Sat., Aug., 15 Arrival Zurich - Mürren Upon arrival at Zurich International Airport, meet your tour guide who will accompany you throughout. Tour the city and walk through the cobblestoned lanes of the Old City, visit the Grossmunster Cathedral, where Huldrych Zwingli began the Swiss Reformation. Admire stunning stained glass windows by Marc Chagall of the Fraumuenster Abbey and view St. Peter's Church boasting the largest clock face in Europe. Journey to two important landmarks of the Swiss Reformation, near the Grossmunster Abbey and Limmat River. The first one commemorates the ordeal of a Christian Anabaptist and the second one is a Mennonite Reformation rebaptism site. In the afternoon, board the coach for a magnificent drive along the Alps to Mürren for overnight. Sun., Aug., 16 Mürren, Jungfraujoch Leisure time in Murren. Optional excursion (for additional cost): The Jungfraujoch top of Europe is the highlight of any Swiss journey. The highest railway station in Europe is located 11,000+ feet above sea level. Gain access to a high-alpine wonderland of ice, snow and rock, admirable from the viewing platforms on the Aletsch Glacier or in the Ice Palace. The railway journey is an experience which leads through the Eiger and Monch mountains. At the Eismeer and the Eiger intermediate stations you can enjoy the wonderful and impressing panorama. B Mon, Aug. 17 Mürren - Colmar/France - Triberg Following breakfast, our journey takes us to France where we drive through the Alsace to Colmar. The town is situated on the Alsatian Wine Route and is considered to be the "capital of Alsatian wine. Explore the well-preserved old town on a brief tour, have lunch (on your own) and some free time before departing for Triberg in the Black Forest. Overnight in Triberg. B Tue., Aug. 18 Black Forest Today, travel through the storybook magical Black Forest famous for its Black Forest maids, Black Forest farms, Black Forest gateau, Bollenhut hats, and cuckoo clocks. In Titsee-Neustadt you will have the opportunity to taste the famous Black Forest cake, do some souvenir shopping and have lunch (on your own). Return to Triberg and visit the world's largest cuckoo clock. Another highlight will be the highest waterfalls in Germany. Overnight in Triberg. B Wed., Aug. 19 Triberg - Oberammergau area This morning, drive south through the Black Forest to Schaffhausen/Switzerland to view the Rhine Falls (Rheinfall), Europe's largest waterfalls. Then onward along the foothills of the Alps through breathtaking scenery to the Lake of Constance, Germany s largest lake. Here, stop for lunch (on your own) and a short visit to Birnau, a pilgrimage church with a spectacular view over the lake and the Alps in the background. Then, continue on to the Oberammergau area for overnight. B, D Thu, Aug. 20 Passion Play Oberammergau World-renowned, the quaint Bavarian town of Oberammergau is the site of the extravagant Oberammergau Passion Play performed only once every ten years and involving almost all residents of the village. Take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience! Enjoy leisure time this morning, and beginning in the afternoon attend the Play which has a running time of approx. five hours with a three-hour intermission allowing time for dinner. Overnight will be in Oberammergau. B, D Fri., Aug. 21 Bavarian Castles - Rothenburg This morning, tour Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, and Linderhof Castles. The elaborate Neuschwanstein Castle is surely the crown jewel of Bavaria Castles. Hohenschwangau is formerly the summer residence for the family of mad King Ludwig II. Lastly we will visit Linderhof Castle one of Mad King Ludwig s fantasy castles with its fabulous 105 foot fountain. After lunch (on your own), travel the Romantic Road past quaint towns and villages to Rothenburg o.d. Tauber for overnight. B Sat., Aug. 22 Rothenburg Take a glimpse into the middle-ages at perhaps the most famous town on the Romantik Road. Rothenburg is a nearly intact medieval walled-city without a single modern building within. Enjoy a tour of the city highlighting St. Jakob s Church with the famous altar carving by Tilman Riemenschneider. You will have leisure time to stroll the cobblestone streets with their wonderful variety of shops. (Kathe Wolfahrt s year-round Christmas Village is a must!) Walk along the medieval walls that encircle the town, or just relax and enjoy Rothenburg s quaint beauty. Overnight in Rothenburg. B Option: Excursion to Schwandorf Sun, Aug. 23 Rothenburg - Heidelberg Rhine River Valley This morning, drive to Rüdesheim area, our final destination. On the way, we stop in Heidelberg, a gorgeous town on the Neckar River where romanticism is both past and present. A guided walking tour will include the Old Town, the famous Stone Bridge over the Neckar River, the Heidelberg Castle (where the Heidelberg Confession
was written in 1653), the Castle Church, German Apothecary Museum, and the Church of the Holy Ghost. In the afternoon, we continue on and check-in to the hotel for two overnights in the Rudesheim area. B Mon., Aug. 24 Rhine River cruise, Kloster Eberbach Following breakfast, board a boat and relax on a wonderful Rhine River cruise along one of the most picturesque stretches of this majestic waterway. Sail past magnificent castles and the famous Loreley rock. Lunch will be served on board for an additional cost. In the afternoon, we tour and visit Eberbach Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery. On account of its Romanesque and early Gothic buildings it is considered one of the most significant heritage sites in Germany. Air Transportation: Airfare is not included in the tour arrangements. Raptim is pleased to assist with flight arrangements; air schedules and pricing will be available 11 months prior to travel and communicated to tour guests. The land tour begins at the Zurich Airport on the morning of August 15, 2020. The tour will conclude at the Frankfurt International Airport on the morning of August 25, 2020. Additional information regarding timing will be communicated closer to the time of travel. Seat Assignments: In the event Raptim provides group air transportation, specific seat assignments as requested by tour members will be submitted to the airline. Due to the nature of group travel, the airline will make all seat assignments, as a result, Raptim cannot guarantee all requests will be honored. Any changes should be requested at check-in by the traveler. Please advise your travel consultant of any special seating needs due to health or mobility, or note under Airline Seat Request when registering. Accommodations: Based on two or more persons sharing a room in accommodations listed in itinerary, or similar. Single rooms are subject to availability at an additional charge.
