CHINA Zhuhai Airshow & Hong Kong Optional 4 Day Extension to Beijing NOW FLYING CATHAY PACIFIC, CATHAY DRAGON & AIR CHINA INCLUDING AIRBUS A350-900! PROVISIONAL ITINERARY & GENERAL INFORMATION Friday, 2 nd Saturday, 10 th November The Zhuhai Airshow is China s equivalent to the well established and well-known Farnborough and Paris events. The difference being, is that you can expect an aviation surprise or two: in contrast to the UK and French events which can be disappointing, especially the flying display on the public days when some of the star attractions have either gone home or remain firmly on the ground. Not so in Zhuhai, where we enjoy 2 full Trade Days to ensure we get the full, undiluted airshow. In 2016 this event certainly produced some surprising aircraft! Like all hotels in and around Hampshire and Le Bourget, room rates increase dramatically over the show dates and unfortunately, in this regard, Zhuhai is no different. However, as we have already travelled a long way, we know you would prefer to stay in a hotel close to the venue. We start in Hong Kong with 2 full days to enjoy as you wish: spotting/photographing at Chep Lap Kok Airport and/or the famous attractions of downtown Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Flights are with Cathay Pacific Airlines from London s Gatwick Airport, on the airline s newly introduced Airbus A350-900 this will be a new type for many enthusiasts; we stay at superior, comfortable hotels at Hong Kong Airport and Zhuhai (and at Beijing Airport on the optional extension). Breakfast and evening meal in Zhuhai and Beijing is included in the tour price. Room only in Hong Kong. Transfers are by coach (see appropriate paragraph on page 6 General Information ); and we are accompanied at all times by one of our well-travelled and experienced Tour Managers. For those who are not limited by time or funds, we are also offering a 4-day extension to Beijing, flying with Cathay Dragon (A330-300) and Air China (Boeing 737-800): see pages 4 and 5. Both short and long tours are also perfect for non-aviation-minded persons to enjoy the various sightseeing, shopping and leisure time opportunities. PROVISIONAL ITINERARY (all times local) DAY 1: FRIDAY, 2 nd NOVEMBER Between 07:30 and 08:15 please check-in with Cathay Pacific Airlines in the South Terminal at London s Gatwick Airport. Then meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager and fellow enthusiasts who will be gathering in the immediate area. New Airbus A350-900s operate this flight. Due to security, long-haul passengers are being advised to check-in 3-hours prior to departure, i.e. 08:15. DAY 2: SATURDAY, 3 rd NOVEMBER Hong Kong Arrives: 06:55 After Immigration we collect our luggage from Baggage Reclaim proceed through Customs, and take the hotel s courtesy coach service to the nearby Novotel Citigate Hotel where we stay 3 nights on a room only basis. The hotel s facilities include 2 on-site restaurants, bar, wi-fi and currency exchange. We have requested rooms facing the airport (TBC). If you wish to occupy your room on arrival, there will be supplement to pay, otherwise rooms should be ready from 12:00, www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-6239- novotel-hong-kong-citygate/index.shtml The hotel is connected by an escalator to a large shopping mall with 80+ shops and numerous restaurants. It is only a 2-minutes walk to the Tung Chung transport interchange from where you can catch a bus to the HEACO hangars, located at the western (far) end of the southern runway, a popular spotting site, or take the train to Kowloon, 30 minutes away. A fabulous option is to take the train to Hong Kong Island and from there travel by tram up to the viewing area, shops and restaurants atop The Peak (see right). DAYS 3 & 4: SUNDAY, 4 th & MONDAY, 5 th NOVEMBER Two free days to enjoy as you wish: photographing and/or logging aircraft at the airport; taking the train to Kowloon in downtown Hong Kong; taking the tram railway up to the top of The Peak (as pictured above). Why not return to the airport and the Skydeck observation terrace on T2 which is open until 22:00. The hotel s courtesy shuttle coach runs every 15 minutes from 06:00 23:45 from Bus Bays 29/30 outside Terminal 2. There are a number of websites giving information on the various locations around the airport s perimeter from where it is possible to photograph and/or log aircraft movements. DAY 5: TUESDAY, 6 th NOVEMBER This morning we transfer by coach to Zhuhai, travelling on the newly opened crossing which consists of a series of bridges and tunnels across the Lingdingyang Channel connecting Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai. Check in to hotel (tba). DAYS 6 & 7: WEDNESDAY, 7 th - THURSDAY, 8th NOVEMBER Two full days at Airshow China 2018. www.airshow.com.cn/en/ Pictured right: the KJ-500 AEW version of the Shaanxi Y-9. GENERAL INFORMATION Payment for A deposit of 750.00 per person should accompany your Booking Form, with the balance due 10 weeks prior to the tour s departure. Please see your Booking Confirmation/Invoice for the exact date. Please note that a reminder of the payment date will not be sent. Tours Affected by World Events or Unforeseen/Unplanned Circumstances In an ever-changing world, events may occur immediately before or during a tour that result in cancellations or changes to the tour itinerary. For example, an increase in security may result in an approved visit being cancelled by the host, etc.. cannot be held responsible for any tour being cancelled, or itineraries affected, due to world events or circumstances beyond our control. Passports and Visas Citizens of the UK are required to be in possession of a Full UK Passport, which must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return. You may also refer to the World Travel Guide: www.worldtravelguide.net for general information on passports, visas and health requirements. British nationals do not require a visa to enter Hong Kong, however, they do for entry into Zhuhai and Beijing which are on Mainland China. Please contact your local Chinese Consulate; in the UK these are located in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. Or click on: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/china/entry-requirements. All other nationalities should enquire at their nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate. FCO Consular Advice The FCO s consular service is a major operation. Every hour of every day consular staff around the world are advising and helping British nationals. We suggest you visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice for upto-date passport, visa and security information on the destination you intend visiting. In addition, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) provides both a web site http://abta.com/gotravel and an Information Line, telephone: 0203 117 0599. This line is open between the hours 10:00 16:00, Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays). Coach Travel only use coaches chartered from reputable companies, with a driver. Where we have had to cancel a tour, due to the small number of bookings, we have looked at the possibility of renting a 9-18 seater mini-van, with our tour manager driving. However, without exception, the hiring of such a vehicle is illegal if any of the occupants make any payment towards the rental price, fuel and/or other expenses - known as for hire or reward. Any such rental, made without these facts being made known to the rental company at the time of booking, also invalidates all insurance covering the vehicle, contents and persons. The DVLA has also confirmed that any for hire or reward rental could breach the normal driving classification of a standard U.K. driver s license. Therefore, we do not undertake any tours using 9-18 seater mini-vans from a rental company; either with our tour manager, or a member of the group, driving. As baggage regulations can change with little warning, due to security requirements, you are strongly advised to contact the airline for the latest information nearer to the time of your departure. Meals Meals are not normally included in the price of our tours unless they are included within the room rate as we realise that not everyone wants three meals a day, especially in the USA where dinner tends to be quite large. Furthermore, hotel meals can be expensive and in general, we have found it is better to allow each person to decide for themselves. On this tour breakfast and the evening meal in Zhuhai and Beijing is included in the tour price. Room only in Hong Kong. Health Requirements There are currently no known mandatory or recommended precautions required for travel to Hong Kong or mainland China. However, we strongly recommend that you consult your local doctor or health centre for the latest information. Land Only Price For enthusiasts who would prefer to join the tour in Hong Kong (instead of flying from London with the main group), we will be pleased to quote a Land Only price.
