Newsletter of the Georgia Mountaineers Chapter of FMCA May 14-17, 2014 Pine Mountain RV Resort Pine Mountain, GA Hosts: Linda Callas, Marie Lester, John & June Huffman Pine Mountain RV Resort is a very well kept RV Resort. It is very nice and clean. It is about three miles from Callaway Gardens and the Town of Pine Mountain. FDR State Park is close by as well as Warm Springs, Roosevelt s Little White House. Also close by is Wild Animal Safari and city of LaGrange. It has a nice activity center for hosting rallies. It is modernized with plenty of space. It is convenient to get in and out of on Highway 27. It has a variety of sight-seeing choices that are close by. There are many good dining choices also. Some Very Important History: At the Pine Mountain Rally back in 2005, the Georgia Mountaineers, for the first time as a group, went to eat at a Mexican restaurant. This historic event took place on Wednesday, June the 15th, and the place was the San Marcos Mexican Restaurant, just down the road from the RV park in Pine Mountain. It was Margarita night and almost everyone took advantage of the Wednesday night special. This monumental step forward was arranged by John Huffman, the Rally Co-Host. John and June were first introduced to Mexican food earlier in the year at the SEA Rally in Brooksville, Florida. After this monumental step, Mexican restaurants have become frequent entries on the monthly Rally Agendas. However, it wasn't until April 2010, that June enjoyed her very first Fried Ice Cream dessert. Members Camping: Ken & Margie Alexander, Dan & Jeanie Baer, Ted & Martha Barrett, Linda Callas & Marie Lester, Dorris & Ethel Carpenter, Don & Peggy Crump, Dave & Brenda Dillon, Ed & Patricia Durrence, Paul & Madonna Holko, John & June Huffman, Virginia Jackson, Fred & Shirley Lee, John & Sandra Long, Jim & Karen Mathis, Jerry & Irene McKellar, Ray Rowe & Rob Hicks, Mack & Joyce Thompson, Jack & Chris White, Ed & Young Williams, Greg & Rose Zaic.

Visitors Camping: First Time Visitors: Jim & Carline Grove of Kennesaw, GA arrived Wednesday and departed Friday and they are pictured first. Yuri & Anita Schilin of Ellijay, GA arrived Wednesday and departed Saturday and I did not get a picture of them. Paul & Marsha Burlack of Gainesville, GA arrived Saturday and they are pictured second. Sunday: The Thompsons were the first arrivals for the rally. Monday: The day brought several arrivals including Ted & Martha Barrett, Dorris & Ethel Carpenter, Ed & Patricia Durrence, Jerry McKellar, Jack & Chris White and Ed Williams. A group of 9 people went to San Marcos Mexican Restaurant for dinner. All of Monday s arrivals went to dinner with the exception of Ed Williams who was just getting set up. Tuesday: More coaches arrived today which included Linda Callas & Marie Lester, Dave and Brenda Dillon, Paul & Madonna Holko, John & June Huffman, Fred and Shirley Lee, John & Sandra Long, Ray Rowe & Rob Hicks. People were taking in the local sightseeing such as beautiful Callaway Gardens and other places. A group of 19 people went to Crickets for dinner to include Charles & Barbara Grantham of Lagrange, GA (cousins of the Barretts). Crickets is a restaurant specializing in New Orleans cuisine. It has been in business for 35 years. Some ordered Jambalaya, Gumbo, French Onion Soup, Tilapia, Hamburger, and Fish & Chips. They put complimentary bread on the table. The group included: Ted & Martha Barrett, Charles & Barbara Grantham, Dorris & Ethel Carpenter, Dave & Brenda Dillon, Ed & Patricia Durrence, Fred & Shirley Lee, John & Sandra Long, Jerry & Irene McKellar, Jack & Chris White, and Ed Williams. The thanks for the food were given by Jack White. Wednesday: The rest of the coaches arrived today which was Alexanders, Baers, Crumps, Virginia Jackson, Mathises, and Zaics. Also visitors Jim & Carline Grove, and Yuri & Anita Schilin arrived today. This brought the number of coaches up to 22. The rally officially began today at 3 PM where we had a meet and greet at the pavilion. The visitors, Yuri & Anita Schilin of Ellijay and Jim & Carline Grove of Kennesaw were introduced and welcomed by Ted Barrett. John Huffman welcomed everyone and gave information about the agenda changes. The hosts had packets of information about the area on the tables for

each coach. John Huffman introduced Brenda Sellers, group/activities director for Pine Mountain RV Resort. She welcomed us and told us to let her know if they could make our stay any better. Then it was time for snacks of chips & dip, cookies and soft drinks. It was time to chit chat and catch up with each other. Everyone seemed to enjoy the fellowship. There was an Executive Board Meeting at 4:00 p.m. in the pavilion to talk about possible changes to the Standing Rules. This was in preparation for the Business Meeting on Saturday morning. The minutes of these meetings will be posted to the Georgia Mountaineer website when finalized. We did not finish the Executive Board Meeting so another session was scheduled. At 6:00 a group of 18 caravanned to 27 th Grill for dinner that evening. There was a group of 18 people for a small restaurant but both the staff and our group survived. John Long gave the blessing for the food. Those going to 27 th Grill were Barretts, Linda Callas, Carpenters, Virginia Jackson, Lees, Longs, McKellars, Schilins, Whites, and Zaics. Others went to Block House and various other places. It started raining in the afternoon and didn t stop so no activities were held in the pavilion. Everyone stayed in their coach hoping that the heavy rain would be gone by morning. Thursday: We woke up to a windy and cooler day with the temperature in the 60 s. Some did local sightseeing while others went shopping or antiquing or stayed in their coaches. The first fire in the fire pit was going by around noon or before. Lunch was on your own today. At 2:00 it was time for an Ice Cream Social at the pavilion provided by Apalachee RV Center. Mr. Dave Kobos gave us a presentation about RV maintenance which included gas and diesel additives, tire information, coach handling and things they can do to make the coach handle better. He provided a demonstration with test tubes by putting gas and water in the test tubes then adding different additives and showing the effect of the additive on the water and gas. It was a very informative presentation. It was also nice to see Young Williams join us after a visit abroad. Welcome back Young! At 6:00 PM we were treated to soup provided by the hosts. We brought salad, sandwiches and desserts to go with the soup. The thanks for the food was given by Dorris Carpenter. Everyone was able to socialize and meet the visitors. Afterwards the fire was still going from the afternoon and there were some Hand and Foot card playing and a Fast Track game going on in the pavilion. The ladies won the Hand and Foot game while the men won one game and the ladies won one game of Fast Track.

Friday: The weather was nice but windy today with temperatures in the 70 s. The Executive Board met at 9:00 in the pavilion in preparation for Saturday s Business Meeting. At 11:00 we left in a caravan for Warm Springs to have lunch at the Bulloch House Restaurant. It was buffet bar with several good choices on the menu including Fried Chicken, Fried Catfish, Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Apples which were very good. Several stayed in Warm Springs to sight see Roosevelt s Little White House, the Warm Springs pool and antique shops... Dinner was on our own tonight so people ate at various places. Several people were going to Eddie Mae s Kountry Kitchen for the seafood buffet. There was a fire in the fire pit along with Hand & Foot card games. There were two tables of Hand and Foot. Saturday: We had to be up bright and early for breakfast at the pavilion. John s famous gravy biscuits were served along with coffee, cereal, fruit, danish, bagels, and other items. At 10:00 it was time for a chapter business meeting and the minutes will be posted in the Secretary s Lounge on the website. Reports were given about the SEA Rally in Brooksville in February, FMCA Rally in Perry in March as well as reports from all of the officers. Lunch and Dinner was on our own. First time visitors Paul & Marsha Burlack from Gainesville, Ga arrived today. We want to thank them and hope they come back to visit with us again. The total number of coaches camping at this rally is 23. A group of about 27 went to San Marcos Mexican Restaurant for dinner. John Long gave thanks for the food. Everyone enjoyed the food and there was plenty of it. When we returned from the Mexican Restaurant, there was a fire in the fire pit and two tables of Hand and Foot played in the pavilion. Sunday: The weather was beautiful as we gathered at the pavilion for coffee, cereal, danish, biscuits, bagels, strawberries and bananas. Around 9:30 AM, we had a short devotional by John Long. Then it was time to say our goodbyes, and except for a few staying over to Monday, hit the road on the way home or other places. A Great Big THANK YOU goes to our Co-Hosts Marie Lester, Linda Callas, and John & June Huffman. In

closing, we want to thank our Visitors for attending our Rally. We hope you had a good time and will come back again. This is the time of the year when many will be making extended trips. Jerry and Laura Eaves are on a trip out west now. This is Ted and Martha s and Jack & Chris s last rally for a few months as they travel on an exciting trip to Alaska. We will be waiting for the updates about the trip so we can enjoy their trip also through words and pictures. We wish for everyone safe travels. Announcements: We still need someone to host the Christmas Party. If you want to host the Christmas Party, you get to select the location, date and time. Let Jack White know.
