As one of eight children born and raised on an Amish farm in rural Pennsylvania, the value of hard work was learned at an early age. My siblings and I also learned a lot about hard play. Creativity was the only option, as fancy toys and expensive gadgets were not a part of our lifestyle. The farm was left behind many years ago, and I now live in a typical suburb, but still encourage my children to spend large amounts of time outdoors. Our company, Pinnacle Play Systems, was founded to provide fun places where kids in today s world can grow, be challenged, and develop. Our Production Manager, who is also very involved in design of our units, is certified as a Playground Safety Inspector by the National Recreation and Park Association. As a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), we instituted their manufacturing guidelines to ensure we design and build safety into every play set we sell. We stand behind what we make and so we offer a 12-month limited warranty on your Pinnacle Play System; the wood has a 40-year guarantee against rot and decay! Look for the Pinnacle plaque on your play set. It s your guarantee you re buying the best quality play system for your family. It all starts with the wood. Our sets are strong. At Pinnacle Play Systems, we use 4''x4'', 4''x6'', and 6''x6'' pine posts, giving our sets tremendous stability. Pine is much stronger than other woods used in play sets, such as cedar and redwood. The many braces, made of 4''x4'' wood or steel, make our sets rigid. Our finishes make our sets virtually maintenance-free. Pinnacle Play Systems include splinter-free sets coated with a specially formulated signature red paint, or encased with UV-resistant, heavy-duty vinyl. Unlike cedar and redwood, which need annual staining and maintenance to keep them looking nice, our sets only need an occasional minimal washing and tightening of the hardware. Much like the waxed and painted finish on cars, our painted finish protects the wood from the ravages of rain, sun, snow, and other harsh elements. The maintenancefree, splinter-free vinyl finish provides a quality, clean look to your play set. Unlike cheap imitations, our vinyl-encased units have a solid wood core. The platforms are built using virtually indestructible hi-density poly decking. The product is engineered from environmentally-friendly plastic lumber and comes with a 25-year warranty. The beauty of our play sets becomes even more obvious as the years go by, compared with traditional cedar, redwood, or unpainted sets. Your child s safety is our most important concern. The number one issue that impacts the design of our sets is safety. Whether your set will be used by one child or by dozens, be assured that safety has been reviewed from every angle. Swings are spaced to provide plenty of room, so kids can extend their legs without fear of collision. Swing chains are rubber coated for a comfortable, firm grip and are fastened to the play sets with heavy swing hangers. Ladders angles have been optimized for safety. rungs are sure-grip powder coated. the top rungs of ladders are even with the decks and hand grips are placed at key points. An optional flat step system is available for the painted wooden units. Wide ramps permit two children to safely pass each other, are solidly constructed to avoid sway and include non-skid surfaces and speed bumps. Ramps are installed with room between the ramp and slide, so it is safe for children who slide with their arms over the sides, or for adults to stand between the two and assist their kids. 32'' high railings are engineered to prevent falls and spaced only 3'' apart. Hardware is strategically placed to protect from scrapes. Playhouses are fully weatherproofed. Your children can leave their toys even their favorite teddy bear in the playhouse without worry. We understand the negative impact of conflicting play areas, and have designed our sets to avoid them. If you have design goals for your unit that could introduce space issues, our Design Consultant will discuss those in detail with you. Details: getting down to the nuts and bolts: Bases are reinforced at the corners and double-bolted at the corners and other critical joints. Fasteners and brackets include a combination of stainless steel, galvanized, and powder coated products for strength and longevity. All of these are heavy duty to ensure stability. 3

28 Getting Started Pick Your Site Measure the proposed area where you would like to locate your play set. Note the length and width of your space, and remember to consider the height if you re placing your system under trees. For safe play, allow at least3-4 feet around your play set. The area where the set is installed should be level, especially for base units. Choose Your Ground Cover Selecting your ground cover is one of the most important and most overlooked safety features for play sets. No matter how careful they are, children may fall! You want their landing to be as safe and injury free as possible! We recommend installing one of the three types of ground cover listed below:* 1) Lush turf grass 2) 6'' of bark mulch 3) Shredded rubber mulch * Although cement and gravel are low maintenance, they are not kid-friendly Choose a Play Set After you determine how much space you have for your Play System, consider how your child will use it now... and five or ten years from now. What play elements best meet the needs of your child/children? Remember some components on the set should be challenging for each child, so as they grow, they will continue to be excited about the set. Consider such factors as: how many children will be playing on the set? Do you want a place for parties and sleepovers? You will naturally choose sets based on other preferences, such as how the appearance fits your property. Read page 3 for more information on the features of our wide variety of units. As displayed in this catalog, and on Pinnacle play sets fit within several distinct categories: Painted wood units (pages 4 to 15) finished with multiple coats of a specially formulated red paint Creative Play Series units (pages 16 to 17) Vinyl-clad units (pages 20 to 27) featuring sets that look like ships, castles, etc. providing maintenance-free sets in multiple colors Combination units (pages 18 to 19) for both residential and community projects Although there are similarities, each category has unique features, and is designed with accessories and options that are specific to that group. Any items actually attached to the set(s) you are buying need to be selected from within the same category. However, you can choose from multiple categories if you have independently standing units. Many units, in a wide range of sizes, are available as pre-configured units. This is a great way to go. You may see a pre-configured set that would be perfect for your situation as is, or with a few modifications. This is the best approach if the custom play set that you hope to build is dramatically different from the pre-configured units. We recommend starting with a base that will grow with your child(ren). For example: your two-year old may be fascinated by the swings and sand box, but in just a few years he or she will love the idea of a personal space. After selecting a base model, choose the swing beams, monkey bars, slides, climbers, bridges, and other add-ons that will provide the play features you want. Many of the add-ons can be used to connect one base model to other base models. 28

Writing quotes with full descriptions and prices. As needed, several quotes can be created to help you compare layouts. Completed installation One option that is especially helpful is to have them provide a drawing showing the footprint of the layout you prefer. Community playgrounds use the same base models and connectors, combined to form a larger scale system. Since all components are built to withstand heavy traffic, you can select any units and accessories with confidence. It can be helpful to think about activity zones; one area can be set up for the interests of older children (e.g. rock walls, monkey bars, poles, etc.), while another can be set up for younger children (e.g. infant swings, sand boxes.) The overall size of the system should be big enough to accommodate your number of children at peak capacity times. 29

30 Delivery and Assembly Our sets are typically shipped directly to your property. However, other arrangements can be made (e.g. international shipments are available). Depending on your geographical location and access to your site, we can offer you assembly services in coordination with your delivery. Contact us for on-site assembly details. Option 2 Our craftsmen will deliver and assemble your Pinnacle Play System kit. They will unload, assemble, and position the play set for you on your previously prepared, level site. Delivery Options Option 3 Option 1 Your Pinnacle Play System is shipped as a kit. The floors are pre-assembled and the rest of the play set components are stacked on the floor, shrink wrapped and shipped safely to you. As part of the kit, you are provided with easy-to-follow assembly manuals. Some carpentry experience is helpful for assembling these kits. Our craftsmen will deliver your partially-assembled Pinnacle Play System, complete the assembly, and install the set for you. Note: for partially assembled units, your site must be accessible by a truck and trailer, and your prepared site must be level. 30
