leisure & lifestyle Huge benefits from animal physiotherapy When we have an ache or pain, or have had surgery, often it is recommended that we see a physiotherapist. The benefits of physiotherapy are well documented in people. However when we notice that our pets are a little stiff or sore, or have had surgery, we rarely consider taking them to an animal physiotherapist. In the last few years physiotherapy has started to be used more commonly in companion animals. Recently at Pet Medical we have started using physiotherapy in animals following some orthopaedic operations, and also for our older patients. Coming into winter, dogs and cats will often feel stiff and sore; they may struggle to get up in the morning, or are not as active as they used to be. Often this is blamed on old age, and we think that this is just what we need to expect in our older companion animals. This is NOT the case, there is more that we can do! Most companion animals will benefit from a personalised physiotherapy program, which can be worked out with the aid of your vet. If you are interested in organising physiotherapy for your companion animal talk to the friendly team at Pet Medical. Image: [top right] Dr Peta Gay Railton, Pet Medical....
