2 ASSOCIATION INTERLAKEN HOSTELS & ADVENTURE (IHA) The Association Interlaken Hostels & Adventure has a broad membership drawn from 8 low budget tourist lodgings and 16 leisure and adventure providers for the tourist destination, Interlaken. Objectives of the association - One common brand and shared marketing. - Promotion and establishment of Interlaken as a leading destination for backpackers. (No. 1 in Switzerland and within the top 10 in Europe) - Reference to the extensive and unique range of budget accommodation, adventure activities and natural beauty of the region. - Lobby of tourism organisations and, economic and political bodies, - Cooperation among its members. - Synergistic development and formation of common structures. The economic importance of the association and its members - In the tourist accommodation market, the 8 hostels generate over 160,000 overnight stays yearly, which is in comparison with the other forms of accommodation in Interlaken (Hotels, Camp sites) over 16% of the total overnight stays. - In the leisure and adventure field, over 30 different activities are offered. Among the adventure guests, 47% are backpackers. - On the whole, members of the Association Interlaken Hostels & Adventure generate a revenue of over CHF 20 million in the region. Consequently, Interlaken is one of the leading destinations for youth and adventure tourism in Switzerland and Europe. This is of great significance for tourism as a whole in the region, because if guests learn to know a region as youths or young adults, they will be more likely to return later when they may belong to higher social strata, and can afford superior vacations in star hotels. Activities AIR EARTH WATER Interlaken is one of the most popular flight destinations in Europe. Every year, over 30,000 guests take to the skies with an Interlaken adventure provider. (Paragliding, Hanggliding, Skydiving, Round flights) Every year, in total over 60,000 Activities are sold to visitors to Interlaken. Over 15,000 visitors have booked offers in the Earth sector. (Segway- and E-Bike-Tours, Bungy-Jumps, Climbing, Rope-park) After Air the second largest sector of adventure sports in Interlaken. Every year, over 18,000 guests seek water borne fun, mostly by rafting and canyoning. HOSTELLING - Every year over 160,000 overnight stays are sold in the 8 hostels. This is double the number for the year Over 80% of guests travel by public transport to Interlaken. - Hostel guests spend a daily average of CHF (incl. accommodation).-, this is about the same as a3* Hotel guest spends. Pilots of Paragliding, Hanggliding and of course airplaines are under the control of the FOCA (Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation); guides in the watersports arena have a basic education certified by the Swiss Outdoor Association (SOA). The association guidelines are assembled by certified companies under the title Safety in Adventures. QUALITY Interlaken is an adventure tourist destination unmatched in the whole of Europe, and nowhere else on this continent can guests find such a wideranging and fully developed adventure and backpacker scene. 4 1. Air 1.1 Tandem Hang Gliding Interlaken and its vicinity is famous for the unique possibilities for hang gliding. After a short introduction, an experienced pilot will take you into the air. High above Interlaken, you will see firsthand the breathtaking scenery of mountains, lakes and the surrounding villages. 5 1.4 Round flights Circling above the majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps, it is not only the timeless beauty of the glacier world that makes one speechless, but also the elemental forces that one inevitably feels.
