Each week is packed with an amazing variety of activities including multiple field trips to exciting places. SUMMER YOUTH SPORTS Kids who participate in week-long Summer Sports at the Y discover so much more than their athletic abilities. They build character, develop self-confidence and create healthy relationships. The program is designed to reflect the Y s core values caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through positive competition. Kids of all skill levels and abilities can choose from a variety of sports to explore this summer. SOCCER Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 27, August 15 and August 29 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids learn the basic skills and techniques of soccer and improve on those skills as they learn to play every position. Our staff works through a curriculum with kids on ball-control, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing their own shin guards and plastic cleats. TENNIS Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of July 11 and July 25 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids will develop and improve their tennis techniques and skills: forehand, backhand, serving, anticipating the ball and play strategies. They ll play a set or two as they learn the rules and unique scoring. Participants are encouraged to bring their own racquet. Tennis balls are provided. 6 LACROSSE Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of July 18 and August 1 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Our lacrosse instruction is designed to stimulate a kid s love of the game through focus on skills, drills and rules of the game. FLAG FOOTBALL Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of July 25 and August 22 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids play every position and learn the basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing, capturing the flag, punting and kicking off a tee. Our focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship and learning the game without contact or tackling. VOLLEYBALL Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of July 5* and August 22 *No session July 4 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids learn about the sport of volleyball including: rules, communication skills, serving, setting and bumping. Players work through a progression of skills while learning the importance of team work. TRACK AND FIELD Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 13 and July 11 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids learn the proper techniques of running, pacing, jumping and throwing. They will work on personal bests and learn about track and field greats and their success.

BASKETBALL Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 13, July 18 and August 29 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Players will progress through the skills of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills through drills. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 20 and August 8 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Participants develop and improve skills: throwing, catching, pitching, hitting and running bases. FLOOR HOCKEY Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 20 and August 15 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids can improve their stick handling, passing and shooting skills through drills and our hockey curriculum. SWIM/DIVE Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of July 5* and August 8 *No session July 4 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Kids will have fun and improve their fundamental and advanced stroke swim skills including start and turn techniques, as well as instruction on diving. The Y s certified instructors use a nationally recognized learn to swim curriculum. GOLF Entering grades K 6 in fall, 2016 Weeks of June 27 and August 1 Member Participants: $195/week Non-Member Program Participants: $220/week Participants learn about proper grips, stances and alignment for setting up a great shot. We will practice on a local golf course where young golfers will have an opportunity to work with golf course staff to improve their driving, chipping and putting. June 20 24 This Place is a Zoo Walk on the wild side while you learn about the animals around us. Art projects, games and field trips make the week so much fun! June 27 July 1 Just Add Water Our regular camp games get a wet twist! We ll play games like Sponge Tag, Water Balloon Volleyball, Water Hose Limbo, take field trips and have fun with Noodle Sprinklers in the pool. July 5 July 8 Pay It Forward Make a difference and have a load of fun, too! This week is filled with having skill-building fun while helping others. Field trips and guest speakers help us help others. July 11 15 Minnesota Madness Find out what makes the great state of Minnesota so GREAT! Field trips help us discover our impressive state. Find expanded themes, activities and field trip information online at ymcadiscoversummer.org 8 SWIM ACADEMY LESSONS NOW OFFERED DURING SUMMER POWER Now kids can take YMCA Swim Academy group swimming lessons during their time at Summer Power. The weekly swim lessons occur during regularly scheduled Summer Power swim days, at open swim time over seven weeks. Swimming lessons are 30 minutes for ages 3-5 and 40 minutes for ages 6+. Swim students still get over an hour of free swim time! Small class sizes ensure student-centered swim instruction. YMCA certified instructors use a nationally recognized learn-to-swim curriculum. We will use popular bike and city maps to navigate the wonderful trails using the best safety practices. Campers also plan an all-day bike trip. Campers must bring a bike and helmet. Bikes will be transported by a bus trailer and locked up at camp M F. The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes provides the scene for shoreline fishing fun. Campers learn the basics of fishing techniques through the catch and release method. With some luck, kids will bring home pictures of their trophies. Fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided but campers may bring their own pole if they wish. This camp features a special guided trip on a voyageur canoe provided by the Wargo Nature Center. Instructors teach proper grip, stance, and aim alignment. Campers will discover their eye dominance, the first step in becoming a skilled archer. This camp will feature a field trip to Bwana Archery. Archery Camp uses more advanced equipment such as Genesis Bows. Equipment is provided. Participants will learn and develop camp skills needed to lead camper activities, including personal development through confidence building and responsibility management, as well as group development through activity planning and event organization. They ll have opportunities to shadow counselors of younger campers and assist staff in their camp activities. There will also be plenty of time to hang out with friends new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective! JR. COUNSELOR PROGRAM: Take the next step in your journey to becoming a young leader at Camp Heritage! Campers need to complete one session of L.I.T s and must be entering 10 th or 11 th grade. Following L.I.T. graduation, campers will receive a Junior Counselor Application. Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the WI Dells. We ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike, swim and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. LANESBORO BIKING AND CAVE TOUR Offered July 12 14 (3-day session) Member Participants: $340/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $360/3-day session This adventure begins at Mystery Cave State Park near Lanesboro, where we ll set up camp. Then we go underground to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation s most unique caves. We ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the Root River. Participants will learn a bit about nature and history at each stop. Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We ll enjoy the park s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River. Campers will spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Zip Line Adventures soaring from station to station. Then we ll experience a night sleeping in the Yurt at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. Here we will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway! NORTH SHORE KAYAK AND ALPINE SLIDE TOUR Offered July 26 28 (3-day session) Member Participants: $340/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $360/3-day session The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things to see and do there! We ll spend two nights camping at Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include riding the alpine slide, hiking and exploring. On Wednesday campers will spend the day in a guided kayak tour to local islands. This is a trip you don t want to miss! 20 My daughter enjoyed the activities and the camp experience.
