malawi to Iringa Leaving Chitimba Beach, we travel the short distance north to cross the border into Tanzania. We steadily climb through Tanzania s Southern Highlands all the way to Kisolanza Farm House. This farm is at an altitude of 1,600 metres, ensuring a pleasantly fresh climate in one of the most scenic areas of Tanzania. Home to the Ghaui family for over 70 years, Kisolanza remains a working farm, which provides organic meat (beef, lamb and chicken) and vegetables to the surrounding markets as well as further afield in Dar es Salaam. The farmhouse is famous for its hot showers, chocolate brownies and hot chocolate that can be bought from a quaint, candlelit bar. Note: time to indulge! Day 30 - Iringa to Dar es Salaam Continuing east towards the Indian Ocean and the port city of Dar es Salaam, our route runs through the Mikumi National Park and, with luck, we may spot forest elephant or giraffe feeding near the side of the road. 'Dar' is Tanzania's hub of commerce and industry, and is a hot, humid and bustling seaport city of high rises, colourful markets and Arabesque architecture. We set up camp at our site on the beach just outside of the city centre, usually having time to browse the local markets (best known for its ebony wood carvings) and prepare for our own trip to Zanzibar. Day 31 - Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Today we ferry across to the magical 'Spice Island' of Zanzibar to spend three blissful nights. Discover the island s idyllic, palm-fringed beaches, winding cobbled alleys and lush tropical forests, as well as its intriguing history as a major trading centre for spices. For centuries, Zanzibaris would trade with the people of the Arabian Peninsula and ply the ocean in simple dhow sailboats, relying on the annual trade winds for passage. The Arab influence is evident in the architecture and diverse street stall offerings of the capital, Stone Town, so keep your eyes peeled when wandering the city s historic pathways. The next four days are on your own watch, so spend your time exploring at your own pace.

Please note: As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic safari lodge/hotel accommodation and breakfast on Zanzibar is included. However, lunches and dinners are your own to arrange. We usually divide our nights here between accommodation in Stone Town and accommodation on one of the northern beaches, but there are no set activities the time is entirely yours to do as you please. -Ferry to Zanzibar -Spice tour -Visit the former slave market site -Arabic Fort -Palace Museum Day 32 - Zanzibar Don your comfiest walking attire and set out to explore Stone Town on foot. Get lost in the labyrinth of laneways at the bazaars, and marvel at the array of ancient maritime trinkets, vibrant fabrics and ornate wooden carvings. Be sure to pay a visit to the city s mosques, palaces, courtyards and alleyways for a living history lesson of this fascinating island. -Spice tour -Scuba diving -Mnemba Island -Dhow snorkeling safari -Massage Day 33 - Zanzibar Awake to another day in this dreamlike haven. If it's white sand, a sparkling ocean and hot sun you're after, head to the northern beaches and enjoy the Indian Ocean at its best. Try your hand at snorkelling and diving, indulge in some sumptuous seafood, or simply relax beneath a coconut palm with a cocktail and a good book. -Spice tour -Scuba diving -Mnemba Island -Dhow snorkeling safari -Massage

Day 34 - Zanzibar Variety is the spice of life, and on Zanzibar island, spices are abundant. Embark on a day tour to the nearby spice plantations and have your senses dazzled by the tastes and scents that infiltrate the air. -Spice tour -Scuba diving -Mnemba Island -Dhow snorkeling safari -Massage Day 35 - Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam Time to farewell this picture-perfect paradise. Sneak in some last-minute shopping or relish one last dip, before catching the ferry back to Dar on the African mainland. -Ferry to Dar Es Salaam Day 36 - Dar es Salaam to Marangu Departing early from Dar, we head north past the Usambara and Pare Mountains in the Eastern Arc Mountain Range to Marangu, nestled at the base of the famed Kilimanjaro. The camp takes its name from the surrounding area Marangu means full of water in the local Chagga language, and the lush green surroundings demonstrate the truth of this. If weather is clear we will gain a view of the magnificent snowcapped Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa s highest mountain. Day 37 - Marangu to Arusha We drive past the town of Moshi and eventually reach Arusha, a city situated exactly midway between Cape Town and Cairo. This is Tanzania s safari capital, and a veritable melting pot of markets, vehicles and people, all nestling in the shadow of the brooding Mount Meru. This afternoon we enjoy a walk to one of the local Masai villages, a local school and clinic, a small but highly interesting Masai museum, and the snake enclosure at the Meserani Snake Park. It is from here that we prepare for our two night/three day excursion to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.

-Maasai Village walk -Camel ride Day 38 - Arusha to Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater This morning calls for a vehicle change-up. We hit the road in a more game park-friendly option and drive west across the Great Rift Valley, entering the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. Just try not to drop your jaw as we pass into the park and cruise around the crater rim and down onto the Serengeti plains (we bet you can t). Lush and green after the rains and a burnt hue in the dry, this spectacular landscape is home to an enormous variety of grazing animals, predators and birdlife. Flatter and larger than the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti is simply huge indeed the name derives from the Maasai word Siringitu ( the place where the land moves on forever ). We drive to our designated (but unfenced) campsite for the evening for an unforgettable experience. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion Day 39 - Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater Spend the morning game-driving out of the plains, and then ascend the outer wall of the Ngorongoro Crater (after a well-deserved lunch, of course). Pack your warmest jacket, as tonight we camp on the rim of the crater where wildlife also gallivant. At 326 square kilometres in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is Africa s largest intact caldera and a World Heritage Site. If the view from the rim at 2,400 metres above sea level is spectacular, the site from the crater floor some 600 metres below, will be equally mind-blowing. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion -Serengeti balloon flight Day 40 - Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha On the final day of the excursion we descend down the steep, dirt road of the Ngorongoro Crater for a morning of game driving. Keep your

eye out for all the major mammals except the towering giraffes, which struggle to manage the steep slopes leading down onto the crater floor. After our game drive, we ascend to our campsite on the rim for a final view over the Ngorongoro Crater, and then pack up our camp and enjoy lunch before retracing our steps to our campsite in Arusha. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion Day 41 - Arusha to Nairobi After our last night at camp in Tanzania, we make our way across the Masai Steppe to the Kenyan frontier. Completing formalities at Namanga border post, we drive the last stretch of road to Nairobi, Kenya s capital. Day 42 - Nairobi Hit the pavement and explore Nairobi s endless shopping, markets, bars, restaurants and unique café culture. If you re still stuck for ideas, your Trip Leader will be more than willing to help you arrange optional local excursions in and around the city including a visit to the National Museum of Kenya, a safari at Nairobi National Park, or an afternoon at the Karen Blixen Museum in the nearby town of Karen. Optional Activities: -Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage -Giraffe Centre -Karen Blixen Museum Day 43 - Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park Rise early to depart Nairobi for the 'Great Rift Valley', an enormous cleft in the Earth's surface stretching from the Red Sea to Madagascar (but with particularly marked escarpments here in Kenya). Have your camera at the ready these views are something to write home about. Later, we stop at our camp near Lake Nakuru National Park, a relatively small park (by African standards) but with an abundant of wildlife thanks to its location on the Great Rift Valley floor. This afternoon will provide a delightful introduction to East Africa's wildlife diversity thanks to an afternoon game drive making use of local guides and smaller safari vehicles for a more intimate experience. -Great Rift Valley -Lake Nakuru National Park game drive

Day 44 - Lake Nakuru National Park to Eldoret From Nakuru we continue northwest and climb in altitude towards the town of Eldoret en route to the Ugandan frontier. Brush up on your geology knowledge by learning about the significance of the Equator as we cross it today from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern. Read also: unique photo opportunities. Finally, we reach Eldoret; it s name based on the Maasai word Eldore meaning stony river, due to the stony bed of the nearby Sosiani River. Once we reach our fabulous campsite, sip on a sun downer around the warmth of an open log fire and marvel at the idyllic setting of waterfalls, streams and wooden bridges. Day 45 - Eldoret to Kampala Described by Winston Churchill as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is a country with beautiful natural scenery and a rich mosaic of tribes and cultures. Travelling through Uganda, you ll be captivated by its sheer beauty and the friendliness of the local people. Tonight we camp in the capital, Kampala, which is an attractive hilly city bustling with roadside traders, markets and busy matatu (minibus taxi) stands. Day 46 - Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park From Kampala, we travel west towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, once more over the Equator and through fertile, green-terraced hillsides, lush banana plantations and tangled forests. Keep your eyes peeled for the herds of Ankole cattle, with their incredible long, curved horns, roaming the roads and paddocks. Setting up camp just a short distance from the Queen Elizabeth National Park, you ll have the chance to kick back and unwind, take a walk in the surrounding areas and mingle with the community, local style. -Queen Elizabeth National Park chimpanzee trekking on either day 46 or 47 Day 47 - Queen Elizabeth National Park This morning we enter the Queen Elizabeth National Park and take in the magnificent views of the mountains that separate Uganda from central Africa, as well as Lakes Edwards and George. Queen Elizabeth National park has over 500 species of bird and 100 species of

mammals, making it one of the most bio-diverse national parks in the world. Nearby, we visit the Kyambura Gorge for an exciting trek to see the chimpanzees. On departing the National Park, we make our way to the stunning Lake Bunyonyi the perfect place to unwind, relax and explore (on the days that we don't trek to see the mountain gorillas, of course). -Queen Elizabeth National Park chimpanzee trekking on either day 46 or 47 Day 48 - Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi Over the next three days, you and your adventure buddies will be split into two groups. On the first day, one group will trek to witness the amazing mountain gorillas up close, while the others have a free day of chilling out on the lake. Then the next day, the groups swap. On the day of our trek, we gather in the early morning to meet our local guide and tracker. The area that we explore is home to the world's remaining 700 mountain gorillas, many of which inhabit the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (please note that occasionally we may need to travel into neighbouring Rwanda to see the gorillas). The trek into the thick rainforest can be demanding at times, with uneven terrain and hilly rainforest, but the privilege of spending time with a family of these gentle primates makes the effort more than well worthwhile. Please note: Depending on the availability of the chimpanzee and gorilla permits, the tour itinerary may vary from the brochure itinerary. From time to time, we may have to trek on different days. If at any time our gorilla trek should be in another neighbouring country, i.e Rwanda (instead of Uganda) this may entail extra visa fees, although we shall endeavour to advise you before departure of any significant changes to the tour itinerary. Please take the above itinerary as a guideline only. -Island boat trips -Village walk -Traditional dancing -Bird watching -Canoe hire Day 49 - Lake Bunyonyi If you re not on today s trek, take advantage of your free time by the lake with an abundance of boredom-killer activities. Hire canoes and swing by some of the islands, wander the local tribes and villages, visit the local orphanage, and channel your inner explorer with a nature walk. Alternatively, kick your feet up at camp and catch up on the diary or postcards back home. -Gorilla trekking on either day 49 or day 50

-Island boat trips -Village walk -Traditional dancing -Bird watching -Canoe hire Day 50 - Lake Bunyonyi For those with a free day, spend your time swanning around the campsite, canoe the lake s peaceful waters or discover why the stunning area is known as the place of many birds with a spot of bird watching. Today s on your watch, so spend it as you see fit. -Gorilla trekking on either day 49 or day 50 -Island boat trips -Village walk -Traditional dancing -Bird watching -Canoe hire Day 51 - Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala Leaving Lake Bunyonyi, we make our way back across the Equator, through lush pasture lands and the northern reaches of Africa s largest lake, Lake Victoria, to Kampala. A hotspot for great food and entertainment, Kampala is the perfect place for our overnight stay. Take the night to enjoy the hospitality of the local Ugandans, before resting your head and getting in some much-needed zzz s. Day 52 - Kampala to Jinja After we farewell the capital, we venture a short distance to Jinja where our camp on the grassy banks of the River Nile awaits. It was in 1862 that the British explorer John Hanning Speke recognised Lake Victoria as the source of the Nile, settling a long running dispute about Africa s (and the world s) longest river. From this modest monument, the Nile begins its 6,610km journey through Uganda, Sudan and eventually Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea.

-Bungee jumping -Quad biking -White water rafting -Community school project -Nile cruise -Nile stand up paddleboarding -Kayaking -Fishing trips -Mountain biking Day 53 - Jinja Since our camp in Jinja overlooks a dramatic set of rapids (known as Bujagali Falls), it s no surprise the region is somewhat of an adrenaline playground. Please note: Trips staying in Spitzkoppe and Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater will not be accommodated and two-person dome tents with a mattress and sleeping bag will be provided for these locations. Campsites Campsites you will stay in vary considerably. The general standard in East Africa is modest, although most have reasonable toilet and shower facilities. In southern Africa, the standard is usually somewhat higher. Occasionally we may camp out in the bush (with limited or no facilities). In addition to meal assistance, there are other odd jobs you will be expected to undertake as part of any trip in Africa. We ask that you get involved in collecting firewood, lighting fires, filling water tanks, loading luggage, keeping the truck clean and even helping with the dishes.

Lending a hand has never been so much fun, trust us. Optional Activities On all trips we have arranged extra activities that we think will enhance your travel experience, but you have a choice as to whether or not you will participate. These are not included in the cost of your trip. They are usually organised on a group participation basis and should be taken into consideration when budgeting your spending money. None of the Optional Activities on your trip are operated by Topdeck, nor do they form part of your contract with Topdeck for your trip. Topdeck arranges the activity as an agent of the local supplier. Should you participate in any Optional Activities your contract will be with the local supplier and their conditions will apply. Please note: while we make every effort to keep these prices as accurate and up-to-date as possible, they are subject to change and in rare circumstances the actual price may vary slightly to what is published here. While on the road, you will be provided with three meals a day unless otherwise stated. African overland trips are participation based, which means you will be expected to do your bit for the team by helping with purchasing, cooking and cleaning-up duties. In some places, we will be able to go out for a meal.if you have any dietary requirements we will make every effort to cater to your specific needs, as long as you advise your travel agent or Topdeck Trip Consultant when you book. Please be

aware that it may not be possible to cater for every single dietary requirement, but we will always try our best to arrange it. No Tip Necessary Your Topdeck crew never expect tips themselves and will not ask for any; that s not what friends do! We also know how much tipping can cost you. So go ahead, spoil yourself with the money you will save by travelling with Topdeck (just don t forget Mum s souvenir). Topdeck Travel App Our travel app has landed! With a range of awesome features including a Currency Converter, Budget Tracker, Check-In tool and Social Timeline you can plan your trip like a pro. Think of it like your very own Topdeck Trip Leader, always on call with the latest info, weather, maps and city guides to give you the trip of a lifetime, all in the palm of your hand. Please note: The Topdeck Travel App should only be downloaded once you have booked onto your trip. You will not be able to log in unless you have a Topdeck Booking Reference Number. Get it for iphone Get it for Android Passenger safety One of the best parts of travelling is experiencing the nightlife and entertainment each city has to offer. However, amidst the fun and excitement, it s important to be aware of your surroundings and personal safety as well. Before you hit the road with us, it s important to be aware of the following: When you re on a night out, remember to avoid walking alone, particularly through deserted areas like beaches and back streets. Always stick together, take a taxi where possible, and keep a note of your accommodation details so you can find your way back to your fellow Topdeckers if you become separated. In some countries, alcoholic measures can be considerably larger than what you may be used to. Try to keep track of what you re drinking, and if you see one of your trip mates looking a little worse for wear, take them back to your accommodation. Be cautious when accepting drinks from strangers and never leave your drink unattended. It s also important to be aware that what you might consider harmless flirting may be interpreted differently in some countries. Be yourself and have fun, but don t be naïve, and be mindful of the signals you are sending out so that you don t find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
