INTRODUCTION The YardWorks Foot Pedal Hose Reel eliminates the problem of tangled hoses and brings the joy back into watering your gardens and lawns. It provides secure storage for 30 metres of house, keeps the hose protected from the elements and helps it to retract without any kinks or knots. The simple foot pedal operation allows easy hose winding without the need for bending whilst the auto-track will ensure the hose winds evenly every time. A slim line design and folding handle allow convenient storage in confined spaces whilst the combination of large wheels and ergonomic handle allow easy maneuvering around the garden. ASSEMBLY 1. Fit the wheels (10) into the slots at the base of the hose reel. Then pull the wheels by hand to make sure they are fixed correctly to the main housing case (Fig.1). Ensure you install the left wheel on the left side of the unit and the right wheel on the right side of the unit. The left and right wheels are clearly marked and easily identified with labels. Fig. 1 2. Install the inlet hose (3) onto the body of the reel housing and connect another end with the source of water (Fig.2). Fig. 2 OPERATION 1. Unfold the handle (7) and lift it into the upright position until the handle locks into place (Fig.3). Fig. 3 2. To lower the handle (7) press the handle release button (6) and fold the handle down onto the top cover (4). This allows the unit to be easily stored when not in use. 3. To open the storage compartment (8) simply lift the lip of the flap. The storage compartment allows you to store your hose connectors and accessories in one convenient place. 5
OPERATION (cont.) 4. When transporting the hose reel please note that it can only be pulled or turned in a reverse direction as shown by the arrow (Fig.4). Fig. 4 5. When pulling out the hose hold the hose stop (1) then pull the hose to the desired length you require. When pulling out the hose ensure you pull the hose at an even speed rate. Pulling at a rapid speed rate may disturb the auto tracking system (Fig.5). Fig. 5 6. When rewinding the hose hold the trigger nozzle (11) and move towards the hose reel (Fig. 6). When the trigger nozzle (11) is near the body of the hose reel start retracting the hose. Take a firm grip of the handle (7) and place your foot on the foot pedal (9). Depress the foot pedal (9) evenly in a downwards motion, allow the pedal to return to it s upward position, before depressing again (Fig.7). Follow this procedure until the hose is fully retracted. OPERATION TIPS 1. When depressing the foot pedal (9) do not force the foot pedal or use sudden jerking motions. 2. The hose reel should be placed on a flat surface, avoid down hill slopes as this may lead to poor hose retraction or failure of the retraction system. 3. When you are pulling out the hose do not step on the foot pedal (9) this may cause the hose to lock-up and be difficult to pull out. 4. When the hose retraction is completed be careful not to add any extra pressure to the foot pedal (9). This can cause damage to the mechanism and place pressure on the housing from the hose stop. 5. If the hose reel is not retracting correctly this may be a result of a twist in the hose or garden material blocking the reel. It is necessary to extend the hose to its full length then retract the hose for a few operations. Repeat this a number of times until the hose retracts correctly. 6. If the hose locks or jams in the process of retracting the hose pull out the hose to its full length and repeat the retraction process.. 7. If the hose locks up or jams in the process of pulling out, press the foot pedal (9) to make it revert into it s original postion. Pull out the hose once again (Fig. 7). 8. If you want to check the status of inner structure, you can hold the front section of the top cover (4) and open it by lifting up along the direction of the arrowhead (Fig.9). 9. When not in use turn off the source of water and press the trigger nozzle to release the water pressure. 10. The reel cannot be used to transmit any chemicals or substances. 11. When not in use for a extended period it is recommended that you store the hose in a protective environment. 7
REPLACING THE HOSE IMPORTANT: Please note that replacing the hose to the unit will void your warranty. If you want to replace the existing hose with another hose follow the instructions below. Ensure the unit is disconnected from the water source. 1. The size of the new hose must be the same Fig. 8 size as the original hose on the unit. 2. Unfold the handle (7) (Fig. 4). 3. Take off the top cover (4) (Fig.9). 4. Remove the original hose from the reel by following these steps: (a) Pull out the full length of the hose (Fig.8). (b) Using safety gloves and protective Fig. 9 eyewear hold one side of the hose reel. Loosen screw from the hose clamp on the outlet (Fig.10). (c) Hold one end of the reel to make the reel turn at a slow speed until it stops (Fig.10). WARNING: In the above process b & c, you must hold the reel firmly to avoid potential injury caused by the fast running reel. Fig. 10 8
REPLACING THE HOSE (cont.) Installing a new hose on the reel Note: It is recommended a heat gun be used in the installation process by heating up the hose before putting it on the reel. Before installing a new hose, the hose guide should be adjusted as what is shown in Fig. 11. The hose guide must move in the direction of the arrow as indicated in Fig. 11 when the reel is retracted. Install the new hose to the outlet on the reel, screw down the hose clamp tightly. Remove the hose stop (1) from the existing hose and install onto the new hose in its original position. Put the new hose without water straightly on the ground, and retract the full length of the hose. Hose Guide Fig. 11 9
