LANCHOU COMMUNITY RENEWAL Planner/ Executor Location Completion Taipei City Government Taipei, Taiwan 2015- Taipei City experienced exponential population growth between 1950 s and 1970 s; the average age of Taipei s buildings is 31.51 years, higher than the national average of 28.28. The extensive structural aging, cluttered cityscape and residential safety are issues facing the city. Nonetheless, the speed at which our urban renewal programs progresses is far slower than the city s structural aging. Lanzhou Community Lanzhou community is another old neighborhood in the city with dilapidated architectural environment and underprivileged residents. Due to complicated land ownership issues, there is no chance to the community to be redeveloped by private sectors. This is the first public-led urban regeneration project to actually improve the living environment of private residence. Because the city government owns partial land property at the site, after the reconstruction, public land resources will be returned as more public housing units and social facilities for the 31 neighborhood.
