HOST CITY, JEJU ISLAND Jeju Island is the premier tourist destination in Korea. Scenic beaches, waterfalls, cliffs, and caves lie in harmony, and the mild weather makes Jeju Island an even more ideal place for vacation. Mt. Halla in Jeju has flora and fauna of both temperate and tropical varieties. Located at the center of Northeast Asia, Jeju is connecting the continent and the Pacific Ocean. Such geographical feature makes Jeju an optimal place for the summit diplomacy. Since the 1990 s, Jeju has been highlighted as playing an important diplomatic role for peace and prosperity of the Northeast Asia. (http://english.tour2jeju.net/main/) UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites In June 2007, the volcanic island and lava tube cave systems, as well as the fortress like Seongsan Ilchulbong tuff cone rising out of the ocean were designated as UNESCO World Natural Heritage Sites for natural beauty and geographical value. Jeju Island is not only Korea s most prestigious destination and top honeymoon location but the venue for several political joint summit talks and other major international meetings. (http://jejuwnh.jeju.go.kr/) Exciting Activities and Food You can enjoy hk hiking, bk bike riding, paragliding, ld scuba diving, windsurfing, hunting, horseback riding, swimming in the ocean, and sightseeing boat trips in Jeju. Jeju has a wide variety of local fruits and foods, such as delicious Jeju tangerines, saltwater fish (Okdom) stews, grilled saltwater fishes with seasoning, rice porridges with abalone, pheasant dishes and hair tail fish soups. Jeju keeps changing itself into an International Free City, and becomes an island of harmony under the wave of technology while maintaining its ecological treasures. Weather Information Jeju has a mild subtropical climate with less annual range and is famous for beautiful landscape in harmony with mountains and sea and many tourist attractions. The temperature for the hottest summer months averages no more than 34.7 and no less than 1.5 for winter. The annual average temperature reaches 11.7. The annual temperature of Jeju is relatively low and mild, compared with those of other places at the same latitude of the earth. This is due to the cold winter seasons, which is the influence of continental climate, and also by summers that do not become too hot due to the cool oceanic currents. The annual temperatures of Jeju City and Seogwipo City for the last 30 years are reported to be 15.2 and 15.9 respectively. 5
