Scuttlebutt WWW.SOONERMODELA.ORG HAPPY NEW YEAR Presidents Message Model A Friends: We are starting another year and we remember fondly the fun and fellowship we had last year. We started 2017 with our annual inspection day at Bill Harris Garage. This is a popular event. If you are new to the Model A Club, then you don t want to miss inspection day. Some of our most experienced members will be there to help you check your car and show you some maintenance procedures that you can do. We will check fluid levels, lights, steering and brakes. Our members can show you how to adjust the brakes and how to set the ignition timing. They can instruct you in the use of the GAV (gas adjusting valve) and the spark advance. This year s inspection day will be January 27 at Bill Harris Garage. Many of us will meet at Jim s Café at 9:00 AM for breakfast and then move to Harris garage at 10:00 AM. We will adjourn to San Marcos for lunch. Bring your car if possible, but if not possible you can still watch and learn while we inspect other cars. Our spring tour this year will be to Elk City, Oklahoma where we will visit the Route 66 Museum. Our hosts will be Kent and Jeanne Washburn of the Tulsa Club. Details are given in this issue of the Scuttlebutt. If you check the listing of the 2018 board on this page, you will see that it is incomplete. We are in need of a vice president after VaughnCille Weidner found that she would be unable to be our vice president. This is an important office and we need someone to step up and help the club. We also need someone to be in charge of demonstrations at our monthly meetings. I am looking forward to another fun year of fellowship and driving our Model A s. I hope to see you on the road in 2018. CHRISTMAS DINNER 2017 Attendees were greeted by our President, VaughnCille Weidner, at our annual Christmas dinner. Food was provided by Swadley s. Christmas gifts were provided by the members who elected to participate in Dirty Santa event. Even though attendance was down this year due to illness the members enjoyed the dinner and opening of the gifts. One of the most popular gifts was a bottle of wine that seemed to pass from the original individual to a second individual very quickly. I guess many of our members really like grapes. As the evening closed, many members remembered Marvin Rusty Swain who was one of the early members of the Sooner Model A Club. He has left us with so many wonderful memories.
