White River Trails District 2017 Fall Camporee Friday, October 27 th Sunday, October 29 th, 2017 Spring Mill State Park 3333 State Road 60 East Mitchell, IN 47446 2017 marks the 50 th anniversary of the Apollo 1 tragedy, which claimed the lives of three former Boy Scouts, including Mitchell native Virgil I. Gus Grissom (Star Scout), Edward White (Second Class Scout), and Roger Chaffee (Eagle Scout). The 2017 Fall Camporee s theme is space exploration and astronomy. Before departing Spring Mill State Park on Sunday, consider touring Spring Mill s historic Pioneer Village with your Troop.

BSA REGISTRATION Each youth must be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America in order to participate in the events. A minimum of two adult leader per unit must be present in camp at all times. Youth Protection training, which must be current within the past two years, is required for all adults in attendance. FEES AND REGISTRATION Advance registration is required. Payment of $15 per person is due by 11:59pm on Sunday, October 8 th, 2017. Any registrations made after that date, regardless of when the rest of the group registered, will be charged $20 per person. Registration for the 2017 Fall Camporee will close on Wednesday, October 25 th at 11:59pm. PARK ENTRANCE FEES Troops will be responsible for their own park entrance fees. The entrance fees are as follows: - $7 per personal vehicle with Indiana license plate - $2 per person riding in commercial vehicles (buses, vans, etc.) CHECK-IN PROCEDURE Units may check in at any time between 6-8pm on Friday in the Spring Mill Campground. Proceed to the Primitive Camping Area, located at the north end of the Spring Mill Campground. Signs will be posted to help guide you to the camping area. Upon arrival at the Primitive Camping Area, a completed unit roster and any additional registration fees are required. The unit roster form is the last page of this booklet. Once units are checked in, they will be assigned a primitive campsite. Each campsite has a gravel parking area. Units are allowed one truck/trailer combo or two vehicles per campsite. The number of campsites assigned to your unit will be determined by the number of Scouts/adults who are registered for the event. We expect to use one campsite per 6-8 campers. Parking on the grass or main road is not permitted. An overflow parking area is available near the campground s gatehouse. MEALS All meals will be provided by the units themselves and are to be prepared and consumed within the unit s campsite. Leave No Trace principles should be followed when cooking and cleaning up, so that no food residue is left for wildlife consumption.

WATER Water will be available in the campground area. FIREWOOD You can bring firewood into Spring Mill State Park if one of the following applies: 1. It is kiln-dried scrap lumber. 2. It is from your home or other location in Indiana and has the bark removed. 3. It is purchased from a department store, grocery store, gas station, etc., and bears a USDA compliance stamp. 4. It is purchased from a local firewood vendor outside the property and has a state compliance stamp with it. 5. It is purchased from the property s camp store and has a state compliance stamp. The Park will begin cutting dead trees in the campground area this fall, and they anticipate some of this wood being available for units to use. Some cutting and/or splitting may be necessary. Units will need to transport the firewood from the Park s storage area, located immediately south of the camp store (near the old saddle barn) to their campsite. TRASH DISPOSAL Dumpsters will be available near the campground s gatehouse for disposal of bagged trash. RESTROOMS Vault toilet restrooms will be available in the Primitive Camping Area and the Youth Tent Area. The restrooms located in the main campground area south of the Primitive Camping Area are not to be used during the Camporee, as we are not paying for this privilege. GRISSOM MEMORIAL VISIT During Session 2 or 3 on Saturday, Units will be assigned a specific time to visit the Grissom Memorial. Units are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the Grissom Memorial, and Scouts must be appropriately supervised during their visit.

TRADING POSTS We anticipate having two trading posts at this camporee. 1. Bloomington Scout Shop Items typically found in their store will be available for purchase on site. 2. White River Trails Chapter, Order of the Arrow Drinks/candy/snack foods. Proceeds from the OA s trading post will help purchase a White River Trails District Legacy Post for the OA Circle at Camp Maumee. Please inform your Scouts that these two vendors will be at the camporee!
