As you know, we begin each meeting at 6:00 pm with a catered dinner from the Barbeque Pit and the cost is a very reasonable $11.00. You should be there to pick up your latest 2017 Membership Roster (if they re ready) and we hope to meet some new families to our club. Showing at the Museum Now showing: First Responser Vehicles Coming Next: To be announced Cookie Providers: Janna Laughon Chuck West Beware the Red Dot Thanks to all who have already renewed your membership for 2017. However, there are a few who haven t and as you know, you won t find your name and membership data listed in the 2017 Membership Roster. If you find a RED DOT on your address label, or if you receive an e- mail message that we haven t heard from you yet, then please send in your renewal (we can always add your name in later). We hold things open until after the Big-3 Swap meet at the end of February, but that was last month and you won t find your name if you didn t see us then. NOTE: If you find a red dot and you know you have renewed, please contact the editor to correct the error. The Ruckstell Review is the monthly publication of the Model T Ford Club of San Diego. Annual dues are $20. The club holds a dinner meeting on the second Wednesday in odd numbered months and tours during even numbered months. The date of the next event can be obtained by calling any of the club officers or by checking the Upcoming Events listing in this issue. The club is a Chapter of the Model T Ford Club of America, P.O. Box 126, Centerville, IN 47330-0126. Membership information for the 'National' can again be obtained from any officer. The main publication of the MTFCA is the Vintage Ford, which alone is well worth the national dues of $40 per year. Lifetime memberships are also available. President s Message We are starting a new chapter in the history of our club and I am honored and looking forward to serving as president for 2017. The new board met on February 8 th and considered upcoming activities for the year. Eric and Jennifer Sayer are hosting the first event at the Naval Air Facility El Centro on March 10 th and 11 th. This outing will consist of a place to display our cars on the base, an air show highlighted by the Blue Angles, a barbeque on Saturday, and a tour on Sunday. Other events coming up or in the planning stages include Cathy Rising s presentation at the Bakersfield Swap Meet (April 6-8), a tour to the Campo Train Museum, the Alpine History Day Tour, an event at the Del Mar Fair, and the Fourth of July Parade in Coronado. I have invested in a projector that will be used at the general meetings to share memories of outings with current and past members in their historic artifacts (Model T s) that are still faithfully out in the sun working for a living. I hope to see you all on March 8 th at the general meeting at the San Diego Auto Museum. Come prepared for an excellent barbeque dinner, a time of visiting with friends, and an informative meeting. Sincerely, Jerry Yeadon, President Sunshine (and Showers) Report Vic Terrell has had back surgery and home recovering. Stephanie is going into the hospital for hip replacement in March. Let s remember them in your prayers and thoughts for both to have speedy recoveries. Florine Galdi is still in pain after wrist surgery. Remember the Galdi family in your prayers and thoughts. Blan Klecan passed away on February 13. See her obituary on page 7. Heather Bowker is at home (02/17) after being at Pomerado ER for two days for removal of fluid. Hopefully resting better arfterwords. In his own words, Tony is shattered. Remember to call me at 949-492-4255 or email me at judynjohn@burrellteam.com when something happens, so I can send out cards or call. We care about all our members in the San Diego Model T Club. Ruckstell Review March 2017 Minutes of the General Meeting January 29, 2017 Installation Luncheon at The Butcher Shop Restaurant Start Time: 1:44 PM Following a fantastic luncheon at the Butcher Shop, out-going President, Eric, opened the meeting. Mckaela Sayer led the pledge of allegiance. Eric thanked everyone who helped made today special. He recognized last year s board and turned over the meeting to the incoming president, Jerry Yeadon, to introduce this year s officers. Jerry Yeadon President Jim Train Vice President Susie Murdoch Treasurer Janna Laughon Secretary Carolyn Lemler Membership Chair Kirby Pray Tour Chair Chuck West Editor Kirt Simpson Historian John Chapman Member at Large Judy Burrell Sunshine Chair Eric Sayer Past President Jack Chidgey announced that he has just finished building a 9 remote control model of the USS Missouri. He will take it out to Quivera Basin on Saturday, March 11, at 10:00 for a sail. Everyone is invited to join the fun! (Editor s Note: This date conflicts with the planned El Centro Tour so club members will have to make a decision as to where they want to be on March 11) It was announced that Eric Sayer was recently elected to the MTFCA National Board. CONGRATULATIONS ERIC! Club president Jerry encourages all of us to find new club members: Share our cars at schools or events to try to get people interested in the hobby. Talk to people you meet. You never know who might be interested! Chuck West gave a short reflection on former member, Don Chappelle, who made a meaningful impression on many members of our club in the 1980s - 90s. The Don Chappelle Award went to Kirby Pray for his continuing assistance to the club in the preceeding year. Well deserved Kirby! Greg asked for a moment of silence for Rodger Phillips who passed away this year. He asks members to keep in touch with his wife, Eleanor. Future Activities: Feb 8 Board Meeting at Denny s in La Mesa Next year s luncheon will be on the last Sunday in January 2018 at the same location. Following a spirited time of door prizes reception by the members, the meeting was adjourned at 2:52. Respectfully, Janna Laughon, Secretary 3

Minutes of the Board Meeting February 8, 2017 Held at Denny s Restaurant, La Mesa Present: Jerry and Ana Yeadon +1, Eric and Jennifer Sayer +2, Kirby Pray, Susie Murdock, John Chapman, Mac MacPherson, Jim Train, Chuck West. Excused: Janna Laughon Following another great Denny s meal, the meeting was opened at 7:15 by president Jerry Yeadon. Eric talked about the El Centro tour. All appears to be on track and we hope to have about 10 Model Ts there. He will be sending out further information by email. Time on base on March 11 will be from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Member at Large, John Chapman, noted that the SD Community College has a Achievement Automotive Scholarship program to provide a set of tools to younger first time graduates of their Mechanics program. He thought it might be good for us to discuss contributing to the program as a club project. He also noted the following events and dates: February 24-26 Big Three Swap Meet at Qualcomm Stadium April 19 through October Cajon Classic Cruse Every Wednesday, Main St., El Cajon May 1 through August Crusin with Jump n Jack Flash every Monday, Parkway Plaza, El Cajon Editor, Chuck West, noted that 17 current members have not renewed their membership for 2017. After discussion, it was determined that there would be at least one drop from the group and several board members volunteered to contact two or more on the list. We normally keep the membership rolls open through the Big Three Swap. Many are from the Arizona region. Chuck also noted the problem he was experiencing in converting the Ruckstell Review into a PDF format to email the newsletter to those who wanted it this way. No progress. Treasurer, Susie Murdock, reported that the club has sufficient funds to continue operations. A full accounting can be obtained from her on request. Tour Chm., Kirby Pray, thanked the members present as representatives of the club for his selection as Member of the Year and for receiving the Don Chappelle Trophy. He felt very honored. He noted the following dates for Tours and Events: March 11 - El Centro Tour (noted above) April 6-8 - Bakersfield Swap Meet. Cathy rising to give a presentation on her Russian artifacts. April 29 (?-TBA) - Campo Train Museum tour. Possible joint tour with HVMYFC June 3 - Alpine History Days July 2 - Del Mar Fair, Horseless Rodeo July 4 - Coronado Parade and other events VP, Jim Train, noted that he hopes to have both his Model T and Model A running by mid March. He again invited us to visit the Automobile Driving Museum in El Segundo where is a docent. They are open on Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm and have 130 cars, many of which are very rare. Pres., Jerry Yeadon, has been talking with the Historical Society of Chula Vista regarding a future visit with our cars for their historical value. He has collected a number of slides of recent club activities and would like to put on a slide show at a future meeting. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:19 pm. Respectrully, Chuck West, acting secretary 4

100 Year Old Twins For Sale Carryover 13/14 Touring - So identified by the present owner because of it s 14 body and 13 running gear. He had located the man in LA who restored it in the 60 s or 70 s, and, according to his research, had decided that it was original. It was made in 14 but Henry had some 13 engines and transmissions left over so he used them (very typical in a model year changeover - Ed.). So it is registered as a 13 because of the engine number. The owner states: The car is in good condition. Good tires, upholstery, body, paint and all. Just had the gas tank and radiator cleaned but have not started it since. I have no doubt that it will run just fine. Along with the car I have an 18 engine with all machine work done, babbiting done, crank, rods and pistons installed. All parts are there for a complete engine rebuild. I also have an 18 transmission completely rebuilt with a hogs head that takes a starter (also have a starter). In addition, I have 4 demountable rims. All the above goes with the car. Am asking $14,000.00 for everything, but will entertain any reasonable offer. (08/16 Rev, 01/17) David Peterson, (760) 519-1527 dpete6104@gmail.com Bob Bishop writes: This young lady from Coronado (above right) and my 1917 touring were both born the same day in Feb 1917. At one point in her life she was the Executive Assistant to President Harry Truman in the White House. We had the privilege of meeting her last week and enjoyed taking some pictures of her with our Model T. USS Missouri Sails Again If you are not going on the E Centro Tour on March 11, you might like to take in the sailing of Jack Chidgey s 9 foot model of the USS Missouri. It will be at the Model Yacht Basin in Mission Bay. Take Inghram St. north (from Sea World) and look for the sign pointing out the Model Yacht Basin (Vacation Island exit). Time is at 10:00 AM. These models are beautiful to see and their detail is amazing. Editor s Note: This ad has been continued by request of Dave Peterson as there has been no response so far. Dave Peterson was a longtime member of our club who moved to Yuma, AZ in 2006. Anyone should recognize the excellent opportunity this potential sale represents. IN MEMORIUM Blanquita Klecan November 1, 1933 - February 13, 2017 We all know her as Blan. She was born in Pauls Valley Oklahoma. She moved to San Diego in 1950 attending San Diego High School where she gratuated in 1951. After a year at the U of OK, Blan returned to San Diego entering San Diego Community College where she met her future husband in a math class. She married Gilbert J. Klecan on August 13, 1955. Blan was the heart of our family selflessly sharing her joy of living, sense of style, humor, and affection for animals. Always ready for an adventure, she traveled the world with her husband often riding in an antique car. Blan is survived by her husband, Gil, daughter Amy (Thomas Johnson), son, Thomas (Kristin) and 4 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Cathedral on Saturday, February 18th. (Editor s Note: Gil Klecan is a longtime member of the Model T Ford Club of San Diego, serving as president in 2012. He has been associated with the HCCA for many years as a board member 5 years, Treasurer 2 years, Secretary one year, VP 1 year, President 1 year, and Chairman three years. He was awarded the Marian Welch Service Award for outstanding service to the HCCA in 2002). Blast from the Past The year 2002-15 years ago Scott Lemler was president. Mac and Diane Macpherson had just got married. This also was a time when we had a booth at Big 3 swapmeet just for our club. It was also a time when the club had board meetings at Carolyn and Scott Lemler s house with a family meal. Times have changed but the club being a family has never changed. Kirt Simpson, Historian and friend 7
