Mystery Lunch, hosted by Nancy & Grady Vickers on Sunday, July 3, was well attended by 22 members, 11 Miata s & 2 OTM s (other than Miata). The caravan was led through nice country roads through Melbourne, Palm Bay, Fellsmere, & Vero Beach, ending at the Endless Summer Vineyard & Winery in Ft. Pierce, FL. The Endless Summer Vineyard & Winery is a small family owned sun & fun boutique winery that is the result of the blending of owner Gary Roberts love of history and native Muscadine and fruit wines. Gary gave our group a detailed overview of the winery. We learned about the history of Muscadine wine; that it is the oldest wine in the new world, first recorded being made at Fort Caroline (near today s Jacksonville), Florida in 1565 by the pirate captain John Hawkins, cousin of Sir Frances Drake. Endless Summer s goal is summed up in their motto: Good Wines, Good Vibes, and Good Times as well as their blending of the rich history of Muscadine wine and the tropical experience of their vineyard will produce a memorable winery experience. After the tour, we all enjoyed lunch under the big tent, consisting of gourmet burgers, hot dogs and beverages as well as the music from the band. After lunch, many of us participated in wine-tasting and purchases in the gift shop. Thanks to Nancy and Grady Vickers for their efforts in heading up this top-notch event.
The SCMC Drive-Out to Fishlips at the Port, hosted by Carolyn & Ray McDermott, Sunday, July 10, was attended by 32 members, 16 Miata's, and 3 OTM's (other than Miata's). The drive started from the parking lot of the Central Brevard Library in Cocoa, headed north along the Indian River on River Road, then continued north to SR 405 (Nasa Cswy), over the river, to Merritt Island. Continued on to North Tropical Trail, for a tree canopied drive, back to SR528, heading east to the Port. Fishlips was ready for this hungry and happy group, with plentiful drinks, delicious food, and a bird s eye view of the water, and many cruise ships. Thanks to our hosts, Carolyn & Ray, for this fun-filled, delicious, event.
From the President, For members that are new to SCMC, you might not know what a MYSTERY WEEKEND is. It is an overnight event that happens on a Saturday & Sunday, where the leaders are the only people that know where the destination is, and what the weekend trip will entail. The weekend cost usually includes, Saturday lunch, hotel for Saturday night, dinner & evening entertainment, and possibly a Sunday morning event. Sunday lunch is usually ala carte, and not included in the price of the weekend. The leaders, can be just one family, or can join up with another family to share the fun and responsibility in planning the Mystery Weekend event. The weekend event is usually held in the spring or fall, but not mandatory. Prices are for couples and individuals, and price is determined on costs incurred for the Saturday lunch, hotel, Saturday evening events, and Sunday morning event. A down payment is collected for attendees, and then balance due is paid before event date. SCMC does not have a Mystery Weekend scheduled for 2016. If you have a special place you believe the SCMC would enjoy, and are interested in leading this fun, mysterious weekend event, or would like more information, please contact Steve Saretsky at flsaretskyduo@hotmail.com. Friday, July 22, was another hot, sunny day, but 16 SCMC members joined Carolyn & Ray McDermott on a drive south taking A1A to Wabasso Island in the middle of the Indian River Lagoon to the Environment Learning Center where we were educated about the Indian River Lagoon, in an hour long talk and slide show by the well informed and entertaining, Heather Stapleton. Afterwards the group headed north on A1A to the New England Eatery & Pub for a delicious lunch. Thanks to Carolyn & Ray for organizing this fun and educational learning experience.
