2 About About Us Thank you for choosing our brochure. You have made the perfect choice if you want to explore Africa Back in 1999, the founders of Traveljoy arranged our very first safari. We are privileged to showcase Africa to you and are honoured to have so many repeat clients. We offer safe and secure packages and guarantee excellent value for money. We draw our expertise from a combined travel experience of over 100 years, the majority of the team having lived in Africa between 12 and 40 years. Our qualified tour guides have been guiding our safaris for many years. They share a phenomenal wealth of knowledge about African wildlife, culture and history. Our guides are flexible and will do their best to cater to the individual needs and comfort of each traveller, enhancing your holiday experience. We offer a diverse selection of tours, ranging from a 7-day taster to a 59-day African adventure. We take small groups, on average 8-15 people with a maximum of 18. All places of accommodation are handpicked to offer you a warm and inviting experience, plus allowing you to relax at the end of each day. Custom-made safaris may be arranged. Careful consideration has been given in regards to tour departures, ensuring optimum game viewing and sightseeing as part of your memorable adventure. Travel is in the comfort of air-conditioned vehicles and extended 4WD s designed for game viewing when on safari. 3 South Africa Safari DAY 1 Australia to Johannesburg. 15 days 15 days DAY 2 On arrival in Johannesburg you will be met by your experienced tour guide. Travel to Pretoria and enjoy a city orientation tour which includes the Voortrekker Monument; the most visited heritage site of its kind in the country. Enjoy fine views over the city from the Union Buildings; a beautiful modern day acropolis with Italian renaissance terraced gardens. Check in to your hotel with the afternoon at leisure to rest or enjoy the local shopping and sights. Overnight in Pretoria. D DAYS 3-4 Drive to the world famous Kruger National Park to experience the African wildlife roaming freely in their natural habitat. Game includes zebra, lion, wildebeest, impala, warthog, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, kudu, elephant, leopard and much more. If you are lucky enough, you could spot all of the Big Five. An open safari game drive is also included. Stay in Kruger for two nights. BD DAY 5 After breakfast drive through the southern and central Kruger National Park and in the late afternoon exit the park through the Orpen Gate to head to your next accommodation. We have included an open vehicle game drive in the bushveld. Stay two nights on a private game reserve. BD DAY 6 Today experience the spectacular Panorama Route. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Wonderview, the lush and fertile Lowveld and the Blyde River Canyon. You will also visit the natural water feature of Bourke s Luck Potholes and Graskop, where you can buy African craft. BD DAY 7 Visit Hoedspruit Research and Breeding Centre to learn more about some of Africa s most endangered species, like the African painted wolf and the king cheetah. You will have the opportunity to encounter wildlife and birds at close range at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Two nights accommodation in a scenic forest camp. BD DAY 8 Take a boat cruise on the Blyde River Dam to experience the beauty and tranquillity of the water in the Blyde River Canyon; known as the world s greenest and third largest canyon, followed by a night game drive. BD DAY 9 Drive to another game reserve and stay for one night. Enjoy an open vehicle game drive, as well as dinner around the crackling campfire to relax in the African bushveld. We don t need to elaborate any more on these highlights, as words can t describe the atmosphere and sightseeing in this part of the world... you will have to experience it for yourself! BD DAY 10 Enjoy beautiful African scenes on your way to Johannesburg where you will overnight near O.R. Tambo Airport. BD DAY 11 This morning board a short flight to Cape Town. With its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Visit Table Mountain by cable car (weather permitting) and Castle of Good Hope; the oldest European building in South Africa. In the heart of Cape Town s working harbour, the V&A Waterfront offers shopping, restaurants and a variety of entertainment with a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere. Stay in Cape Town for two nights. BD DAY 12 Travel through a very scenic and popular route to visit Cape Point Nature Reserve, a spectacular narrow finger of land, covered in fynbos and home to beautiful bays, beaches, rolling green hills and valleys. An afternoon stop at the Boulders to see the African penguins. BD DAY 13 No visit to Cape Town is complete without a tour of the famous vineyards with wine-tasting at the estates. Drive through Franschoek and Paarl to overnight in picturesque Stellenbosch. BD DAY 14 A short scenic drive back to Cape Town International Airport. 4 Namibia, Botswana & Zambia 15 Safari days 15 days Etosha National Park Etosha National Park Nunda Lodge Chobe River DAY 1 Australia to Windhoek via Johannesburg. DAY 2 On arrival in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, you will be met by your experienced tour guide. Enjoy the city sights before you check in at your accommodation to overnight. D DAY 3 Depart Windhoek after an early breakfast and drive to Erindi Private Game Reserve. Here you will have your first African wildlife experience on a 3 hour safari game drive. In the afternoon you will drive to Otjiwarongo where you will overnight. BD DAY 4 Drive to Etosha National Park where you will spend most of the day exploring this spectacular park. A visit to Etosha is one of the highlights of travelling through Namibia. It covers an area of more than 2,275,000 ha. Be it a lion or an elephant, a giraffe or a zebra, almost all African animal species are represented in this huge nature reserve. The dainty springbok are especially numerous; often they can be observed in enormous herds of several hundred animals. We don t need to elaborate any more on these highlights, as words can t describe the atmosphere and sightseeing in this part of the world... you will have to experience it for yourself! Spend your first night inside Etosha National Park. BD DAY 5 More time to observe the fascinating wildlife of Etosha National Park while on a full day game drive. Spend a second night inside Etosha National Park. BLD DAY 6 The morning to rest before an afternoon game drive after which you will be transferred to your next accommodation. Stay one night just outside the northern end of the park. BD DAY 7 After breakfast continue your journey via Tsumeb and Grootfontein, where you may visit the Tsumeb Art and Craft Centre, Tsumeb Museum and/or the Hoba Meteorite. End your day at the mouth of the Okavango Delta, known as the Panhandle. It is situated in the Zambezi region (formerly known as the Caprivi region), and lends itself to a magical journey of culture, birds, mammals and flora. Late afternoon at your leisure to take in the beauty and splendour of nature and stay here for two nights. BD DAY 8 Enjoy a morning game drive in Mahango Game Reserve. A river sundowner cruise late afternoon to spot the prolific bird and wildlife is included. BD DAY 9 Late morning depart your lodge and drive through the Caprivi Game Park on your way to your next lodge where you will stay for the next two nights. The islands in this region are known among the local tribes as Islands of Abundance, offering a wealth of unspoilt beauty and wildlife. Late afternoon we have included a sundowner boat trip on the Kwando River to experience Africa untouched! BD DAY 10 This morning you may have a guided nature walk. The rest of the day is at your leisure or optional activities under the guidance of local experts can also be arranged e.g. bird watching and fishing (at own cost). During the afternoon a game drive is included for you. BD DAY 11 After breakfast with an amazing view, you will drive to Ngoma Bridge to cross the border and continue your journey to Chobe National Park in Botswana. You will stay for two nights at a lodge overlooking the Chobe River. BD DAY 12 Today is packed with excitement. Experience a game drive in Chobe National Park and a boat cruise on the Chobe River. 5 DAY 13 Breakfast with a view over Chobe River, you will then drive to Kazangula Border Post, where you will cross the Zambezi River via boat to enter your third country, Zambia. Visit the famous Victoria Falls and spend some time at the markets. Late afternoon you will have a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River what an amazing way to end your holiday. Overnight near Victoria Falls. BD DAY 14 After breakfast you will have the opportunity to experience an ultimate helicopter flight, taking in the powerful beauty of Victoria Falls (flight at your own cost). BD DAY 4 Late morning departure from Cape Town to drive to the charming fishing village of Lambert s Bay, where you will overnight. This part of the coast is beautiful, with wide expanses of white sand and blazing blue skies, you will have an opportunity to taste local seafood in the heart of crayfish country. BD Fish River Canyon DAY 5 Drive through the Northern Cape, which reflects facets of nature at its most harsh. Visit Goegap Nature Reserve with typical rocky hills and sandy flats. It is home to numerous fauna and flora. You will visit the Hester Malan Wild Flower Garden; a floral wonderland and World Heritage site. Overnight in Springbok. BD DAY 6 Depart Springbok, cross the border to enter Namibia. Visit the Fish River Canyon; the largest in the southern hemisphere and the second largest in the world. The immensity of this magnificent landscape is truly breathtaking. The canyon measures 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and almost 550 m at its deepest. Overnight near the Fish River Canyon. BD Nest Hotel Sossusvlei Sand Dunes 6 Traveljoy- Africa 2018/2019 DAYS 7-8 Drive through changing landscapes to the ocean at Naminus (formerly known as Lüderitz), staying for two nights. A catamaran boat trip to Halifax Island, home of the African penguin, is also included. Visit Goerke House and the interesting Kolmanskop Ghost Town. This tour provides all the information about its history and the diamond industry today. BD DAYS 9-10 Drive to Helmeringhausen to visit the 1909 Duwisib Castle. We have also included a very special visit to a Predator Project, where you can see cheetahs and other wildlife at very close range. Experience nature and life in the Namib Desert, starting the adventure at Sesriem, then to Sossusvlei with open 4x4 safari vehicles into the highest sand dunes in the world. Stay in a lodge nestled between the Nubib and Tsaris Mountains for two nights. BD DAYS Travel via the fishing town of Walvis Bay then through Namib Naukluft Park, the biggest nature conservation area in Namibia and the fourth largest in the world. The arid landscapes vary from massive mountains and giant sand dunes to large grass plains, deep river beds and even a lagoon near the ocean. Quad biking in the desert is an experience where no other vehicle will take you (optional at own cost), or you may choose an alternative tour or activity. Visit the famous Kristall Galerie and Engelhard Gallery for jewellery and art. Stay two nights in Swakopmund. BD DAYS Drive to Cape Cross Seal Colony where thousands of seals can be seen. Pass Brandberg, the highest mountain in Namibia, on your way to the Kunene region. You will visit the Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes and the Stone Age petroglyphs within the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site. Stay at unique Twyfelfontein for two nights. BD DAY 15 Visit the Petrified Forest then drive via Khorixas to Finger Rock; a rock formation that stands 35 m tall and has been worn into its distinctive shape by time and erosion. Spend three nights at a game lodge near the southern end of Etosha National Park. BD DAY 16 Spend most of the day in Etosha National Park. A visit to Etosha is one of the highlights of travelling through Namibia. 8 Kenya 20 & Tanzania days Safari 20 DAY 1 Australia to Nairobi via Johannesburg. DAY 2 On arrival in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, you will be met by your experienced tour guide. Enjoy a restful afternoon on the outskirts of Nairobi city centre. DAY 3 Depart to Aberdare National Park, have lunch near Nyeri. Then you are taken to Treetops to overnight. The floodlit waterhole attracts a host of wildlife. The cabins are fitted with buzzers to announce the arrival of one of the Big Five at the water hole during the night. BLD Shaba Nature Reserve Shaba Game Lodge Lake Nakuru National Park 14 Day Kenya Safari DAY 13 After breakfast you will be transferred to Nairobi Airport. You will start your extension of choice today or depart on your flight via Johannesburg to Australia. Visit Samburu or Shaba and Buffalo Springs National Reserves, a semi-desert area of Kenya. In this dry land the forested river banks are excellent areas to see wildlife, as all animals congregate here to drink. Enjoy a game drive. Spend two nights in a game reserve. BLD DAY 5 Morning and afternoon game drive. You may see animals not found in other parts of Africa; the reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich and the Grevy s zebra, crocodiles, hippos and other wildlife are often spotted at the river at dawn. BLD DAY 6 Driving south, you may have the opportunity to view Mount Kenya (5,199 m). It is permanently covered with glaciers and snow. Enjoy lunch overlooking Ewaso Nyiro River. Overnight in the Aberdare National Park. BLD DAYS 7-8 Descend into the Rift Valley, one of the most prominent features on the surface of the earth, which stretches over 8,700 km. Game drives through Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flocks of over one million flamingoes, are also included. Opportunities to see lion, rhino and hopefully even leopard. Witness amazing sunsets, stay for two nights at Lake Nakuru. BLD DAYS 9-11 Drive from the Rift Valley to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in the northern section of the Serengeti Plain, home to the greatest concentration of African wildlife. Visiting the world famous Maasai Mara is an adventure. It provides the invitation to experience the thrills and excitement of being amongst and viewing the plains abundant game. Wildebeest, zebra and buffalo can be seen in large herds. The plains also host the big cats; lion, leopard and cheetah. Between game drives relax with a drink, dip in the pool or see a traditional tribal dance. Weather permitting, there will be an opportunity for a hot air balloon flight - no words to describe this experience (optional at own cost). Stay three nights in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. BLD DAY 12 Enjoy beautiful African scenery on your way to Nairobi, where you will overnight to be treated in a unique colonial property on the outskirts of Nairobi. B Tsavo Extension You may choose to extend your 14 day safari to include Tsavo for two nights. After your fellow travellers have been transferred to the Tanzanian border, you will return to Nairobi to overnight. BD Tsavo Extension 2 nights in Tsavo and 1 night in Nairobi.
