4 ONE-DAY E XCURSION WALKING TOUR TO THE MOUNTAIN FARM HOVDUNGO The mountain farm Li is situated far up in the Aurlandsfjord valley. This is the home of our local guide, Gry, who will take us to Hovdungo (789 m). We follow the road people used to transport cattle to their summer pasture in the mountains. On our way, we see old hayfields, trees pruned by pollarding, coalmines and skuas. At Hovdungo mountain pasture, there are grazing sheep. The view of the fjord is magnificent, 04 SAKTE.NO / SLOW ADVENTURES and can be enjoyed from different sides of the farm. We have local farm fare for lunch, and wander back down, stopping at several viewpoints over Aurlandsdalen valley, the Aurlandsfjord, Aurlandsvangen and Flåmsdalen valley. 5 ONE-DAY EXCURSION RALLARROSA GOAT CHEESE FARM A TASTE OF KÅRDALEN Take the famous Flåm Railway to the station Vatnahalsen or Myrdal and walk slowly for an hour down to Rallarrosa. At the farm you get to know about dairy production, and you get to taste cheese and have refreshments. You can also buy cheese or smoked and cured goat sausages in the farm shop. Walk from the farm down to the station of Blomheller, appr. 1 hours walk downhill at local road. Then take the train back to Flåm station. Duration: 5 hours Suitable for both groups and individual guests. People have lived here for hundreds of years, and the landscape is an important part of our cultural heritage. Along the way we make stops at attractions and spot for seals, porpoises and eagles. The guide will tell you about the fjord, local history and the wildlife; and share with you stories, tales and legends. We go ashore in Undredal. The village is inhabited by 85 people and almost 500 goats. To no surprise the specialty of this village is the production of goatcheese, and you will get to taste it, brown and white! Duration: 3 hours Prices: Adults NOK 850,- Children (3-14) NOK 550,- Season: May-September Flåm guide service, ONE-DAY EXCURSION FJORD CAMP Our trip starts from Flåm, where we take a RIB-boat tour into the Nærøyfjord, to Dyrdal. On the beach in Dyrdal we go ashore and invite our guests to different kind of activities. We will serve a wonderful barbeque meal composed of ingredients from Haugen Farm, the farm is located in Flåm and they only use local products. Relax and enjoy the campfire. 6 ONE-DAY EXCURSION FJORD SAFARI + HIKING TO A MOUNTAIN FARM LEIM Fjord Safari in combination with local food! The tour starts with Mini Fjord Safari by RIB boat, which runs into the heart of Nærøyfjord. On the way back we go ashore in Aurlandsfjord at Skjerdal. Here we start our hike ut to the goat farm Leim. The trip takes about one hours at a normal pace. 360 m ascent. The trail up to the mountain farm has a great views of the fjord and valley. It is several beautiful waterfalls to admire along the way. On Leim you get to learn how to make goat cheese. Have a tasty lunch out on the patio with cheese tasting as appetizer and a main dish based on local produce. There will be time to enjoy the view and visit the goats before we set the trip downhill, where we take the boat back to Flåm. Duration: 5 hours Prices: Adults NOK 990,-. 7 ONE-DAY EXCURSION HIKING AT STALHEIM, TRIP TO NÅLI An exciting Heritage trail in the Nærøyfjorden world heritage park. Hiking with a saddled horse from Sivle Farm at Stalheim. You walk with a guide and have small stops along the trail where you will learn about the cultural landscape. You will have a light meal in Nåli, small dishes and homemade lemonade, and of course coffee made on the campfire. Don t forget to bring your camera! Duration: 3 hours Prices: NOK 650,- per person. ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIC WALK ON LÆRDALSØYRI Stay at the charming Sanden Pensjonat with supper and breakfast included. On day 2 there will be an architectural history tour of the old wooden buildings of Lærdalsøyri with about 170 protected buildings. The houses range from classicist buildings from the first half of the 1800s, the Swiss style and Jugend style from the period around There are many charming gardens to look at in the area. On day 2 we take a trip to Borgund along the historic trails, includig stops at Galdane croft, and several waterfalls. The historic route continues on foot in the beautiful Vindhella road from the 1840 s with guided stops along the way. The tour ends with a tour of Borgund stave church from 1170, the best preserved of the Norwegian stave churches and lunch at the visitor s center. 9 3-DAY TRIP ECO TOUR AROUND NÆRØYFJORD WORLD HERITAGE SITE Flåmsdalen, the valley at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, is a typical West Norwegian fjord valley that cuts into the depths between ancient mountains. Throughout several ice ages and millions of years, ice and melt water, rocks and gravel have shaped Flåmsdalen valley, the Nærøyfjord and the Aurlandsfjord to create the beautiful, wild and dramatic landscape we see today. We walk the old roads in Flåmsdalen valley and its surrounding mountains, and go on boat trips on the fjord. Full board, including food made from local produce, cooked on a wood-fired stone oven at Eldhuset in Flåm, is included in the price. A local guide accompanies us on our excursions, explaining what we see, and lending a helping hand in rugged terrain. Day 1: Walking tour from the farm Ytrelid to the mountain farm Hovdungo (789 m) through an old spruce forest. From Hovdungo, we have a splendid view over the fjord and the mountain plains. We see coalmines, flumes and a rich fauna including skuas and other bird species. We have lunch at Hovdungo, and return via Vikesland. Day 2: We take a RIB-boat tour out on the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord, as we scout for porpoises and seals and eagals. We stop at several places to listen to our local guide and to take in the view and the serenity of the area. We go as far as the inlet Bakkasundet, before turning around and stopping in Dyrdal to eat our packed lunches. We wander up the road to have a look at a traditional Norwegian farmyard compound, a klyngetun, before returning to Flåm. Dag 3: This trip starts in Myrdal, and we walk slowly down to Berekvam, the half way to Flåm Station, stopping several places. We stop at the goat farm Rallarrosa, where we learn about the making of goat cheese, and also sample their cheese. Along the way, we see waterfalls and rapids, beautiful mountains, as well as the rich flora of the area. From the station at Berekvam, we take the train to Håreina. Day 1: Boat trip from Bergen to Flåm Start your trip by boarding the express boat from Bergen to Flåm. The boat travels through narrow waters in the picturesque archipelagoes of Nordhordland and Gulen, and continues into the Sognefjord, the world s longest fjord. On its way to Flåm, the boat makes stops at picturesque places, and you will witness the unusual boat transfer in the middle of the fjord, where passengers may transfer from the express boat to a tourist ferry. Day 2: Bicycle ride along Rallarvegen Rallarvegen is has become well known as an unusually beautiful bicycle track, running alongside numerous natural wonders. We take the train to Finse (1222 m), and cycle along Rallarvegen to Flåm (52 m). This road was built as a service road for the Bergen Railway. We cycle westward over the beautiful mountain plateau, and down through the valley to the fjord. On the way, we witness a rich fauna, waterfalls and lakes, mountain pastures and tiny villages in a wild landscape made up of valleys and mountains shaped by ice and water. Later, dinner will be served at Eldhuset, prepared from local produce on a stone oven. Day 3: Local food traditions We clean and light a wood-fired stone oven, bake bread and make barley soup the way people did in this valley 100 years ago. We visit a local grinding mill. The owner of the mill tells us about the beer brewing process, and lets us taste his brew. On our way back to the farm, we stop by Flåm church from After lunch, we go out in search of the local culinary treasures of the season. Day 4: Hike to Ramnanosi and Vikesland Our local guide Gry Lie takes us up into the mountains. On our way up, we visit 14 ruins of houses from the late Iron Age ( AD), before continuing towards Ramnanosi (1421 m), which boasts a spectacular view of the mountains in all directions, as well as a superior view down Flåmsdalen valley. Our journey continues down the road to the old summer pastures, to Joasete, Høgsete and Vikesland, where we stop to look at the goats. We walk through an old spruce forest and look at skuas, and scout for reindeer and eagles. Day 5: Exploring the World Heritage Site by boat We take a RIB-boat tour out on the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord, into an area that holds some of the world s most grand and dramatic fjord scenery. 11 We have lunch at Hovdungo, and return via Vikesland. Later, we have dinner in Flåm and visit Ægir Brewery. Day 2: Aurlandsdalen valley We walk through Aurlandsdalen valley, which is famous for its natural beauty. The road from Hol to Aurland is one of the main traffic arteries from east to west in Norway. Our journey begins at Østerbø, and lasts for 6-7 hours. We have dinner at Haugen Gardsmat (Haugen Farm Produce), sampling their specialties. Day 3: Undredal We walk from the mountain farm Langhuso (dated to the 13th century), and down through the valley to Undredal, following the old road people used to transport their cattle from their summer pasture in the mountains. This valley is known for its wild, steep scenery, and we will look more closely at the ways in which is has been shaped by glaciers, water and waterfalls. We sample Undredal s world famous white and brown goat cheese. We also visit the farm Hjøllo, which is situated on a mountain ledge. In Undredal, our local guide shows us around this remarkable, small village, and we visit Undredal Stave Church. We then return to Flåm by ferry, and have a slow food dinner. Day 4: Day off to explore the local places at your own. Dag 5: Hiking from Myrdal down the Flåm Valley We walk slowly down to Berekvam, the half way to Flåm Station, stopping several places. We stop at the goat farm Rallarrosa, where we learn about the making of goat cheese, and also sample their cheese. Along the way, we see waterfalls and rapids, beautiful mountains, as well as the rich flora of the area. From the station at Berekvam, we take the train to Håreina. In Eldhuset, we prepare food on a wood-fired stone oven. Day 6: Hike to Ramnanosi and Vikesland On our final day, we take you up the mountains. On the way up we go up to 14 ruins from the late Iron Age ( AD.). We go on to Ramnanosi (1421 m.) which has a fantastic view of the mountains in all directions and down into the Flåm Valley. The walk continues down to Joasete and Vikesland. After this long trip, a footbath awaits us at Flåmsbrygga, followed by dinner at Ægir Brewery.
