Adelaide Riverbank Precinct & Australia s best connected BUSINESS, EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCT Central to this phase of exciting new infrastructure is the re-development of Adelaide s Riverbank Precinct home to Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Casino, BioMed City, hotels and surrounding plazas. This area is developing as a world-class business, events and entertainment precinct creating a lively and highly connected riverside space for delegates to meet and do business by day and be entertained by night. Adelaide Convetion Centre Credit: Adelaide Convention Centre & 9 ADELAIDE CONVENTION CENTRE A $400 million 2-stage redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre is significantly increasing capacity and flexibility with the end result being three distinct interlinked buildings. The first stage is now complete and was opened to the public in March 2015. The new building has expanded westwards over the railway lines and now sits over the road from Adelaide s BioMed City. Stage two of the redevelopment will replace the original Plenary Building (home of the first convention centre in Australia in 1987) with a multi-purpose, state-ofthe-art facility with plenary capacity of up to 3,500 seats and is scheduled for completion in 2017. This redevelopment positions Adelaide Convention Centre as one of the most versatile, technologically advanced and appealing event spaces in the world.

Adelaide Festival Centre & Plaza & ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE & PLAZA Adelaide s iconic Festival Centre has commenced a $90 million re-development with improvements to the building s exterior and an internal technical upgrade. The outcomes of the project will enable the Adelaide Festival Centre to continue to attract the biggest and best shows and events to Adelaide. The redevelopment will better support presenters and reward patrons with the best arts and entertainment experiences. A further significant commitment relates to the exciting redevelopment of Festival Plaza. The Festival Centre sits at the heart of the Plaza and will be a key part of this transformative project that will enhance the arts and entertainment attractions in the Riverbank precinct. 10

Adelaide Casino & ADELAIDE CASINO The Adelaide Casino has recently undergone a multimillion dollar refurbishment, making it a world class entertainment destination and ideal for entertainment purposes or a memorable function and corporate event. The refurbishment included two new restaurants which have been a huge success in Adelaide. The award-winning contemporary dining of Sean Connolly s New York Brasserie inspired restaurant, Sean s Kitchen and the French Vietnamese Bistro, Madame Hanoi by acclaimed celebrity Chef Nick Watt are two jewels in the Casino s crown. The Adelaide Casino will shortly embark on the next phase of its re-development, a $350+ million investment to a state-of-the-art hotel complex, offering services for the high end consumer. The new building will be presented with a coherent architectural expression including a layered, wavlinear glazed form, referencing the nearby River Torrens. The multi-faceted arrangement of glass will present a shimmering luminous quality by day and by night. 11

BioMed City - Credit: Don Brice, Photographer & ADELAIDE S BioMed CITY Fertile ground for conventions As a key component of the Riverbank Precinct, Adelaide is creating the largest BioMed City of health and biomedical research institutions in the Southern Hemisphere. This significant development has created fertile ground for successful international and domestic conventions in the fields of health, medicine and related sciences. It is also an initiative that adds great strength to the Bureau s Conventions Adelaide program which offers organisers a direct line to leading specialists and institutions operating within their field across Australia and the Asia Pacific. Institutions that form part of this integrated hub are listed on the following pages. 12

SAHMRI Credit: Peter Clark, Photographer & SAHMRI n Health & Medical Research Institute SAHMRI opened in late 2013 and significantly increased Australia s capacity for leading scientific research. Some of the core practices undertaken at SAHMRI include; A team of 600 researchers, who work together in search of better treatments and cures for some of the world s most challenging diseases. Creating a state-of-the-art output of medical research and clinical application with advanced laboratories and equipment in a purpose built iconic facility, adjacent to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. It actively fosters and nurtures a new generation of the finest research minds, and undertake extensive and interactive community engagement and education. Key SAHMRI themes include Cancer, Heart Health, Nutrition & Metabolism, Mind & Brain, Infection & Immunity, Aboriginal Health, and Healthy Mothers, Babies & Children. SAHMRI 2 is scheduled to be built adjacent to SAHMRI and will house an additional 500 researchers over 12 levels. 13

Royal Adelaide Hospital & NEW ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL The new Royal Adelaide Hospital (nrah) will be the state s flagship public hospital and the cornerstone of the reformed n health system. The nrah will direct s new patient-centred model of care by delivering safe, quality health services to in the areas of adult medical and surgical services, emergency care, acute mental health, outpatient services and diagnostic services. The nrah will have 800 beds and all overnight patient rooms will be single bedrooms. There will be increased operating theatres, intensive care beds and emergency care capacity. Co-located with SAHMRI, the nrah will be a major teaching hospital and maintain strong ties with other training and research institutions. 14

HEALTH INNOVATION BUILDING (HIB) UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA The (HIB) will become home to the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB), the Science I Creativity I Education Studio (SciCEd) and the Innovation and Collaboration Centre (ICC). Artist s Impression - Health Innovation Building, University of & The CCB carries out a world class program of research, making breakthrough discoveries in the fundamental causes of cancer, and translating these discoveries into new ways to prevent and treat the disease. The purpose-built SciEd will transform public perception of and participation in science technology and innovation. A partnership between UniSA, the Government of and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the ICC helps business and industry turn their ideas into market success. 15

Artist s Impression University of Adelaide Health & Sciences Building THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE HEALTH & MEDICAL SCIENCES BUILDING The largest building project in the University of Adelaide s history that is transforming health treatment, training and discovery. & The new Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building opens in early 2017. With 1600 medical, nursing and dental students it will become an epicentre of clinical teaching in addressing some of the world s greatest challenges. The building will house 400 research staff, across four levels of integrated laboratories, where they will undertake groundbreaking research to address problems such as cancer, the symptoms of chronic diseases and ageing, and improving reproduction and children s health. 16

Holiday Inn Adelaide Express Aloft Adelaide Victoria Square ADELAIDE Sheraton North Adelaide & 17 OTHER MAJOR PROJECTS NEW HOTELS Adelaide s capacity for hotel accommodation continues to grow in line with the convention and events infrastructure, and when all current projects are complete there will be over 6,500 rooms available to delegates and organisers across Adelaide s CBD. In 2018 the new 5-star 245 suite Sofitel Hotel Adelaide will open in central to be joined by the new 245 room Holiday Inn Express, the 240 room Lester Hotel (Choice Hotels), and the 200 guest room Aloft Adelaide (Starwood Hotels and Resorts). Furthermore, recent announcements indicate Starwood Hotels and Resorts plans to open a Sheraton property in North Adelaide by 2019, adding a further 160 rooms to the city s accommodation mix. RUNDLE MALL A city block comprising the longest shopping mall in Australia along with a labyrinth of laneways, arcades and alleys has completed a progressive and extensive redevelopment. The revitalised mall has attracted an array of global brands ranging from Apple to Tiffany & Co, in addition to more than 700 retailer shops, 15 arcades and centres and four major department stores. VICTORIA SQUARE A $24 million rejuvenation of Victoria Square as an accessible, lively and people-focused space, was completed in early 2014 and is now used by many events such as Adelaide Fringe Festival, Tour Down Under and Tasting Australia.
