Even though the weather was not in the mood to let us enjoy riding, we had twenty seven members and four visitors at our meeting. We held the meeting to a minimum amount of time because when Janet and I left home we had about ½" of snow on the ground and it was snowing really hard. Luckily Mother Nature was looking out for us and we had no problems on our way home. Dave Smith has secured a place and someone to prepare the food for the lucky riders that are doing the 40 to Phoenix ride. We are very pleased that so many of our members stepped up and volunteered to furnish supplies, help with set up and cleanup so we can make our visitors feel welcome. We have a very active year planned. Watch for our monthly activity schedule in the newsletter and Janet will send out an email to everyone so that you will know in advance and hopefully be able to arrange your schedule so that we can all enjoy a great year. Johnny and Charlie have planned a special men s ride in April. They will be riding Aces and Eights and visit the Corvette Museum. I will not be able to do the Aces and Eights, but hopefully I will be able to meet them and tour the Corvette Museum. Thank you Johnny and Charlie for donating your time and effort for a great ride. As always, we want all of our members and friends to know how special you are. If we did not have this special group we would have stepped down as Your CDs a couple of years ago. T Dave & Dianne Smith his month we talked about staying focused. We have all had those days, most days, when we feel like we are one with the Wing. You are rolling down the highway and life is good. You ride into a curve and as you flow through you gently twist the throttle and the Wing starts lifting up as you exit out the other side. Smooth, fast and confident the lines flash under your left foot peg as you glide, in the zone, in the groove, in the well you know. But, then there are those rare days when it feels like the timing is just off a touch. The corners come at you a little faster than usual. As Ride Coordinators Safety Tip of the Month you get on the throttle suddenly half way through the curve you make an adjustment. You back off the gas perhaps touch the rear brake pedal for a second. You jerk the bike up out of the line you picked. You doubt yourself; did I miscalculate my line, my speed, the road condition? I call these left footed days. Don t ask me why, I don t know. But you know the days I am talking about. It just seems like everything is off just a little bit. We all have them. Friends Night Out Tuesday, April 10th Binion s Road House 1565 Four Seasons Blvd Hendersonville NC On those rare, hopefully, occasions when you are having a left footed day pause and take a breath. Knock a few mph. off and take it a little easier going through the curves. Some days it is just not there, so don t push yourself into an expensive mistake. Know your limits and when you hear that little voice saying let s just take it easy today, follow your instincts and ride within your limitations. There s a lot of Chapter NC-I events happening in April. Check the GWRRA Chapter NC-I Calendar page later in the newsletter. I have tried to get the time to write this article since the OPS meeting at the end of January. While at the meeting I spoke to many Chapter Directors and Officers of other chapters and everyone that I spoke to had the same concern as I do regarding the inter problems with chapters. Chapter Directors Special Message Not only was there much concern about all the changes coming from the main office, but concern about the changes that were happening in their chapters. Members are confused and concerned about what to expect next causing many to say Let s just forget GWRRA and just do the rides ourselves. Unfortunately, a few members may to try to persuade others to veer away from the group. This is the small group that wants no responsibility but wants to do things their way no matter what problems it may cause in the end. Membership Ehnancement The Position is Open Any Volunteers? We have seen this occur in at least one of our western chapters in the past. This can cause so much turmoil within the membership that the chapter eventually shuts down. We have all witnessed so many chapters close within the last two years due to problems within. So, let s all pull together and make our chapter the strongest in the west. This is my call to all you members, stay strong, stay together and make each other proud to be the best. Ride safe, C harles has had to step down as Membership Enhancement Coordinator to commit time to some other responsibilities. The chapter is looking for someone to take on that position. To paraphrase a popular children s television personality, Won t you be our MEC? Hello. Jan Janowski here. We had planned on coming to meetings in 2015 when we retired here, but things changed. I developed prostate cancer. Got it fixed, but cannot ride any more, and that's why we never made it to any meetings. We kept thinking We'll be better next year, and kept bikes. We are now deciding to sell both bikes. For Sale 1993 Goldwing SE 1500 (Blue/Blue) 1995 Shadow Ace 1100 (Red/White) Both have been started every 3 months, have gel-cell batteries, and include battery tenders. We have some leather jackets, heated jackets and vests, helmets (you could use the headsets out of them) also. We are going to put these on Craig's List in a few weeks. We thought we'd let your folks have exclusive access to it for a couple weeks before posting it. We live halfway up a mountain, so because they haven't been ridden for 2+ years, we'd expect them to be trailered away. We are halfway up Purchase Knob, off of Hemphill Road. Jan Janowski 440 Crystal Tree Drive Waynesville, NC 28785 847-962-4192 (If you still have an 828 number for us, it is no longer active.) GWRRA NC-I Meeting Map I know some of you have more miles on your Wings, but I m proud to have made it this far. My 98 1500se should have had many more miles by now, but having a full-time job sure does constrain a person s riding time. Wil Wil Higdon at Dollar General on Brookside Camp Rd, 4/1/18 Page 5
