This park is located along the tracks to the Grand Canyon, after they split from the main through line, so while the train station has many freight trains passing through, the only traffic on this line are the trains to and from the canyon. Our hosts were Norm & Mary Scherer and Al & Shirley Papera. Also attending were Len and Judy Jackson, Dick Mason & Rosemarie McBride, Tony and Linda Rose, Marvin and Carol Roskos, Bill and Marilyn Samuels, and Hank & Marie Ulveling. We had been told about a very special two steam engine train scheduled to run from San Diego to the Grand Canyon and back, being in Williams and the Grand Canyon during our rally. This train was run
as part of the Arizona Centennial celebration. We watched carefully, but never saw it head to the canyon. The following evening it was scheduled to return to Williams and we heard the steam whistle in the distance. As we watched, we could see smoke and steam in the distance slowly getting closer. Finally we could just make out a steam locomotive as it stopped at the maintenance facility about a half mile before reaching our campground. Rats! They had changed locomotives and taken the train into Williams using Diesel, and parked the steam ones for overnight maintenance. we never did see a steam train. Photos from Williams Al is doing his normal excellent job preparing eggs for our breakfast We are enjoying the breakfast in the lounge area we had exclusive use of for our whole visit. Some of our members toured Bearizona. They saw all varieties of animals in a natural habitat. Here a mama Bison nurses her young.
Other members took a trip to the Grand Canyon: Beautiful view! The train heading to and back from the Grand Canyon passed right by our campground. The closest we got to seeing the steam train was this telephoto view of the locomotive stopping at the maintenance facility about a half mile from camp.
We had our final night's dinner at the Pine Country Inn. As I was hemmed in, I asked Norm to take the pictures. Since that left him out, I used some digital magic and put him back in. Thanks to Shirley and Norm for their help supplying pictures. Future Events 2012 Rallies JUNE, JULY, AUGUST Normally we have no rallies during Summer Break. SEPTEMBER So far no one has expressed an interest in attending the Rocky Mountain Ramble Area Rally at Gillete, WY on September 11 through 16. Perhaps with the dropping fuel prices you may want to reconsider this rally. If you are interested, please contact one of the officers so we can arrange for any interested members to travel together. We need to plan a September rally. Please let Hank Ulveling know that you will be willing to host. OCTOBER 16, 17, 18, home on the 19th Rosemarie McBride & Dick Mason and Carol and Marv Roskos are hosting a rally at Distant Drums Campground near Camp Verde. Details will be made available later. NOVEMBER 12, 13, and 14 Annual meeting in Cottonwood hosted by our Officers DECEMBER We need a host for a December activity, perhaps a Christmas dinner? We still have September and December open. If you would be willing to host a rally or other SCRR event, please let Hank Ulveling know so he can include you in our schedule. Hank can be reached at 928-636-7413 or hmu38@commspeed.net.

In the June issue of Family Motor Coaching, on page 57, there is a ballot with more information about the contest. If you want to vote, you can fill the ballot out and send it in, OR you can go online, OR use email (addresses are on the ballot form).
