The Hazard Police Department During 2016, Officers with the Hazard Police Department organized or contributed the following: Patrolmen Eric Combs, John Holbrook and Ronnie Burke graduated from DOCJT Academy in February Patrolman Alex Hall graduated from DOCJT Academy in October Dispatchers Keith Gwin and JJ Montgomery graduated from Telecommunications Academy in February Black Gold Festival Motor Cycle Championship Stunt Show and Parade Provided security and traffic control for five fund raisers that involved 5K/10K runs. Site Security training with the Social Security Administration on Black Gold Boulevard Major James East and Captain Paul Campbell attended Site Security meeting with KCTCS Captain Paul Campbell and Patrolman John Holbrook visited RW Combs school and spoke to students about Child Safety and Active Shooter safety County wide pep rally at East Perry- October 7 th Homecoming Parade- October 13 th Halloween Ball At HCTCS- October 15 th Halloween Trick or Treat- October 31 st On Nov 29-30, Ptl Doug Ashley and Ptl Ronnie Burke assisted the US Marshalls Service in conducting Sexual Offender compliance checks. Officers worked Black Friday details at various businesses in the city. Major James East, Ptl. Doug Ashley, and Ptl. Steve Everidge delivered Thanksgiving dinners to different locations through the city, in conjunction with the Perry County Schools food drive. The annual Santa with a Badge toy drive began. During the month of November, persons that were issued parking violations had the option of paying their fines with a new toy or could still pay the monetary fines. Ptl. Doug Ashley, Ptl. Jessica Cornett, Ptl. John Holbrook, and Ptl. Elvin Hendrix assisted with traffic during the VFW's Veterans Day Service. Patrolman Doug Ashley and Patrolman Elvin Hendrix responded to several armed robberies on Christmas Day. Ricky Ashley was charged with those robberies. Hazard Police Department provided toys to several under privileged children in the city as part of the Santa with a Badge toy drive. These toys were donated by citizens. Officers attended Below 100 training at the Perry County Public Library. This training was provided by the Ky Office of Highway Safety and is directed at lowering on duty deaths in Law Enforcement to below 100 for a single year. It focuses on wearing your vest, lowering your speeds while driving/distracted driving, Wearing your seatbelts, What is important now, and becoming complacent while on duty. Major Jason Duff graduated from the Criminal Justice Executive Development class 19 in Richmond, KY. Major Duff is the first HPD officer to graduate from this program. Officers and Safety Officers assisted with the annual Christmas parade and other related events during the weekend. HPD officers provided Law Enforcement escort for the Hazard High School football team during the Class A State football championship. Jake Miller was named Officer of the year James Whitaker was named Supervisor of the year Miranda Deppenmeier was named Dispatcher of the year Our Tip411 has produced 158 tips for the year, 85 were drug related.several tips lead to arrests on active investigations
