Swim students still get over an hour of free swim time! Small class sizes ensure student-centered swim instruction. YMCA certified instructors use a nationally recognized learn-to-swim curriculum. It s all fun and games as campers learn to play a variety of outdoor games with a camp twist. This camp keeps kids active and learning about lifetime games. Campers learn to play Kickball, Volleyball, Disc Golf, Gaga Ball and new camp games. This camp is a safe, fun, non-competitive program designed to build leadership skills and self-esteem through team work. A special field trip is planned each week. In this fun camp, kids explore the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes on safe and fun bike paths. Kids also learn the basic parts of a bike and how to maintain it. We will use popular bike and city maps to navigate the wonderful trails using the best safety practices. Campers also plan an all-day bike trip. Campers must bring a bike and helmet. Bikes will be transported by a bus trailer and locked up at camp M F. CLIMBING CAMP Entering grades 4 6 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $190/week Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week Weeks of June 13, June 27, July 18, August 1 and August 15 Campers embark on a climbing adventure! Campers will gain new skills and self-confidence every day through a variety of climbing activities. Campers strike out on an adventure as they test their strength, strategy, and skill against our climbing tower. During these sessions, climbers learn safety procedures, belay techniques, knot tying and proper climbing techniques. This camp will feature a field trip. At each YMCA Specialty Camp, day campers spend approximately two hours of each day in their specialized activity. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying Traditional Camp activities. NEW ARCHERY RANGE! FISHING CAMP Entering grades 4 6 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $185/week Non-Member Program Participants: $210/week Weeks of June 13, July 5*, July 25 and August 15 *No session July 4 Don t let this camp be the one that got away! The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes provides the scene for shoreline fishing fun. Campers learn the basics of fishing techniques through the catch and release method. With some luck, kids will bring home pictures of their trophies. Fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided but campers may bring their own pole if they wish. This camp features a special guided trip on a voyageur canoe provided by the Wargo Nature Center. ARCHERY AND SLINGSHOT CAMP Entering grades 4 6 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $185/week Non-Member Program Participants: $210/week Weeks of June 20, July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22 While learning the fundamentals of archery, campers examine equipment close up, identify the parts of the bow and arrow and learn the science behind drawing the bow and releasing the arrow. Instructors teach proper grip, stance, and aim alignment. Campers will discover their eye dominance, the first step in becoming a skilled archer. This camp will feature a field trip to Bwana Archery. Archery Camp uses more advanced equipment such as Genesis Bows. Equipment is provided. LEADERS IN TRAINING CAMP Entering grades 9 11 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $195/Two-week session Non-Member Program Participants: $220/Two-week session *Includes overnight at Camp Heritage Two-Week Sessions of June 20 and July 25 Teens rise to the challenge of Leaders-in-Training Camp and discover their leadership qualities. Participants will learn and develop camp skills needed to lead camper activities, including personal development through confidence building and responsibility management, as well as group development through activity planning and event organization. They ll have opportunities to shadow counselors of younger campers and assist staff in their camp activities. There will also be plenty of time to hang out with friends new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective! JR. COUNSELOR PROGRAM: Take the next step in your journey to becoming a young leader at Camp Heritage! Campers need to complete one session of L.I.T s and must be entering 10 th or 11 th grade. Following L.I.T. graduation, campers will receive a Junior Counselor Application. Joe Y camper TEEN FISHING CAMP Entering grades 6 8 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $190/week Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week Weeks of June 27 and August 22 Don t let this camp be the one that got away! The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes provides the scene for shoreline fishing fun. Campers learn new techniques in casting; lure choice and fish identification. With some luck, kids will bring home pictures of their trophies. Campers are encouraged to bring their own pole if they wish but fishing poles, tackle and bait are provided. This camp features a special guided trip on a voyageur canoe provided by the Wargo Nature Center. TEEN CANOEING CAMP Entering grades 6 8 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $190/week Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week Weeks of July 11 and August 15 Campers embark on a canoeing excursion full of adventure and challenges. Advanced safety drills and games will be taught and played on the water. Paddling techniques and teamwork will be essential in this fun camp. Campers learn the skills and importance of reading the river map as they plan their trip. The highlight of the week includes a full day of canoeing the St. Croix River! At each YMCA Specialty Camp, day campers spend approximately two hours of each day in their specialized activity. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying Traditional Camp activities. TEEN ARCHERY CAMP Entering grades 6 8 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $190/week Non-Member Program Participants: $215/week Weeks of June 13, July 18 and August 1 Campers discover the science behind drawing and releasing the bow while fine tuning their archery skills. Archery lessons take place on and off-site. Campers will receive a lesson from the experts on their field trip to Bwana Archery. Instructors teach proper grip, stance and aim alignment. Equipment will be provided. TEEN CLIMBING CAMP Entering grades 6 8 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $220/week Non-Member Program Participants: $245/week Weeks of June 20, July 5*, July 25 and August 8 *No session July 4 Campers test their strategy and skill through new fun challenges! Each day focuses on a new element or challenge including knot tying, safety and team work. This camp is designed to build self-confidence and teach valuable skills while enjoying an unforgettable adventure. Campers spend a day at Camp St. Croix s high teams challenge course. This camp will feature two field trips. The highlight of the week is a full day trip at Taylors Falls climbing the bluffs on the river. NEW! TEEN OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Entering grades 6 8 in fall, 2016 Member Participants: $200/week Non-Member Program Participants: $225/week Weeks of July 11 and August 8 Campers strike out on a bold adventure of climbing and canoeing as they test their strength, strategy and skill through a week of their favorite outdoor activities. The essential skills of map reading, knot tying and outdoor cooking will be taught early as the group plans their trip. This exciting camp allows kids to create and implement a fun outing through the exploration of their favorite outdoor activities. Previous experience climbing and canoeing is beneficial. This camp will feature on overnight trip of climbing and canoeing on the St. Croix River! Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the WI Dells. We ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike, swim and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us for this thrilling outdoor adventure! LANESBORO BIKING AND CAVE TOUR Offered July 12 14 (3-day session) Member Participants: $340/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $360/3-day session This adventure begins at Mystery Cave State Park near Lanesboro, where we ll set up camp. Then we go underground to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation s most unique caves. We ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the Root River. ZIP LINE ADVENTURE Offered July 19 21 and August 9 11 (3-day session) Member Participants: $340/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $360/3-day session This adventure takes campers soaring! Participants will learn a bit about nature and history at each stop. Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We ll enjoy the park s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River. Campers will spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Zip Line Adventures soaring from station to station. Then we ll experience a night sleeping in the Yurt at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. Here we will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway! NORTH SHORE KAYAK AND ALPINE SLIDE TOUR Offered July 26 28 (3-day session) Member Participants: $340/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $360/3-day session The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things to see and do there! We ll spend two nights camping at Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include riding the alpine slide, hiking and exploring. On Wednesday campers will spend the day in a guided kayak tour to local islands. This is a trip you don t want to miss! 20 My daughter enjoyed the activities and the camp experience.
