2 Trip Itinerary Day 1 - Nairobi, Kenya to Maasai Mara National Reserve Ready to start your adventure? Travelling in small, specialised safari vehicles, we make our way across the Great Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara National Reserve, enjoying views of the vast vista en route. Prepare for two nights of camping on the edge of the reserve, with plenty of time to explore the park and meet the locals on morning and afternoon game drives. The 'Mara' is crossed every year between July and October by great herds of wildebeest, zebra and other grazing animals in their migration from the adjoining Serengeti plains to the south (in Tanzania). During our stay, we hope to see some, if not all, of Africa's Big Five (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard) and an array of other wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled! -Masai Mara National Reserve excursion Day 2 - Maasai Mara National Reserve Start the day right with an eye-opening morning game drive, where we'll be on the constant look out for the famous Big Five. Think: elephants, rhinos, buffalos, lions and leopards. In between our morning and afternoon game drives we have plenty of time to relax and soak up the top-notch panoramic views that this outstanding area of natural beauty brings to the table. Note to self: pack camera. -Masai Mara National Reserve excursion Day 3 - Maasai Mara National Reserve to Nairobi Leaving the incredible natural wonderland of the Masai Mara behind us, we make tracks and head back to the chaotic Kenyan city of Nairobi where we stay overnight. Day 4 - Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania After crossing the border into Tanzania at the busy Namanga frontier we arrive at our destination, Arusha, in the late afternoon. Situated midway between Cape Town and Cairo, this is very much Tanzania s safari capital as well as a bustling city of colourful markets, shops,

3 vehicles and people, all nestling in the shadow of the brooding Mt Meru. After exploring the markets, we head to our camp just outside Arusha on the open plains to the west of the city, where we prepare for our two-night, three-day included excursion to the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. -Masai Village walk Day 5 - Arusha to Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater This morning we ll change up our vehicles for a more game park-friendly option and drive west across the Great Rift Valley, passing through Mto Wa Mbo ('mosquito creek'), before entering the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. Passing into the park, we ll drive around the crater rim and down onto the Serengeti plains, which is home to an enormous variety of grazing animals, predators, and birdlife. Flatter and larger than the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti certainly lives up to its namesake: the place where the land moves on forever'. We drive to our designated (but unfenced) campsite for the evening where lion and hyena roam nearby, making for an unforgettable experience. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion Day 6 - Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater Rise and shine! This morning we head out on a game-drive beyond the plains, and then ascend the outer wall of the Ngorongoro Crater, postlunch. The night is spent camping on the rim of the crater (read: pack your warmest jacket), which at 326 square kilometres, is Africa s largest intact caldera. If the view from the rim at 2,400 metres above sea level is spectacular, you can be sure the crater floor some 600 metres below, is equally spectacular. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion -Serengeti Balloon Flight

4 Day 7 - Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater On the final day of the excursion, we descend down the steep dirt road of the Ngorongoro Crater for a morning of game driving (and wildlife spotting!). After our game drive we ascend to our campsite on the rim for a final view over the Ngorongoro Crater, pack up our camp and enjoy a bite to eat before retracing our steps to our campsite at Arusha. -Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater excursion Day 8 - Serengeti National Park & Ngorongoro Crater to Bagamoyo This morning we cruise through the local Maasai villages and enjoy an insight into the everyday life and traditions of this colourful culture, before heading to the Bagamoyo area. If we re lucky with the weather, we might even be treated to the view of a magnificent snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa s highest peak, on our way. Day 9 - Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam Leaving our camp at Bagamoyo we make our way south to Dar es Salaam and the Indian Ocean. Dar is Tanzania s main port and is a hub of commerce and industry. It is a hot, humid and bustling seaport city of high rises, colourful markets and Arab influenced architecture on the coast accessing one of the most important sea routes in the world. To the majority of travellers, this city is the port of call to the more exotic and relaxed island of Zanzibar and other islands. We set up camp on the beach just outside of the city, take in the balmy Indian Ocean sea breeze, and prepare for our own trip to Zanzibar. Day 10 - Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Wonderfully exotic and perfectly placed, Zanzibar boasts idyllic, palm-fringed beaches, romantic winding alleys and lush tropical forests. The base of the great 19th century explorers such as John Hanning Speke, Richard Burton and David Livingstone, Zanzibar was once was a major trading centre of spices not surprising, really, when you wander the streets and detect the intoxicating scent of spices in the air. Our time on the island is completely footloose and fancy-free, so spend your days as you wish. Please note: As we leave the truck on the mainland, basic safari lodge/hotel accommodation and breakfast on Zanzibar is included. However, lunches and dinners are your own to arrange. We usually divide our nights here between accommodation in Stone Town and accommodation on one of the northern beaches, but there are no set activities the time is entirely yours to do as you please.

5 -Ferry to Zanzibar -Spice tour -Visit the old slave markets -Arabic Fort -Palace Museum Day 11 - Zanzibar If it's white sand, sparkling ocean and hot sun you're after, head to the northern beaches and enjoy the Indian Ocean at its best. Feeling adventurous? Try a spot of snorkelling and diving. For those wanting to stay on dry land, indulge in some sumptuous seafood or simply relax beneath a coconut palm with a cocktail and a good book. #Bliss. -Spice tour -Scuba diving -Mnemba Island -Dhow snorkeling safari -Massage Day 12 - Zanzibar Don your comfiest walking shoes and head out on foot to explore intriguing Stone Town. Peruse the bazaars for old maritime trinkets, vibrant fabrics and ornate wooden carvings, and then visit the city s mosques, palaces, courtyards and alleyways for a living history lesson of this fascinating island. -Spice tour -Scuba diving -Mnemba Island -Dhow snorkelling safari -Massage Day 13 - Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam It s our final day in paradise! Soak up your tears with a bountiful breakfast, before making the most of your incredible surrounds with a splash in the turquoise water. Time to send your last few Snapchats before ferrying back to Dar es Salaam.

6 -Ferry to Dar Es Salaam Day 14 - Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park Leaving the bustling city and warm Atlantic coast we drive inland through the Mikumi National Park and we may, with luck, spot forest elephant or giraffe feeding near the side of the road. Our campsite is located a stone s throw from the park, where we ll have the chance to sip sundowners at the local bar, followed by an evening around the open fire under the blanket of stars. If time allows, a game drive in the late afternoon will satisfy your appetite for a spot of animal viewing. -Mikumi Game Drive Day 15 - Mikumi National Park to Iringa After a scrumptious breakfast we depart for Iringa and Kisolanza Farm, which is at an altitude of 1600 metres, ensuring a pleasant climate in what is one of the most scenic areas in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. Home to the Ghaui family for over 70 years, Kisolanza remains a working farm, which provides organic meat (beef, lamb and chicken) and vegetables to the surrounding markets. This farmhouse is famous for their amazing hot showers, chocolate brownies and hot chocolate; and of course Amarula, which can be bought at their quaint candlelit bar. Day 16 - Iringa to Lake Malawi, Malawi After our last night in Tanzania, we head through lush mountain passes, rich grazing land and both banana and tea plantations on the way to Songwe, the border post into Malawi. For the next two nights we will stay at the Chitimba Beach campsite on scenic Lake Malawi. Day 17 - Lake Malawi Enjoy time on the beach or shop at a large curios market, where you can test your bargaining skills and buy some of Malawi s famous ornate and carved chairs. Alternatively hike to Manchewe Falls, or go on the Chihanga walk with a local guide. These trails are beautifully serene, but

7 can take up to 10 hours. -Livingstone day hike Day 18 - Lake Malawi Enjoy time on the beach or shop at a large curios market, where you can test your bargaining skills and buy some of Malawi s famous ornate and carved chairs. Alternatively, hike to Manchewe Falls, or embark on the Chihanga walk with a local guide. These trails are beautifully serene, but can take up to ten hours so be sure to get plenty of rest beforehand! -Horse riding -Village walk Day 19 - Malawi Beach After a relaxing morning we take a scenic drive to Mzuzu, the capital of the northern region and the third largest town in Malawi. Here, we ll stop for a short while to grab supplies and check out the markets before arriving at Kande Beach (also on Lake Malawi), where we stay two more nights. Please note: Although we do our best to adhere to the campsites described in this itinerary, the crew may need to make some alterations to the itinerary published here. -Horse riding -Village walk Day 20 - Malawi Beach to Chipata, Zambia Upon leaving the lake we head for the capital Lilongwe to gather supplies for our onward journey into Zambia which means a good chance to spend the last of your Malawi kwacha before we leave. Chipata, formally named Fort Jamerson, is the capital of the Eastern Province of Zambia and is a colourful town with a number of fruit and vegetable markets and ornate mosques, thanks to its large Indian community. If time allows, we ll make a stop in town before arriving to our campsite, situated a short distance from the town centre.

8 Day 21 - Chipata to Lusaka Today we leave early and take the Great Eastern Road through lush country and small villages, crossing the Luangwa River to Lusaka, Zambia s capital. Lusaka is southern Africa s fastest-growing city, and is located on the southern plateau at an elevation of 1,300 metres with four main highways running north, south, east and west to different parts of Africa. Enjoy the peace and quiet at our campsite, which is situated on a farm outside of the hustle and bustle, and be sure to keep watch for the zebras, ostriches, giraffes and antelopes roaming freely around the outskirts of the main camping area. Day 22 - Lusaka to Livingstone Next up, we head south to Livingstone, our gateway to the majestic Victoria Falls and the continent's adrenalin capital. Setting up camp on the banks of the Zambezi, just a few kilometres from the Falls, you ll have the chance to marvel at the sheer force of the water. In fact, the spray can be seen from up to 20 or 30 kilometres away, hence the local name Mosi au Tunya the smoke that thunders. Hint: now s the perfect chance to use that waterproof case you bought for your camera. -Mosi oa Tunya - Victoria Falls Day 23 - Livingstone Welcome to our picturesque Livingstone campsite, perfectly placed on the doorstep of the Mosi au Tunya National Park. Fancy another game drive? Here, you have the option. Elephants crossing the Zambezi River from Zimbabwe can usually be spotted, as well as giraffe, buffalo, white rhino, warthog, hippo and a variety of different monkey species. Every life-defying activity you can think of is on offer here. Rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, abseiling, gorge swinging, elephant and horse riding and scenic flights above the thundering Victoria Falls are just the beginning. 10 -Zambezi sunset cruise -White water rafting -Helicopter -Fishing -Bridge tour -Full day abseil Day 26 - Livingstone to Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe Departing Livingstone, we cross the border to Zimbabwe and pass through Victoria Falls town and head to Bulawayo, a pleasant city with broad tree-lined avenues and wide open spaces. Our campsite is located in the Matopos area, which is surrounded by interesting hills and rock formations and is revered as a historical, geological and natural heritage site. Day 27 - Matobo National Park Channel your inner explorer today as we head into the impressive Matobo National Park with our knowledgeable guides. The windsculptured Matobo Hills are the site of numerous Bushman paintings, so there s no surprise the area holds a special cultural and spiritual importance to the indigenous people. The reserve has the largest concentration of black and white rhino in Africa and, provided conditions are right, our guides will lead us on foot to some of the more concealed places in search of these magnificent animals. -Half day Matobo National Park game drive & wilderness walk Day 28 - Matobo National Park to Tshipise, South Africa Leaving Matobo National Park, we continue south to the border at Beitbridge. Completing formalities we cross the Limpopo River the second largest in South Africa and an important water source for this arid region. The Limpopo also acts as a natural boundary between South Africa and its neighbours Botswana and Zimbabwe, before it flows through Mozambique to the Indian Ocean. We continue to Tshipise, a town situated in the northern Limpopo province. Our campsite is located at Forever Resorts at the foot of one of Limpopo s rolling koppies set adjacent the Honnet Nature Reserve.

11 Day 29 - Tshipise to Greater Kruger From Tshipise, we head for southern Africa's premier game reserve, the Kruger National Park. Fences between the National Park and surrounding private reserves were removed several years ago to form the Greater Kruger, an area of some 24,000 square kilometres. Wildlife is free to roam the enormous area and it has become incredibly diverse in both fauna and flora. From the dwarf mongoose to the Big Five, almost every major African mammal (over 145 species) is present. Tonight, be treated to a show of traditional Shangaan tribal dancing and singing, before embarking on a full day game drive the next day. -Shangaan cultural evening Day 30 - Greater Kruger to Kruger National Park Have your binoculars at the ready, for today we hope to catch a glimpse of as much of Africa s diverse wildlife as we can. See how many animals you can tick off your list on our full day's game drive (you'll be the toast of the campsite after spotting an elusive honey badger). -Kruger National Park game drive Day 31 - Kruger National Park to Johannesburg We leave the Kruger National Park behind today and make our way to South Africa's biggest city and commercial centre, Johannesburg, where our unforgettable adventure comes to a close. If you're up for exploring more of 'Joburg', chat to your guide about adding a few cheeky nights on to your itinerary. Accommodation Camping On our Camping trips, you will be staying in easy-to-assemble, two-person dome tents provided by us. Please try to keep the tent clean, zipped up and remember that no smoking, candles or mosquito coils are permitted in the tent. To keep pests away, we also ask that you not eat or leave food in your tent. Ain t nobody got time for bugs. Please note: You must provide your own sleeping bag on Camping trips. Accommodated Sometimes you just need your creature comforts. We totally get it. That s why our Accommodated trips offer the same level of excitement

12 and adventure as our Camping trips except every day ends with a night in a comfortable bed in a range of safari cabins, tented camps and hostels. Please note: Trips staying in Spitzkoppe and Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater will not be accommodated and two-person dome tents with a mattress and sleeping bag will be provided for these locations. Campsites Campsites you will stay in vary considerably. The general standard in East Africa is modest, although most have reasonable toilet and shower facilities. In southern Africa, the standard is usually somewhat higher. Occasionally we may camp out in the bush (with limited or no facilities). In addition to meal assistance, there are other odd jobs you will be expected to undertake as part of any trip in Africa. We ask that you get involved in collecting firewood, lighting fires, filling water tanks, loading luggage, keeping the truck clean and even helping with the dishes. Lending a hand has never been so much fun, trust us. Optional Activities On all trips we have arranged extra activities that we think will enhance your travel experience, but you have a choice as to whether or not you will participate. These are not included in the cost of your trip. They are usually organised on a group participation basis and should be taken into consideration when budgeting your spending money. None of the Optional Activities on your trip are operated by Topdeck, nor do they form part of your contract with Topdeck for your trip. 14 Get it for iphone Get it for Android Passenger safety One of the best parts of travelling is experiencing the nightlife and entertainment each city has to offer. However, amidst the fun and excitement, it s important to be aware of your surroundings and personal safety as well. Before you hit the road with us, it s important to be aware of the following: When you re on a night out, remember to avoid walking alone, particularly through deserted areas like beaches and back streets. Always stick together, take a taxi where possible, and keep a note of your accommodation details so you can find your way back to your fellow Topdeckers if you become separated. In some countries, alcoholic measures can be considerably larger than what you may be used to. Try to keep track of what you re drinking, and if you see one of your trip mates looking a little worse for wear, take them back to your accommodation. Be cautious when accepting drinks from strangers and never leave your drink unattended. It s also important to be aware that what you might consider harmless flirting may be interpreted differently in some countries. Be yourself and have fun, but don t be naïve, and be mindful of the signals you are sending out so that you don t find yourself in an uncomfortable situation.
