2005-2006 ASHRAE Puerto Rico Chapter The first meeting for 2005-2006 was June XX, 2005. This meeting was a joint meeting with the USGBC Caribbean Chapter. Their President, Arq. Vincent Pieri, introduced to the audience what is the USGBC and its LEED system. The technical session title was Environmental Technology for Green Buildings: Facilities Wide, Performance Based, Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation and Control by Gordon Sharp, President and CEO of AirCuty. During September 30, 2006 Chapter jointly hosted with the Mechanical Contractor Association of Puerto Rico and the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos the technical seminar Introduction to Air Side Balancing. The instructor was David Rosa, PE. The seminar was hosted on the CIAPR Main Building at Hato Rey. Our October monthly meeting was hosted Thursday 13 with the theme of membership promotion night. During this meeting the new Board of Governors was presented. The attendance was 37 persons. During this meeting with had the pleasure of receiving the visit from Region s XII Membership Promotion RVC Traci Just. She talked about the different ASHRAE s membership programs and benefits. Also the Puerto Rico Board of Governors presented de goals of each of its permanent committees.

October 27, 2005 ASHRAE Puerto Rico Chapter with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos co-hosted the MCA Puerto Rico Table Top Show at the Caribe Hilton. In this activity companies presented their products to guests. The Chapter had a table, which it used for providing documents about ASHRAE and membership subscriptions. The activity was visited by 242 persons. Our regular meeting for November was hosted Thursday 10, and it had an attendance of 57 persons. The meeting had the technical presentation Part Load Control and Dehumidification for Package and Split DX Systems. The presenter was Mr. Richard Rawal from Rawal Devices, Inc. The Chapter had the pleasure of visiting the Mechanical Contractor Association of Puerto Rico regular meeting of November 17, 2005. During this visit the ASHRAE President Lee Burgett presented a speech to 34 attendees on the importance of the participation of contractors in ASHRAE. This meeting had the business presentation Property Insurance for Projects (Builder s Risk and Installation Floater) by Miguel Casellas- Sastre y Nelson Rey from Casellas & Comapany Insurance Brokers. Next day, November 18, Lee Burgett, ASHRAE President, Ben Cole, Region XII CTT RVC and Ricardo Esbri, President ASHRAE Puerto Rico Chapter, visited the Puerto Rico Regulation and Permits Administration with the purpose of presenting the ASHRAE 90.1 as the next Puerto Rico Energy

Code. We were received Ramon Ayala, Deputy Administrator. After lunch at Don Tello restaurant at Santurce s Plaza del Mercado, they proceeded in visiting the three mayor engineering firms in Puerto Rico. There were CMA Architects and Engineers, Jacobs Engineering and Caribbean Architects and Engineers. We finish up the day, including Nancy Burgett, with a dinner in honor of our VIP s with the Puerto Rico BOG. The Christmas Party was celebrated December 3, 2005 at Fernando Feliciano and Laura Torres lake property at Haciendas de Lago in Cidra. The Chapter had the pleasure of hosting contractor, suppliers and consulting engineers members, who were accompany by their families. The party had a jump house, popcorn and nachos with cheese for the kids, while the adults had live music and domino playing. Dinner was typical Puerto Rican food. January was the first month the Chapter hosted a combo technical session and seminar. The technical seminar was hosted during our regular monthly meeting the 19th, and was title Dust Collection, Why Collect the Dust & Application Based Solutions/Production Integration by Steven C. Barnkow y Michael D. Freeman from Plymovent Corporation. The seminar was hosted the 20 th, jointly with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos and by the Carolina Chapter of the CIAPR. It was presented to 60 persons.

Our February monthly meeting was hosted by the Chapter the 9 th. During this meeting we have the pleasure of receiving the visit of the President of the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos, Antonio Medina. The Chapter received on behalf of his Professional Group a donation to ASHRAE Research of $250. The technical session was titled Development of a Design Guideline for Pharmaceutical Facilities by Gabriel Lopez from Jacobs Engineering Puerto Rico. The meeting was attended by 24 persons. March 9, 2006 Chapter hosted its regular monthly meeting with a technical session Selection of Fire System, Booster and HVAC Pumps by Marcelino E. De Celis of Armstrong Pumps. This meeting was our second membership promotion night. The attendance was 35 persons. March 28, 2006 the Chapter jointly hosted with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos and Asociacion de Ingenieros Mecanicos de Puerto Rico. The seminar was title Combined Heat and Power: Alternative to Grid Distribution. The presenters were Dr. Jorge González and Luis H. Alva Solari from the company Caribbean Thermal Technologies, Inc. The seminar was attended by 15 persons. March 24 ASHRAE Puerto Rico Chapter President Ricoardo Esbri participated in the first meeting with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos and International Code Council Antilles Office with ARPE Administrator Luis Velez and Deputy Administrator

Ramon Ayala with the purpose of updating the Mechanical, Plumbing and Energy. April 2006 started with a seminar the 5 th. The seminar was jointly hosted with Instituto de Ingenieros Quimicos at the CIAPR Main Building and was attended by 25 persons. The seminar was titled Storage and Distribution of Purified Water for Pharmaceutical Facilities. The presenter was Jerry Caudil, Consulting Engineer. April 19, 2006 the Chapter jointly hosted with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos and Asociacion de Ingenieros Mecanicos de Puerto Rico the ASHRAE web cast Sustainability and the Building Environment for a group of 20 persons. The Chapter had the pleasure of visiting the Mechanical Contractor Association of Puerto Rico regular meeting of April 20, 2005. During this visit the ASHRAE Vice President Ronald Jarnaguin presented a speech to 40 attendees on the importance of professional societies in helping each other in common goals, such as adaptation of a new Energy Code for Puerto Rico. This meeting had the business presentation Estate Employee Compensation Insurance. April 21th ASHRAE Puerto Rico Chapter and the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos hosted a seminar for the employees of the Puerto Rico Regulations and Permit Administration and the Puerto Rico Energy Office related to ASHRAE 90.1. The presenter was ASHRAE Vice President Ronald Jarnaguin and had the visit of Ramon Ayala, Deputy Administrator ARPE. The second meeting related to the revision of the Mechanical,

Plumbing and Energy Code was done April 25 th. The group agreed to recommend the adaptation of the latest ICC Code Family in its entirely and the proceed in suggesting amendments. The ICC Energy Code adopts the ASHRAE 90.1-2004. April 27th the Chapter co-hosted with USGBC Caribbean Chapter the seminar "Specifying Green: Writing Sustainability into Construction Documents", presented by John B. Hertz, AIA, Dean, School of Architecture, University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras. Next day, the 28 th, the Chapter co-hosted with MCAPR and IIM del seminar The Practical Application of Open Protocol for Building Automation System (BAS). It had the attendance of 20 persons. The presenters were Patrick Winkelman and Pedro Carrión, P.E. May had four activities. The first one was a seminar titled VARIABLE SPEED APPLICATION IN CHILLERS, AIR HANDLING UNITS AND PUMPS. The chapter jointly hosted it with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos and Asociacion de Ingenieros Mecanicos de Puerto Rico. The attendance was 126 persons and was presented by Gustavo Gutiérrez, with the help of York/Johnson Controls de Puerto Rico. The 10 th the Chapter hosted with the Instituto de Ingenieros Mecanicos the seminar Commercial Dehumidification, with an attendance of 26 persons and was presented by Rich Orr from Munters Corp., Commercial Dehumidification Division. This same subject and instructor was presented in the technical session of the Chapter regular meeting the 11 th with an attendance of 34 persons.

This date had the theme research promotion night. The 25th the Chapter jointly hosted with the CAAPR and the AIA of PR the seminar "Fabric Duct System. The presenter was Mr. Cary Pinkalla, President and CEO of Ductsox Corporation. During May 30 th the Group evaluating the new Mechanical, Plumbing and Energy Code prepared the first draft of the letter or recommendation to be submitted to ARPE. June had had two activities, the 7 th and the 8th. The first date was a three (3) two (2) hour seminars titled Sustainable Design and LEED Accreditation for Engineers, Theory, Applications and Design of Condenser and Chilled Water Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Pumping Systems and Innovative Airside System Designed to Conform to ASHRAE 90.1 and Improve IAQ. The presenter was Evans J. Lizardos, PE, LEED Accredited Professional y ASHRAE Fellow. He is President of the Consulting Firm LEA, Inc. in Mineola, NY. He is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer. The attendance of this activity was 14 persons. Lizardos also presented the technical session LEED System in our regular and last regular monthly meeting of the Society year the 8 th of June, which had an attendance of 25 persons.
