Camp Colorado Colorado s Most Complete Campground Guide 2 018 The Official FREE Publication of the Colorado Campground & Lodging Owners Association CampColorado.com

Camp Colorado wants you to enjoy your camping vacation. A few tips will go a long way toward ensuring an exceptional experience. Altitude Sickness & Sun Protection A Rocky Mountain High has to do with breathtaking scenery at incredibly high elevations which can truly and seriously take your breath away. Altitude sickness is another aspect of a Rocky Mountain High, and without proper considerations, it can negatively impact your vacation. Our Camp Colorado member listings include park altitudes to help you determine how much you might need to acclimate. Consider these tips to minimize any adverse effects: Be sure to drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and strenuous exercise the first few days of your visit. Arrive a day, two or three early to give yourself some time to adapt, especially if you plan to be hiking and climbing. You can find more information online at AltitudeSicknessCure.com Another aspect is the sun. Prepare to cover up or use some sort of sun block. At these heights, with thinner air, you ll be grateful you protected yourself. Marijuana Colorado legalized the recreational use and sale of marijuana, yet that doesn t make it allowed everywhere. Before assuming anything, contact the campground s office to learn of their policy. Some are very strict, while others treat it similar to smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol. Turn to CampColorado.com Our website is full of useful information to help plan your trip. Search our site to find full information on: Your desired camping accommodations: RV site, tent site, or other types of lodging options Refilling propane Dumping your holding tanks Adding fresh water to your reserve tank Any of the above by month, so the results show only those that apply to your trip. Colorado Is Open for Camping All Year Go ahead! Take in the spring, autumn and winter festivals, the less crowded trails, and some snowy adventures like snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and even downhill skiing. Many Colorado campgrounds are open all year, with perhaps limited services yet still catering to the needs of those who travel in the off-seasons. Off-season camping offers a long list of tremendous experiential variations. Find more information at CampColorado.com/blog Planning Resources In addition to CampColorado.com, we recommend the following resources. Turn to Colorado.com for a comprehensive list of festivals, events, historic areas, itineraries, and community insight. Turn to GoCampingAmerica.com to find campgrounds in the states that lead to your Colorful Colorado vacation! You can search for parks with a full range of tools and filters, including interactive maps. Find a Dealership Colorado has 39 RV dealerships from one corner of the state to the other. Turn to the National RV Dealers Association to find an RV dealership in your local area. Most offer new, aftermarket, and rental equipment, and many provide maintenance service.

Road Conditions Towing a trailer or driving a motorhome on steep mountain roads requires being prepared for the unexpected. Most of Colorado is rural, and much of it is mountainous and at high elevations. Roads may be closed due to wind, hail, snow, ice, accidents, and of course construction. You can encounter snow nearly any month of the year. Plan your trip accordingly. Call 511 (out of state, call 303-639-1111) or visit www.cotrip.org for current road conditions. Always Call 911 for Medical or Safety Emergencies Wildfires Wildfires can occur and spread quickly. Be alert! Have an escape plan. Campfires aren t necessarily a given in Colorado. Dry conditions and strong winds can lead to burn bans. These bans are set by local jurisdictions of authority. Please contact the campground office to know the current conditions before lighting your campfire. An average of 1.2 million acres of U.S. woodlands burn every year, and more than 4 out of every 5 wildfires are caused by people.
