VOLUNTEER PARK PLAYGROUND REQUEST FOR DESIGN PROPOSAL (RFD) Background: Key Pen Parks would like to replace existing play equipment at Volunteer Park. Project: Volunteer Park Playground Project Project Location: Volunteer Park 5514 Key Peninsula HWY N, Lakebay WA 98349 Proposal due date: Wednesday October 3, 2018, 1:00 p.m. Please submit proposals to: Volunteer Park Playground C/o Key Pen Parks 5514 Key Peninsula HWY N PO BOX 70 Lakebay WA 98349 Site: Volunteer Park is the oldest park in Key Pen Parks system. Built in the late 70 s, the park has 3 baseball fields, a skateboard park, ½ basketball court, 9 hold disc golf course, horseshoe pits, picnic shelter, swings, playground, concession stand, park maintenance shop, and Key Pen Parks offices. The existing playground is flat and level. Key Pen Parks staff will remove existing equipment (the existing Playcraft Duo-Spring Fling will be retained and repositioned based upon design), prep site, and remove trees to increase play area to approximately 55 feet X 50 feet. The proposed play structures and elements, including safe zones, should fit within the footprint, or smaller area. All elements shall be handicap accessible. Project Summary: Key Pen Parks is planning to upgrade the current playground area at Volunteer Park. Key Pen Parks would like to see items that are natural in character and color that fit the surrounding area, but not necessarily natural materials. The upgraded playground shall provide flexibility with varied activities to maintain user interest. Changes in levels, obstacles, and play elements that can be changed by users or require social interaction are encouraged. Universal accessibility is the goal. Key Pen Parks would like to see the following components included in the design: Stepping items (mushrooms, rocks, trees) Climbing items (rocks, climbing wall, net/cable structures) Tunnels Elements which test balance, strength and agility. Spinners (single and multiple riders operated by adult or children) Ropes (free standing as well as rope to rocks) Slides Themed Playgrounds o Tree house Budget: $50,000 for equipment, shipping and sales tax. Installation not included in budget Engineered wood fiber surfacing and boarder not included in budget Installation Options: 1. Provide a price for complete installation of new equipment and reinstallation/relocation of the Playcraft Duo Spring Fling. 2. Provide a price for community-build installation of new equipment and reinstallation/relocation of the Playcraft Duo Spring Fling 3. Provide a price for installation of new equipment and reinstallation/relocation of the Playcraft Duo Spring Fling. Key Pen Parks staff would complete installation.
