Making an architectural statement, the attractive new station building will offer a self-contained space that will attract passengers and passing shoppers to dwell in an architecturally striking waiting area and café. Taking inspiration from the range of large scale city centre train station redevelopments across the UK, the new Interchange will offer an iconic new point of entry into the city, with associated opportunities for retail and office space development. The redevelopment of the site is still at the masterplanning stage, in large part to ensure that any opportunities associated with the emerging Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) are capitalised upon and integrated into the station site.
