NIGHT HAWL By Gobby Yan 404 Shatto Pl. Apt 207 Los Angeles, California 90020 424-270-4501 gobby1014@gmail.com

! 2. FADE IN: EXT. DOWNTOWN STREET - NIGHT (33), in her suit, is running on the sidewalk. Camera follows from behind. A few cars, less pedestrians, and some homeless people are in the street. Suddenly, she trips over and breaks her heel. All her belongings in her bag are scattered on the ground. She anxiously collects them back to her bag and looks around frequently at a black homeless guy, SAMUEL (40), near her. Samuel is sitting on the ground with a paper sign in front of him reads HAVE A NICE DAY! YOURS DEAF SAM. He holds up his begging bucket to Heather when she s picking her coins. Heather turns her head down to avoid the eye-contact with Samuel, leaving some of the coins on the ground. She forgets her wallet on the ground. She quickly stands up then realizes her broken heel. What the hell! She takes off both shoes and puts them in her bag, then pats the dust off her clothes. She paces back and forth to find her car, pressing the car remote key repeatedly. Then she notices the towing sign on the street. She dials the number of the towing company.

! 3. TOWING COMPANY (V.O) Thank you for your calling. We re currently unavailable to take your call. Our offices are now closed. (angry) Fuck. She hangs up the phone angrily and is alarmed the phone is almost out of battery. She looks at the cars passing by. A yellow cab is coming. She waves to the cab and cries. Hey! Taxi! Taxi! Ta She follows the cab passing her and stops. Shit! (CONT D) She takes out the phone and calls her friend, PATTY. (CONT D) Don t ask me anything. I m really not well. MICHAEL dumped me this morning for a bitch. They ve seen each other for couple of months right under my nose. I m such a fool. Then I had a fight with my biggest client. Meaning, I ll need to find another job and apartment tomorrow. And I broke my Jimmy Choo on its very first day! My phone is dying. My car got towed. I m in the downtown right now. No taxis. Full of homeless. I need your help. (MORE)

! 4. PATTY (V.O) I m sorry, sweetheart. Don t be sorry. Come and pick me up. I just wanna go home. PATTY (V.O) OK. Where exactly are you now? MICHAEL (V.O) Honey! Dinner is ready. Wait! Is that Michael? How can you do this to me? You re my best friend. PATTY (V.O) I m sorry. I gotta go. I ll explain. The phone is hung up by Patty. What! You fucking bitch! Only 2% of the battery left. She takes a deep breath and dials another number. Dad. How are you? I m in the downtown alone. Can you pick me up? DAD (V.O) Of course. Darling. Where are you now? (MORE)

! 5. The phone is dead. (relief) I m at Wall St and 5th. Thank you, Dad. (pause) Dad? Hello? No way. (CONT D) A HOMELESS GUY is yelling and approaching her. She trots along the street. She can sense that SOMEONE might be following her. The METRO STATION is in front of her. She quickly runs into it. INT. METRO STATION - NIGHT Heather looks through her bag for her wallet and peeps back. The HOMELESS GUY is following her into the station. She turns her head back rapidly and sneaks into the station. INT. METRO PLATFORM - NIGHT A METRO just arrived. She runs towards the metro and jumps onto it. The door closes. INT. METRO - NIGHT She looks out of the window but no one is on the platform. She looks at the metro map for a while then sits on a seat.

! 6. However, she doesn t know that SOMEONE is looking at her from the next compartment. She gets off the metro and heads out of the station. EXT. QUIET STREET - NIGHT The street is empty and dark. Heather is waiting for the green light at the crossing. She glimpses a FIGURE following. She crosses over the street before the light changing green. She speeds up her steps. The GUY also speeds up following. She turns back, applies the pepper-spray to his eyes when he almost catches her. (scared) Leave me alone! You fucker! The GUY, crying, covers his eyes and jumps back. Ah Ah Ah THE GUY He throws something in front of Heather. Heather recognizes it s her wallet. She picks it up, and opens it. Her ID, all the cards and cash are all in there. She looks closely to the guy. It s SAMUEL, the DEAF SAM. Samuel suffers great pain in his eyes. Heather realizes something, then turns back and runs away.

! 7. FADE TO: BLACK FADE IN: EXT. QUIET STREET - NIGHT Samuel lies on the ground, and Heather pours water onto Samuel s eyes gently. FADE TO: BLACK THE END
