Travel Pathway Benefits of Travel for Girls Girls develop self confidence Girls learn leadership skills by planning, earning money and venturing to new places Girls gain cultural insight, an appreciation for differences and similarities, and a broadened perspective Girls often consider travel as one of the most exciting aspects of being a Girl Scout
Travel Pathway- All events that occur outside the normal meeting time and place require GSWNY Travel Right requirements: Signed parent permission slips Appropriate girl to adult ratio as indicated in Volunteer Essentials for events and trips. Any adult fulfilling the ratio must be an approved, registered volunteer. Among these adults: One has completed Troop Essentials, Girl Scouting 101, and appropriate grade level training One qualifies as a Troop First Aider If you are arranging transportation, troop drivers are approved, registered volunteers Health forms, permission slips and a first aid kit must be brought along on the trip Leaders must review the Safety Activity Checkpoints for additional requirements Notification of Service Unit Manager In addition, some trips require additional paperwork and/or permission. All travel paperwork can be found at www.gswny.org.

Travel Pathway- Domestic Travel 9-12 Months Prior to Trip Planning Your Trip Coach Girls Through Charting their past travel experiences, choosing a travel location, determining the purpose of the trip & working out general trip details Leader Become familiar with GSWNY policies & procedures for troop travel 6-9 Months Prior to Trip Coach Girls Through Budget planning & planning for money-earning Leader Provide families with info on the trip, get trip & money-earning approval from your GS Council, recruit chaperones, 3-6 Months Prior to Trip Coach Girls Through Building the itinerary, preparing for safe travel and team building Leader Make final travel reservations, develop emergency plan, remind girls/families about permission slips and health forms
Travel Pathway- Domestic Travel 6-12 Weeks Prior to Trip Planning Your Trip Coach Girls Through Finalizing details, checking paperwork & confirming plans Leader Finalize itinerary& budget, complete all safety & risk management planning, inform families of final details, collect all paperwork, complete other council requirements 4-6 Weeks Prior to Trip Coach Girls Through Packing appropriately and being savvy traveler Leader Complete collection of paperwork & confirm all reservations
