1 Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa Activities and Experiences Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is Australia s ultra luxury conservation based resort. A scenic 2.5 hour drive from Sydney, the resort is located on Australia s Great Dividing Range between two national parks, the Wollemi National Park and the Gardens of Stone National Park, within the World Heritage listed Greater Blue Mountains region. Set on its own private 7,000 acre carbon neutral conservation and wildlife reserve, the secluded resort intertwines absolute luxury and comfort with a quintessentially Australian rugged bush experience. Reflecting the resort s sustainability ethos is a deeply held commitment to the conservation of the region s unique biodiversity and the gradual restoration of the former grazing property. The property and surrounding national parks play a vital role in providing habitat for the unique native fauna that live within the Wolgan Valley. Visitors to the resort are likely to encounter wombats, wallabies, kangaroos and wallaroos and a range of nocturnal marsupials including gliders and possums. The grasslands and woodland areas in particular, provide home to many of Australia s unique bird species, including a diverse range of parrots, kingfishers, honeyeaters, finches, waterfowl and birds of prey. Guests have the opportunity to engage with the landscape and encounter many native species of flora and fauna through a wide range of nature based experiences and activities. Signature experiences include the Guided Nature Walk, Wolgan Wildlife Drive, Nocturnal Spotlighting and Stargazing as well as the hands on Conservation Hour. The Wolgan Valley can also be experienced as a cultural landscape, rich in layers of meaning and significance to different groups of people and different historical periods. The Valley has an ancient connection and significance to the region s Aboriginal community and prior to European colonisation supported a rich variety of plants and animals that were managed sustainably in accordance with ancient and complex traditions. The property is also steeped in colonial history and associated with the development of Australia s early pastoral industry through its connection to the historic figure, James Walker of Wallerawang. This heritage has been brought back to life through an immaculate restoration of a rare surviving example of a colonial slab homestead believed to date back to The property can even boast a connection to the famous Charles Darwin, who visited the Wolgan Valley in 1836, as a guest of James Walker, and stayed in this very homestead. Wolgan Valley is rich in mining heritage and was home to one of Australia s first large scale industrial investments, the Newnes shale oil mine and refinery.

2 Inclusive Activities (Guided) While staying at the resort, guests are free to do as much or as little as desired. Packages include a daily choice of two activities from within the Inclusive Activities program. Bookings are essential for all activities and can be arranged through a Field Guide or Guest Services. There is also a wide range of non inclusive activities and private touring experiences tailored to special interests. See Non Inclusive Activities for more information. Duration: 1.5 hours Wolgan Wildlife & Sundowner Tour Guests will be collected from the Main Homestead in a 4WD vehicle by a Field Guide who will take them through the majestic Wolgan Valley, travelling between sheer sandstone cliffs. The tour sets off an hour before sunset to give guests the best opportunity to observe Australia s wildlife, which is most active at this time. Guests will see kangaroos, wallaroos, wallabies and a wide variety of smaller, lesser known species plus many native birds. Field Guides are well versed in local bush lore and history and guests will be entertained and educated along the way. This tour will usually visit the Wollemi Pine Grove. Located in the protected site of the Wolgan Valley Reserve, the grove is home to a truly remarkable and unique species the Wollemi Pine. The Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis) is one of the world's rarest tree species and is endemic to the Blue Mountains. Until 1994, it was known only from Jurassic fossil records, and presumed extinct by botanists, until it was famously rediscovered to be surviving within the Wilderness Area of Wollemi National Park. Its rediscovery is considered to be the botanical find of the 20th century and has often been described as akin to finding a dinosaur alive today. The tour follows a meandering route through the Wolgan Valley with guides relying on their knowledge of seasonal and local animal movements to locate wildlife. Guests can take short walks at points of interest to enjoy the magnificent backdrop of Wolgan Valley s ancient sandstone escarpments. The tour concludes with canapés, refreshments and a glass of sparkling wine while guests watch the sun disappear over the horizon. Note: Tours depart daily in the late afternoon and are subject to weather conditions. Sundowners do not take place in winter due to the cold, but are offered at the Main Homestead instead.
