Rainwater harvesting project Gamha Ray Chaudhary, Customer Services Dept., GVK MIAL Water plays a very important role in our life. Importance and essentiality of water, as well as its use in allied activity like plantations is well known. Of late, water scarcity is felt all around in Mumbai. In order to mitigate hardships and overcome financial strain in procuring water from external suppliers like tankers, the idea of providing rain water harvesting facility has been mooted. Rain water harvesting is a technique of collection and storage of rain water in surface (storage tanks) or underground storage tanks. The rainwater is collected from various hard surfaces such as rooftops and/or other manmade aboveground hard surfaces. I stay in Navi Mumbai and I had plans to implement this project in my building for a long time. Ultimately, when we had a water cut announced in our area, I decided to undertake the project using my own resources and completed it in less than two days! I sincerely urge everybody to try and implement rainwater harvesting techniques wherever possible so that this precious resource can be conserved and utilized. Thank you.
