We start our adventure in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Here we visit the Genocide Museum before making our way to Volcanoes National Park where we trek to see the mountain gorillas. After our great ape experience, we return to Kigali and fly to Mt Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). On a clear day, enjoy the views of the highest mountain in Africa. We continue our adventure with a visit to a local women s cooperative. Enjoy a stroll through the local market in Arusha before incredible game viewing opportunities in Tarangire National Park. Experience the cultures of the nomadic Bushmen of Lake Eyasi and visit the Maasai Villages in the Rift Valley. Explore the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, famous for its size and the abundance of large animals roaming its caldera. Mt. Kilimanjaro Day 1 Arrive in Kigali You are met upon arrival in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, and transferred to your hotel. Due to late flight arrival times, dinner will be arranged at our group hotel. Overnight in Kigali. Day 2 Kigali - Drive to Volcanoes National Park This morning we enjoy a late breakfast followed by our welcome meeting. We start our tour with a visit to the 2

Overnight in Volcanoes National Park. Day 3 Gorilla Trekking - Volcanoes National Park After an early breakfast, we depart for a day of mountain gorilla tracking. You will be transported by vehicle to the start point at the ORTPN offices to meet your gorilla mountain trekking guide. Your guide with give you a short briefing before setting out on your gorilla trek. The hike can vary in length and terrain, but be prepared for an average of 2-6 hours hiking, plus, of course, the hour spent watching the gorillas. Return to the lodge for a hot shower and time to relax before dinner. Overnight in Volcanoes National Park. Day 4 Kigali - Fly to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania After breakfast, we drive back to Kigali in time for lunch before our flight to Mt Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Overnight in West Kilimanjaro. Day 5 West Kilimanjaro Today we make our way to a rural women s cooperative, the Ngaroni Women s Group, situated on the western foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Here we have an opportunity to become part of the village as we enjoy a walking tour of the village accompanied by the local farmers. We will have a chance to learn about the stingless bee project started in 1993 and 3

4 other self-help programs being used to sustain the community. Overnight in West Kilimanjaro. Day 6 To Tarangire National Park This morning we make our way to Arusha in time to visit a local market before lunch. In the afternoon, we drive to the Tarangire National Park enjoying game viewing opportunities enroute to our camp. The Tarangire National Park is idolized in Hollywood movies, romanticized by early settlers and sought after ever since by the modern traveler. Open savannah, looming primeval baobab trees and stretched groves of acacia compete with roaming herds of elephants and an impressive array of predators to provide the very definition of the African bush. Overnight in Tarangire National Park. Day 7 Tarangire National Park Leaving camp early in the morning, we can make the most of prime game viewing opportunities before heading back to the lodge for lunch. We will do a game drive in late afternoon and take time to enjoy the sunset in one of the best locations in Africa. The spectacular backdrop will give you a taste of life as an African explorer. An evening game drive will open up the world of Africa s nocturnal game. Overnight in Tarangire National Park. Day 8 Maasai Village, to Lake Eyasi We leave the park early enjoy game viewing along the way. We then make our way to a traditional Maasai Boma village. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history and lifestyle of the Maasai people. From here we enjoy a local primary school visit where we have an opportunity to meet the principle and students in the community. After lunch at a local hotel, we make our way to Lake Eyasi where we Maasai warriors. 4

Overnight near Lake Eyasi Day 9 Lake Eyasi, Bushmen Experience After an early breakfast, we drive to meet the Hadzabe Bushman, related to the San and Kung Bushmen of Kalahari fame. The Hadzabe are a fascinating, traditional people. Experiencing life through the eyes of such ancient peoples will give you a privileged view of the lives of one of the last groups of authentic hunter-gatherer groups left in Africa. We return to our lodge in time for dinner. Overnight near Lake Eyasi. Days To Central Serengeti National Park - Safari After breakfast we depart for Tanzania s most famous game park. For the next three days, watch for big game as we travel through the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti could easily be the most famous national park in the world. The primeval paradise, roughly the size of Northern Ireland or Connecticut, has been the subject of countless wildlife films, each seeking to capture the unique spirit of these exhilarating eco-systems that was, until recently, the domain of the favored few. The unfurling plains provide the stage for the most dramatic wildlife spectacle on the planet when the massive herds of millions of wildebeest congregate on the short grass plains for the great migration north to the Maasai Mara. The gently undulating hills of Lobo stretch up to the Kenyan border, an idyllic landscape, dotted with kopjes and shady arbors, in which we track the resident wildlife. Overnight in the Serengeti National Park. *Optional Balloon flight on the morning of Day 11* Day 12 To South Western Serengeti Region After an early breakfast, we spend the day on safari as we follow the wildebeest migration to our camp located in the South Western part of the Serengeti. Overnight in the Serengeti National Park. Day 13 Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge After breakfast, we continue our game drive out of the Serengeti National Park heading towards Serengeti Balloon Safari (optional) View the Serengeti from the dream-like perspective of a hot-air balloon. Sail through the warm air on our sunrise balloon ride and celebrate with a Champagne breakfast. Price: from $550 USD Price subject to change. 5

The Gorge was made famous by the discoveries of fossil fragments of Homo sapiens by the Leakey family in 1959 and we will visit the small, but excellent museum. While we have our picnic lunch, we can enjoy a talk from museum staff about the discoveries made in the valley below us. Not everyone can visit the valley below but we can experience this as we have special permission as one of the only groups allowed to visit the actual site of discovery. We continue driving to Ngorongoro with the road offering spectacular views - sometimes over the Serengeti Plains and other times into the crater itself. Overnight on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Day 14 Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha This morning we wake up to breathtaking views, followed by a crater tour before making our way back to Arusha. After lunch we enjoy a visit to the Cultural Heritage Centre followed by free time before our farewell dinner. Overnight in Arusha *It is possible to fly home from the Kilimanjaro airport in the late evening depending on flight schedules* Day 15 Depart Arusha (Kilimanjaro Airport) After breakfast you will be transferred to the Kilimanjaro International airport in time to connect to your flight home. 9 Questions & Answers 1. How big are the groups? Each group is limited to 16 participants. Small groups are an important ingredient in adventure travel. They allow for more interaction and more personalized service throughout the itinerary. 2. What is included in the tour price? All accommodations throughout; all meals, starting with dinner on day 1 and finishing with breakfast on departure day (i.e. the last day of the ElderTreks tour); bottled drinking water throughout the trip; all internal transportation; airport transfers on day 1 and departure day (i.e. the last day of the ElderTreks tour); all day trips and entrance fees as outlined in the itinerary; tips for hotels (porterage), driver/guide, restaurants and spot guides; services of a trip leader. 3. What is not included in the tour price? International flights, tips to ElderTreks tour leader, alcoholic drinks, visa s and travel insurance. Gorilla permit is not included in the tour price. 4. Are these educational tours? Yes, in the broadest sense of the word, educational. We visit national parks, local villages and reserves and have talks and discussions on many aspects of history, culture and nature. But this is only a portion of the educational experience. We believe that it is equally educational to meet local people on a non-commercial basis, visit their homes and even try to learn a few words in the native language. 5. How do we travel during the tour? All local transportation is included in the land price of the trip. We travel by 4x4 safari vehicles, boat and by foot. Please note: some roads are in poor condition they can be rough and bumpy. 6. What are our accommodations like? We always stay in good accommodations hotels, lodges and luxury tented camps, where rooms have a private bath or shower. Single supplement not guaranteed for all nights. 7. What about the weather? Temperatures in Rwanda and Tanzania vary from the low 60 s F (16 C) at night to the high 80 s F (26 C) during the day. Humidity is average 50%, and rainfall is moderate during the times that we travel. The sun can be strong so a good sun hat and sunscreen is recommended. 8. When is payment due? A non-refundable deposit of $1500 (plus insurance if you require it) is due at time of booking and will reserve your place on the tour. Payment of the full land cost is due 100 days before departure. Cancellation charges are applicable and are outlined in the Terms and Conditions section of our brochure. 9. Is medical insurance required? Insurance coverage is not included in the cost of your trip. Please note that medical insurance is not required for this adventure but is recommended. ElderTreks offers comprehensive travel insurance and we are happy to provide you with a quote if you call our office. If you are purchasing insurance elsewhere, please ensure you provide the details to ElderTreks as soon as possible. *Please note those travelers with pre-existing medical conditions must take out travel insurance at the time of deposit 10. What should I take on the tour? There is a detailed What to Take list in our Trip Kit, which we will send to you after you have booked the trip. 11. What meals are included? All meals during the itinerary are included, starting with dinner on day 1 and finishing with breakfast on departure day. We eat a variety of local foods prepared in a wide range of settings. 12.
