Thank you! Thank you! Grade 5/6 students, staff and accompanying parents arrived safely home from excursion on Friday evening after an incredible five-day interstate trip to Sydney and Canberra. Thank you to Mrs McCulloch for giving us the opportunity to participate in this amazing learning experience. Thank you to Jodi (MTA Travel) for assisting us with every detail regarding planning and booking the excursion. Thanks also to all the Parents and Friends of St Brigid s Catholic School for supporting us financially through fundraising. Thank you to our outstanding Coach Driver, Gary, for spending the week with us in Canberra and sharing his knowledge and jokes with us. Thank you to all who spoke to us at the various places we visited and for all the amazing staff for accommodating us so well at Canberra Park Resort. Thank you to all the Staff and Parent Volunteers who came on camp; Rachel, Helen, Kellie, Kathy, Kristina, Adrian, Michael and Michael for taking time away from work and their families to accompany us on our trip. And finally THANK YOU to all the Grade 5/6 Students for their outstanding behaviour and interest in learning. You were all a credit to your families and proudly represented our school values. Regardless of Football code, all students from Kinder to Grade 6 are invited to wear their Footy colours to school for the day. Please bring a gold coin donation to raise money for the Ronald McDonald Charity. GRADE 3 HAGLEY CAMP REMINDER Grade 3 Hagley Camp money is due to the office by Friday 17 th November. SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM 2017 Congratulations to Kalin and Harry and the Stella Maris students on making their First Eucharist last Sunday morning. ST BRIGID S ATHLETICS CARNIVAL - SAVE THE DATE The St Brigid s Athletics Carnival will be held in Term 4 on Friday 10 th November, with our back up date being Friday 17 th November. The Athletics Carnival is for all students from Kinder to Grade 6. Further details will be shared in the first week of Term 4. WOOLWORTHS EARN AND LEARN As you know, our school has been participating in Woolworths Earn & Learn. The program has now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We're now at the important stage of the program where the Sticker Sheets are collected and lodged to claim our Earn & Learn points. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week, please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Sticker Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they maybe stuck on the fridge! Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support!
SUMMER UNIFORM CHANGE OVER Due to the continuing cold and unsettled weather our change over from Winter to Summer uniform will be in Term 4 Week 3 Monday 30 th October. During the first 2 weeks of Term 4 Children are still to wear their winter uniforms. Hats are compulsory throughout all of Term 4. TERM 4 Please note the first day of Term 4 is Tuesday 17 th October. Warm regards Annette MILO in2cricket is the national grass root program for Cricket in Australia, with the aim of introducing kids aged 5-8 to our great Australian game. It provides children with an opportunity to develop fundamental movement skills, meet new friends and have fun with their whole family in a safe and interactive environment. There are multiple programs running in your local community and by registering at one of them, not only will you enjoy some great cricket fun but every registered child receives a MILO in2cricket Participant Pack, which includes a bat, ball, t-shirt, bucket hat, backpack, drink bottle and other goodies! They will look just like their Aussie Cricket heroes! MILO T20 Blast MILO T20 Blast is a fun, safe, social and action packed Cricket program for boys and girls aged 7-11 who have basic cricket skills. The program involves modified games of cricket, where each child gets an equal turn at batting, bowling and fielding. By registering for MILO T20 Blast everyone will be part of the fun and excitement while also developing new skills, in addition all kids will receive a MILO T20 Blast Participant Pack, which includes a playing shirt, Hobart Hurricanes cap, bag and more! KINSHIP WALK Several students from St Brigid s participated in the Kinship walk hosted by Table Cape Primary School Thursday, 21 st September 2017. Students listened to a Welcome to Country by Guy Grey and heard about the Wynyard School Community Hub and their partnership with the Smith Family. Students then followed the Kinship walk to Wynyard High School hanging flags along the fence line with personal messages of friendship and connection. They planted a tree around the friendship circle and enjoyed an aboriginal dance performance by Craig Everett and sons.

G5/6 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSON TO CANBERRA 2017 Our Itinerary: Day 1 Sydney Harbour Beach/On the Rocks/Opera House/Mary MacKillop Place Monday 18 th September We departed school by bus at 6.30am and travelled to the Launceston Airport where we met the rest of the group. Our flight was direct to Sydney. At the Sydney Airport we were met by our Coach Driver, Gary, who quickly loaded our luggage onto the bus and drove us to Circular Quay for lunch. After lunch, we spent some time exploring the area around Sydney Opera House. We then boarded the bus and drove across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to North Sydney where we stopped for a tour of Mary Mackillop Place. We visited the Chapel and Museum before boarding our coach and heading to Canberra. Four hours later, we arrived at our accommodation, Canberra Park Resort where we had a delicious dinner, desserts and settled into our comfortable cabins.
G5/6 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSON TO CANBERRA 2017 Day 2 Mt Ainsley/Embassy/National Portrait Gallery/Australian Institute of Sport/National Museum of Australia Tuesday 19 th September After a scrumptious buffet breakfast we headed to Mt Ainslie for some magnificent panoramic views of Canberra. We also drove along Embassy Drive to view the many Foreign Embassies. Our next stop was the National Portrait Gallery where we were taken on a guided tour. We stopped and discussed features of various portraits and then attempted drawing our own portraits. After lunch we headed to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for a guided tour of the sporting facilities and then had a turn in the Sportex interactive sports hall. Next we headed to the National Museum where we enjoyed a self-guided tour. Later that night we headed back to the AIS for a swim in the pool.
G5/6 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSON TO CANBERRA 2017 Day 3 National Zoo and Aquarium/Australian War Memorial/Royal Australian Mint/AMF BELCONNEN Wednesday 20 th September - Following breakfast we headed past the Governor-General s House to the National Zoo and Aquarium. One of the highlights at the zoo was seeing the newest members, the baby meerkats. After lunch we headed to the Australian War Memorial where we spent a few hours exploring the many significant war memorabilia and artifacts. Later that afternoon we visited the Royal Australian Mint where we saw the robots making coins. Some students even made their own commemorative coin. After dinner we headed to the AMF ten-pin bowling for a game with our friends.
G5/6 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSON TO CANBERRA 2017 Day 4 Cycle Canberra/National Gallery/Questacon/Talent Show Thursday 21 st September - After a hearty breakfast this morning we headed off to Lake Burley Griffin for an hour cycle around the scenic lake. We then headed to the National Gallery for a guided tour looking at some famous artworks such as Monet s Water-lillies and Jackson Pollack s Blue Poles. After lunch we visited Questacon where we explored the science and technology centre. As this was our final night, we celebrated with a talent show after dinner.
G5/6 EDUCATIONAL EXCURSON TO CANBERRA 2017 Day 5 Old Parliament House/Electoral Education Centre/Parliament House/Museum of Australian Democracy Friday 22 nd September Once we had loaded the coach we travelled to Old Parliament House for the Electoral Education Centre. Here we learnt about the electoral system and participated in a mock election. Next we visited Parliament House for a guided tour of the House of Representatives and the Senate. After lunch we headed back to Old Parliament House for a tour of the Museum of Australian Democracy. Students had fun role-playing in the historic chamber. At 5pm we boarded our flight in Canberra and stopped briefly in Melbourne. We were fortunate to meet Instereo members at the gate lounge before boarding our flight home Launceston Airport.
