City Manager s WEEKLY UPDATE November 1, 2018 From: Jeff Kay, City Manager MARK YOUR CALENDARS Neighborhood Meeting on Professional Office (P) Zoning Code Updates Thursday, November 1, 5:30 p.m. City Hall, 835 East 14 th Street The Planning Division will be hosting a Neighborhood Meeting in the Sister Cities Gallery at City Hall to present the proposed Professional Office (P) Zoning District and Commercial and Professional Development Regulations Zoning Code Updates. The proposal will reduce the building height limit in the Professional Office (P) Zoning District from 50 feet to 30 feet and will clarify and consolidate the established Commercial and Professional Development Regulations found in Article 6 of the San Leandro Zoning Code. Planning staff will be available to answer questions. The Planning Commission is to consider the proposed Zoning Code updates on Thursday November 15, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact Andy Mogensen at 577 3325. Veteran s Day 33 rd Annual Flag Raising Ceremony Sunday, November 11, 11:00 a.m. Senior Community Center, 13909 East 14 th Street Together with the American Legion Post 117, San Leandro is hosting the annual flag raising ceremony in observance of Veteran s Day. Complimentary light breakfast refreshments will be provided. A special ceremony including stacking of rifles, placement of an American Legion cap, and a flag raising ceremony will also take place. America Recycles Day Tuesday, November 13, 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Marina Community Center, 15301 Wicks Boulevard San Leandro will be hosting a recycling event in honor of America Recycles Day. This event is aimed at motivating residents to recycle every day. Recyclable materials can be given a second, third and fourth life to become something new if someone chooses to recycle. City of San Leandro America Recycles Day Event Tuesday, November 13, 2018 9:00am - 1:00pm Marina Community Center 15301 Wicks Blvd, San Leandro Recyclable materials can be given a second, third and fourth life to become something new if someone chooses to recycle. In a very practical way we can all help to improve our economy, conserve our energy and resources, if we recycle. Come join us and celebrate America Recycles Day! WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO RECYCLE: REQUIREMENTS: San Leandro Residents only Package materials according to guidelines below Household batteries Expired or unused medication (no controlled substances) Mercury thermometers Fluorescent light bulbs/tubes & incandescent bulbs CDs, DVDs, jewel cases, floppy disks, audio and video tapes Cell phones and cell phone chargers Empty toner cartridges It is against the law to throw batteries in the trash. On February 8, 2006, the State of California banned household batteries and other hazardous products (like fluorescent lights) from disposal. Recycle Your Medication PROPER PACKAGING: Do not commingle batteries with other products - bag separately. Remove all excess packaging from medicines (bottles, boxes & plastic wrap) and empty pills into a sealed plastic bag. Consolidate liquid medicine and ointment with loose pills. Dispose of needles, syringes and lancets in a sharps container Carefully package fluorescent lights. Any broken bulbs should be packaged individually in a sealed plastic bag. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED: VITAMINS & SUPPLEMENTS NEEDLES & SHARPS SOAPS & OTHER PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS ELECTRONIC DEVICES CAR BATTERIES CHEMICALS OR PAINTS NEW TONER CARTRIDGES LIGHT FIXTURES OR BALLASTS Unused medicine flushed or put down the drain can end up in our waterways and pollutes the environment. A meeting of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sister Cities Gallery at San Leandro City Hall. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION The BPAC last met on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 to update and to gather input and feedback on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (BPMP). The City Council eventually adopted the BPMP on March 19, 2018 after the Planning Commission s review on February 15, 2018. BPAC Committee Members and City staff are announcing the 1 st BPAC meeting after the newly adopted 2018 BPMP. The BPAC meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sister Cities Gallery. During the meeting, the BPAC will review and comment on several pending Capital Improvement Projects, as well as hear reports on several important transportation studies and initiatives underway by City staff. Committee members will also be asked to approve the City s use of Transportation Development Act grant funds for pedestrian curb ramp upgrades throughout the community.
